I was wondering if you could tell me about the D.A.M. MKII in a live situation (compared to the Sweet Sound Pro Bender (I have #21)........ The biggest issue I have with the Pro Bender is that it has a tough time cutting through the mix. Is the D.A.M. the same way? I thought that maybe with the slightly-lower gain it has it would do better, so I figured I'd ask. I can't afford a DAM right now anyway (even as I picture the last good transistors being used up), but I'm still dying to get one.
@MojoMouton Hey don't mean to ride on others videa's. But I am a fuzz lover, I love fuzz pedals. I have some youtube demo's up. Check em' out let me know what you think. Thanks orbitbuilder
That's an awesome sounding fuzz pedal. I assume it was discontinued because D*A*M* are making MKIIs for Colorsound/Sola Sound instead now? I wonder if they're essentially the same pedal.
@mrcali68 I'm trying to get some youtube videos up. I have a friend coming over soon with his kodak youtube camera. I'll let you know how it goes. My website is also in limbo. But it will also be done someday soon.
Really? They always say that about gearmandude but I've never heard that about myself. gearmandude totally sounds like Jack Black...I just sound like me. :)
You may be right...do you have any proof? I suspect that may be true-he definitely had a housing that was identical to the Solasound Professional MKII...but I am thinking it is possible that he had MKI electronics in it?! Whatever fuzz Pagey used,it is the same as Alan Parker used on the "Hurdy Gurdy Man" solos...tone is identical to 'Little Games' era Yardbirds and Zep I fuzz...Proof would be great...
That's the thing...no one has any proof or probably ever will have proof of what he used in Zeppelin. The fuzzbox used in The Yardbirds and Zeppelin I and through the tours going through 1969 were one and the same. The housing looks like a MKII,but the electronics in that housing will never be known. Some propose that there was a MK 1.5- MKII housing, but same or similar guts as a MK I. The wiring also varied for production model MK II's.He switched to a MK III by the French TV/BBC broadcasts
In fact, one WOULD have to see the original pedal to KNOW what is inside the pedal...what transistors, whether it followed a MK 1.5 design or MKII (which had many variants in production models as well),did it or did it not have a 0.01uF capacitor-some MKII's have them and some don't...You can use your ears to tweak the tone as best as you can but your ears can verify what is in the original Page pedal.
Ok I have a few questions before I drop $225. I heard Germanium is unstable and leaks out of the transistors. Is this true? Haha I know it sounds crazy but I'm afraid of chemical shit all over carpet my parents would flip. And how heavy can it go? Would I be capable of playing sabbath with it too?
Guah, the way you did that Zeppelin lick was spot on perfect for a bass to come in. THAT is heavy stuff. You should do a demo of your MKII with OC81D transistors. Also, it largely seems like you are one of the only other people in the world that knows how to use a fuzz. Most are crap today!! Rock on!
Sounds cool...I'm considering buying one...You might want to make a video of a straight on Tele playing some licks from the first album or even the Live Yardbirds featuring Jimmy Page album-these are the records the original was used on..."Whole Lotta Love" is just a Les Paul through a Vox AC-30 according to Jimmy-I don't believe this fuzz was used at all on Zep II...But,thanks indeed for letting us hear the pedal before we buy it:)
thanks, Im sure I read somewhere the oc81d cleans up better than the oc75, I think I read too much into it and assumed the oc75 wouldnt clean up very well, but yours sounds really nice, have you tried the oc81d version, if you have do you think there is a big difference between the two
You are totally right, the OC81D is definately known to clean up better but this particular unit (for whatever reason) cleans up GREAT! I got really lucky with this one. I have an D*A*M OC81D too and to me it's a bit warmer.
Your very welcome! I totally agree! VERY musical. D*A*M makes some of the best pedals I have ever used. Hard to find and really expensive but totally worth it!
DAM that's a beautiful guitar

@Alu122112211221
Because it's a dead on replica of one of the best guitars ever made...the 1959 Les Paul Standard.

What would be the difference between the VOS version and the 50th Anniversary version of the 1959 Les Paul?
Alu122112211221 2 years ago
I make Germanium fuzz pedals. And do quite a bit of buildiing. Contact me if you would like to know more.
I build the Da fuzz face, SS, Mk2 pro, and the Mk3.

@taygoo13 Generally speaking the OC81D's have more gain and the OC75's are more "gritty"

ah, but page didnt use a tone bender. It was a custom effect made by Roger Mayer, housed in the sola sound box

zaxjackson636 3 years ago
A "leaky" transistor is one that loses (leaks) voltage and is inefficiant. Transistors don't contain fluid.
infernalhammer 3 years ago
Alright thanks, I think people were just trying to screw with me.

garbeaj 3 years ago
AC-30s have brought us a lot of tones that are far from "jangly".
The whole Raw Power album by the Stooges is an LP direct into a cranked AC30. And that's some heavy tone.
