Believe it or not the technique was effective and in fact the Romans did the same thing when they occupied Britain (around 1st century AD) by building Hadrian's Wall right along the Scottish border to keep the Scottish Celts out.

well after the ming dynasty ended there were no need to maintain the wall. so the wall crumble from earthquake and erosion. if we were to restore it it will cost like at least 5% of the military budget. lol

I was married to a Chinese girl 1994 to 2003. Whilst I agree the great wall ' is part of the landscape' . it does not make it right or correct.

In the UK , we have a few Coal mines that are now tourist attractions , we also have tidal and wind farms. The open cast mines were part of the landscape but I do not think they should be preserved . Perhaps we should extend the great wall to Hong Kong and Tibet and Realize the full imperialism of China ?Or just accept history as history.
