  • I think Angela's version is warmer and richer than that of Callas. I LOVE HER - she is STUNNING. Her Voice is beautiful! And yes, I agree that she is gorgeous on stage.

    Barbara/NYC

  • dear sopranos of the world: STOP SINGING CARMEN! it sounds beautiful but it's not your voice type, also your timbre is too light for Carmen, Carmen is a gypsy, her voice must be dark and a little heavy. always a pleasure to hear Gheorghiu singing, but not in Carmen. sorry but it's not OK.

  • @parodycreator25 methinks you non compre !

  • @chrisjones98 me thinks you can't type proper english :P LOL I'm joking, sorry I can't give a proper reply, can you please re-type your message? :D

  • @parodycreator25 You are saying things that do not not need to be said, just listen, like or don't like ! mucho love cj

  • @chrisjones98 Bizet had a reason to compose Carmen for a Mezzo-soprano, don't you think? besides, Bizet composed a soprano role, Micaëla, with an utterly beautiful Cavatina, What I'm saying is that sopranos have enough repertoire, they don't need to steal the Mezzo-Soprano's arias.

  • @parodycreator25 Beautiful songs are ment to be sang. It is everybodys right. I´m not going to put my singing on YouTube, don´t worry.

  • @MsFinnishgal but, they have more than enough repertoire, they are stealing the mezzo's repertoire, but Mezzos can't do that, because people rage and post comments like: "it's so heavy, it's so dark" and stuff like that. everybody has a voice type and timbre for a reason, and composers knew that, Bizet made Carmen a Mezzo because gypsies usually have dark, smooth and a little heavy voices, sopranos are too light to make a real Carmen.

  • @parodycreator25 I understand what you mean. All songs are not made for everyone.

My singing teacher gave me this song to practise, because this is suitable for my singing voice.

  • @MsFinnishgal I understand they use this for practice, for example this Habanera (l'amour est un oiseaux rebelle) is perfect for practicing the descendant D minor scale, and the jump from D minor to G major, for practicing and small audiences is perfect, because you can practice the musicality of all songs, but making commercial recordings and for big audiences or a full opera it's not OK and Bizet would not approve it. have a nice day! :D

  • @parodycreator25 It would be very interesting to know something about your singing career! :) Thank you for chatting with me. I appreciate it. Have a nice weekend! :)

  • @MsFinnishgal I'm a dramatic tenor, so there is not much for me to sing, I could sing spinto roles but I don't want to ruin permanently my voice, therefore, I'm in the orchestra pit, I'm a flutist :D

  • thumbs up if you 1st heard this song while watching Courage the cowardly dog

  • up

  • you know, i don't like much opera, but this is beautiful. idk, i guess all the strung out high notes don't set with me to well

  • ahhh shes a human rose

  • Please tell me, if someone sings this song in German here in Youtube. I only found French versions.

  • @MsFinnishgal because Carmen is a french opera, there aren't any other versions of this, only french. It's actually a blasphemy to translate opera arias to other languages. sorry to tell you this, but you will never find German versions of this, but the words can be found in German. (no singing)

  • @parodycreator25 Hello again! I´m going to sing this in French after all, so I won´t ruin it. I was given notes with both languages, and I thought I should sing it in German. Fortunately not!

  • @MsFinnishgal also, the words lose its original sense in the translation, So it's better to sing it in the original language, if you want German, Mozart and Wagner, have beautiful arias in German, from Die Zauberflöte and Die Wallkure (or something like that) specially.

  • im shocked at how torcherous this is, im not saying its bad, its amazing. its just when i started listening to opera i couldnt stand to listen to anything else, if it wasnt opera it was bullshit, i now cant stand listening to rock metal or anything else, it all gives me a headache. now

  • Estoy aqui por Hey Arnold!

  • 2:07 what a big hole >:o

    (you`ve just got trolled)

  • If you like this one - you should check out the live version - even more spectacular in my opinion

    "Angela GHEORGHIU - Habanera - Carmen - Bizet "

  • I don't understand a thing but still this is the best!!!

  • I love her confidence. She is very photogenic. While her voice is amazing, her demeanor is surely part of her success too.

  • i dont want to stop listening

  • Her voice is beautiful.

  • i can't see her tongue for most of it

  • I'm a romanian boy and I just finished studying at the same school that Angela Gheorghiu studied when she was a little girl. I'm proud because of this! Thumbs up for Angela Gheorghiu , a big star from ROMANIA!

  • ...i wish i have a voice like her...

