  • One of my favorite movies!

  • i have been looking for this movie for ten years... i love this movie ,,, its real

  • Some titles of these movies are offensive as fuck! .Like WTF!!!

  • @porn1978 The movie is based on the novel bearing the same title, which was written by Sam Greenlee, a black author. It's more probable that "spook" referred to the fact that the title character was CIA-trained, though it's also possible that the title had double meaning.

  • ***********

:) I love to see all the Hebrews show theyr angryover the injustice theyve suffered from the Romans. You 'do' know who you are right? You 'do' know that the reason that the West (Empire of Rome) is about to fall is because your GOD The GOD of Jacob/Israel is about to come deliver you from the further oppression you sufferrd for so long? 5-- and how many years? Right! Paybacks a Bitch aint it? Truely A Black Bitch. Ms. Magdalene is a Sista

And She aint Dead. She was Born Dec. 29 1976

  • THIS IS THE MOVIE THAT SCARED THE SHYT OUTTA WHITE AMERIKKKA....

AND THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT A BLAXPLOITATION MOVIE...

IT DODNT STAY IN THE THEATERS PAST 2 WEEKS...

HAD AT LEAST HALF A MILLION BLACK PPL SEEN THIS MOVIE BACK IN THE DAY....WE WOULD NOT BE WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW..

THE MESSAGE IN THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT FREEDOM....NOT KILLING WHITEY.....BUT , IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT WHITEY IS THE ONE HOLDING OUR FREEDOM TO THIS DAY...

    THIS IS THE BLACK MOVIE...PERIOD

  • I have an old VHS copy that I wont let go of. Fabulous movie. A must see for my "Generation X".

  • It was not a "blaxploitation" film but more of an idependant film. "blaxploitation were films that starred black actors, written by white writers directed by White directors and produced and distributed by Jews. Grindhouse is the new PC term given to "blaxploitation" films.

  • KILL WHITEY!!!!

  • The creators of this should put together a part 2....and have a Sista play the lead. Would represent today's situation perfectly...since many of our Queens have gained alot of power and influence to be a spook who sat by the door.

  • This is now available on DVD. Just Google it

  • The book was fantastic!

The logic and intelligence he used to gather and arm his army with the same tactics against the system and authority was great.

  • man my mother had this tape when i was younger and even tried to get me to watch it before but i never would because i didn't know what it was about. glad i found it and watched the whole movie on here. this video was powerful and i can see how it would motivate people to go out and change their surroundings forcefully. it being banned just adds to its greatness. too bad my generation would never pull something like this off. especially with all this technology we'd snitch on ourselves.

  • @88infinity20: How do you know that young people are already doing social change, just because it isn't like that shown in this movie?

  • @Neville6000 are you blind or shelterd? because im neither. there's always going to be little organizations from us younger people, but i don't see anyone doing anything close to what happened in this movie. don't kid yourself.

  • @88infinity20: I'm not as blind and sheltered like you in believing the nonsense you spewed about youth not being as activist and militant as seen in this movie or in the 70s.

  • @Neville6000 you are.....

  • Infiltrating Hollywood: The Rise and Fall of the Spook Who Sat by the Door is a 57-minute documentary on the controversial and repressed 1973 film The Spook Who Sat By the Door. Through interviews, with author Sam Greenlee, Berlie Dixon widow of director Ivan Dixon if you are looking for the real story of the spook who sat by the door Like us on facebook at Infiltrating Hollywood

  • don't take this as a black power movie cause its not its about being free not black or white

  • I've been looking for this film..Thanks for uploading!!!!

  • Notice how Freeman stays in the background like he's taking notes?

  • I doubt Bokari Ltd was a black owned company, white guys did this one, and "black power!" is just as racist as saying "white power!"

  • @nofreedomofspeech White Power is a Dysphamism for HUMANITARIAN WHITE PEOPLE.

  • Subversive factions in the NAACP gave the "blaxploitation" genre it's name for the expressed purpose of these films to lose funding. House negroes like Jesse Jackson spear-headed(no pun intended) the loss of this film genre, cause it might give "us" people to many ideas. Don't take my word for it, do the research.

