whats the pt of just jamming the head into the tree until the head stalls? try a forward and back with the tracks lowering the head a little with each pass.
Hard maple makes good firewood. I have some glowing in my wood stove right now.

Why don't cut down to firewood and sell it? Or leave it besides the road some folks will come and be glad to pick it up to save on heating costs....