  • the first time i heard this song was in arnold

  • @dieazo121 same =D loool

  • @dieazo121 Hey Arnold? if so, same here! :D

  • @dieazo121 Courage the Cowardly Dog also

  • @dieazo121 me too, is cute :D

  • Beautiful woman with beautiful voice <3

  • ANGEL!!!

  • @Gurgi1990 Thankyou! The lyrics made me love it more :D

  • @thelolkable If you want complete lyrics as well as the context, there are several performances here that are subtitled and are as it is performed in opera rather than in concert like here. It comes from opera Carmen and the character is a gypsy who is not very constant: she falls in and out of love quickly. E.g. here with English subtitles: /watch?v=Yb3y6k2lzJQ

  • damn... this, is talent!

  • Simply Wonderful...........

  • Hey Arnold helped me be more sophisticated

  • High five to the other teenagers watching this!

  • @CookieVeggieMonster

    High Ten :D

  • @CookieVeggieMonster I'm a teenager and I say shut the hell up. You wouldn't even be watching this video if you hadn't seen it on Family Guy and wanted to seem more intellectual just for listening to this song more.

  • Most beautifull thing ever ... lets just hope more people learn true culture and stop listening to 1 month shit from bieber or gaga ... cheers!

  • who found hard time to find it after he heard it been 2 weeks for me

  • When it comes to opera I'm a dunce, although I've been exposed to it since I was a little boy. But I grew up devoted to the Rolling Stones and Janis Joplin. But beauty is beauty and taste is individual. Angela Gheorghiu is magnificent and the Habenera resonates in a way even Bizet probably never anticipated, People shut their minds to the diversity of the arts because they fear their own ignorance. I'm lucky: I can love Reba McIntire and Pavorotti equally. And I still think Angie is superb.

  • I love this sooo much! I wish I understood it...

  • @thelolkable That's the beauty of opera the music is so powerful you don't need to know the language. but my favorite line translates to "Love is a gypsy's child, it has never ever recognized law. If you love me not then I love you; if you love me then you best beware.

  • ive loved opera since i was 5 and know iam 17 and still loving it <3

  • I'm having the hardest time thinking of a beautiful opera song and what it's called, i know how it goes in my head but i dont know the fucking name, so if someone could suggest a few famous opera songs then please LET ME KNOW!!!

  • @ThisIsBullFuck Why not just watch full operas? Pick something very popular like Carmen (this is where this aria is from) which is an opera that has many beautiful very recognizable melodies or La Traviata or Rigoletto or L'Elisir d'amore" or Il Barbiere di Sevilla and just search for scenes here. If you want to start with famous arias you could try Toreodor song also from Carmen; or E' lucevan le stelle, La donna e' mobile, Brindisi from La Traviata. Too many to list.

  • i love it!!!

  • This is beautiful

  • replay.replay.replay.

    Spectacular.

  • J'aime beaucoup ! Je suis fiere qu'une roumaine chante ça ! C'est merveilleux !

  • I love this song and this opera, leave it to the French to make an opera about a prostitute and make it so beautiful it's a cultural icon. Je l'adore tellement!

  • wish I could be IN the video with her!!! would eat her UP!!!

  • Is she the best ever? I love her phrasing, she never sounds plummy like the ones who pretend to be posh. Angela always sounds so natural and perfect. True genius...

  • goosebumps

  • oh how beutiful it makes me cry tears of joy.

  • Bravo!

  • my o my nobody sings this better

  • @bellvilbump You think so? I personally prefer mezzo sopranos singing this given as this is a mezzo soprano role. My favorites from today's singers for Carmen would be Elina Garanca and Rinat Shaham. Of course, I realize that tastes differ.

  • @jewelmarkess Well sopranos need something to sing other than queen of the night.

  • @666NedFlanders LOL, Gheorghiu is a lyric soprano so she can't sing Queen of the Night. But... there are many beautiful arias/great roles for sopranos, much more than for mezzo sopranos. Juiliette, Tosca, Cio Cio San, Mimi, etc. Normally it's sopranos who are the heroines.

  • 144 need prayers and personality transplants, can you conceive of depriving oneself of this glorious music?

  • how do you say her last name?

  • @lilmama0298 G.H.E.O.R.G.H.I.U.

  • @lilmama0298 @MrSamurai47 Gheorghiu - it is like Georg + iu ... Georg (pronounced like in German Georg) . You don't actually pronounce the "h". It is only there to help the pronunciation. If it were written "Georgiu" it would be pronounced like Djordjiu (George + iu, George pronounced like in English)

She's Romanian. Gheorghiu is a common name in Romania.

  • hey arnold brought me here