  • @MrLdrumm I was under the impression that movies got branded "blaxploitation" because a lot of the time they were written and directed by white people to take advantage of the potential (as of then untapped) black film audience and make some money.

  • @FastJohnnyNardGard Again, like I said, do the research. White people did not give the "Blaxploitation" genre it's name. Regardless of who was making these films, they were portraying "strong" black men, and in this case black "revolutionaries", who were killing bigot cops, Klansmen, and anyone who was oppressing the black community. They had to be stopped, and the used the highly ineffectual NAACP (who by the way were started by white fascist factions) to do it.

  • @MrLdrumm: Do you have any links or studies to back up this claim of yours?

  • I think it It is wrong for the person who put this film up to label it as a "blaxploitation" film. it is anything but.

  • @artstar19 what film genre would you place this picture in then? i called it what it was called when released...what does the term mean to you? to me it represents films of a certain era and type...what do you prefer black gindhouse?

  • @sidewinder169 Actually, black grindhouse sounds relevant, all joking put aside. But Americans in general love to divide and separate and label, so everything different must be given a name. No group is being "exploited" in this film, so it's honestly a drama about revolutionaries seeking social liberty by any means necessary.

  • @artstar19 what film genre would you place this picture in then? i called it what it was called when released...what does the term mean to you? to me it represents films of a certain era and type...what do you prefer black grindhouse?

  • @artstar19 This film is about armed revolution in the US. Far from blaxploitation!

  • @artstar19 it's black education!

  • Freeman is a humble and intelligent man. Anyone who is of that caliber are the most power men in the world.

  • this was my favorite book of all time

  • My older brother took my brother and I to see this back when it first came out back in the early 70's. I was too young to understand the message of this great film at the time. Im not surprised they pulled this film. Later in the early 90's I got a copy on vhs from a friend. Got my DVD copy later on. My sons love this movie.

  • herbie hancock's actual proof starts at 2:40

  • Is this a one of a kind plot - or are there any other titles like this? I can't get enough of this movie, a definite favourite.

  • thank you for uploading this movie...

  • "The negroes are the trouble spot" The bblack secretary says.

" The negreos?" The senator replies.

    LOL

  • Correction:It is NOT a true story-It is based on a NOVEL (A novel is a work of FICTION) written by Sam Greenie. How do I know? Well,I seen th' movie around 1974-It was released in 1973. What IS true about the film is the CONTEXT-Not the content.BTW the little African idol @ the beginning is Elegua, who is the African Orisha who sits behind the door & guards the home;A well placed anecdotal inference.

  • this is not black exploitation this is black information and based on a true story and if it ever happened white

  • to sidewinder169:

Thanks for posting! I read the book, it was great. I didn't know the history about it being banned as soon as it came out. What a shame!!!

They're protesting slumdog millionaire in India over the use of the word 'dog' as a description. What would they think of being called a 'spook'?

  • The word "Spook" in this title has a double meaning. It's both a racial slur and a slang term for a spy.

  • and sitting by the door indicates how some companies would have their one black employee sit near the door so when clients walk in they are the first thing they see and give off the illusion that their company is not racist

  • He wrote an excellent book!

  • Damn, my parents said this movie was banned from theaters after the first few days it was out.

  • your parents are correct...

  • Yeah they said Whites where hella scared thinking the movie would inspire an uprising.

  • According to what I've read, the film's distributors, United Artists, were pressured by the FBI to pull the film from release (Google "COINTELPRO"). For the longest while the only way to see the film was overseas, on college campuses, foreign videocassettes or pirated VHS copies. You can buy it on DVD now, and the transfer was made from the original negatives.

  • Interesting!!

  • @sidewinder169 For the longest while, the only way you could see this film was as a 16mm print on a college somewhere, or a multi-generation bootleg VHS tape. It was released on VHS in England and Canada. The DVD available now was made from the master negatives that were found in a vault several years ago.

  • @Simmy34 That's a shame - they need to be playing this again, I wish we could own a REAL black network

  • A REAL CLASSIC

  • great movie
