I just covered the same route on Google Maps, and sentiment aside, it looks a lot more prosperous now than in '67.The bus stop where the redhead is is grafittied and dirty,it certainly seems more vibrant and clean now. That was the best year for music though...the "summer of Love".
@themusicmatterz Me too! I'd check out all the vintage cars driving around and get myself a .45cent hod dog with everything on it, also a big chocolate milkshake.
@1:39 it looks like a free press style 'zine being handed out by real people. I saw that happen on Haight Ashbury in '67 as well. Whatever those 'zines were called then, "the Oracle...the Eye..." you'd always see someone personally handing it to you. Service certainly has changed since then.
I live right in the area and I see how where Crescent Heights Blvd. used to have a lot and building between the Lytton Savings and the corner where Schwabs used to be (then Virgin Megastore, now a furniture store). I wondered why that intersection had those two streets that curved off of Sunset and onto Sunset and they didn't have them anywhere else.
Oh, maaan. This makes me feel my age. I'm a screenwriter researching location footage and I had to get this RIGHT (not rely on my old memory). 45 yrs ago I got caught ditching school w/ my best friend because ABC local news panned a shot of Pandoras Box where I was selling Free Press .Poor Gail was sitting against the wall..plain as day. It airred & our parents had seen it. before we got home. Bummer, but they got over it :) THANKS to "dantanasgirl" for the heads up on the availability.

I didnt see Jim!... Morrison must have been sleeping one off since it appears to be mid day. Love the footage, I'm 52 and grew up in Northeast LA. The only time my folks would take me to Hollywood was for the Christmas Parade, but this footage still brings back great memories of growing up in LA in the 60's. Thanks so much.
I love the way you Yanks set your towns and cities out properly from the get-go. Good wide, straight roads with plenty of parking. Sunshine, palm trees, hot women, the beach- jesus you guys know how to live.
Maybe I idealize the 50's and 60's too much (being born in 66) But the look of the cars, people and architecture and knowing the incredible music scene that was happening at that time really makes for a surreal/magical video!
@MattTheSaiyan - I agree. There's a slow steady progression and when it slows to a brief stop, it's almost surrendiptous that the girl is in the center of the frame. At last someone emerges from the scenery and acknowledges that you're watching them.
Amazing. I share a fascination with many about the long-gone Crescent Heights/Pandora's Box area. Starting at 1:18, this shows the area post-riot and in advanced decay. Pandora's Box's area is like a war zone - torn up and barren with people hanging out in the wreckage. The girl hawking newspapers and the guy on the bench nodding off, wow. And just who is Bob Candee?
@tsinsomnia I never knew that Pandora's Box was built on a small island which would now be in the middle of Crescent Heights on the south side of Sunset. Very cool!
@jolieblondeLA Do you realize how many of us miss 'em! I think I took the very last photo of one about 8 years ago myself that ended up being taken down soon enough.
Classic. Someone should add Buffalo Springfield's For What It's Worth as the soundtrack to this piece. Great quality - has it been sitting in a vault all these years?
@dantanasgirl You definitely tapped into something here that has resonated with a lot of people. Btw, I was looking at some memorabilia of extinct restaurants, clubs, & bars of L.A., & I came across pictures of The Cake, the 60s female group, taken outside Pandora's Box--first time that I ever heard of them. I checked out some of their vids on YT. The late Jeanette Jacobs caught my eye right away. I liked her style on stage & in general. I have a feeling that you might have been aware of them.
For us who never had a chance to live through these days...huge thank you! The 60's hippie chick near the end is kind of hot...

At 2:08 what that an island on the south side of Sunset at Crescent Heights? The intersection looks like it had an island w/buildings on it.
