  • she carried me in low times, sitten around the stereo, belting out her songs, she knew how to sing so's i sang me heart out with her. she and jerry g. were the only 2 performers i cried for when they died.

  • Happy Birthday, Sandy! Today I celebrate your life with your music.

  • sandy, maddy prior (steleye span) the very best of female vocalists Sarah McLachlin and Aimee Lee come close today....pure soul as John Hiatt might say

  • Spine tingling. Not much more I can say.

  • Saw Sandy & Fairport Convention at Brown University in Providence R.I. in 1974. The concert was in a small auditorium with no seating just sitting on the floor. Very intimate which allowed us to get right up to the stage. The fiddle player was fantastic & of course Sandy was out of this world.

  • can i say Jan Arden is a good folk songer of now...? And writer...

  • Even without Fairport Convention, Sandy Denny delivered remarkable songs. Proof with this one!

  • mi susciti sempre una grande emozione quando ti sento sei ancora qui tra noi e dal cielo ci benedici ciao

  • nothing near JJ's intensity, but so beautiful and classic

  • This song grabs my heart and squeezes tight. What a sensitive sweet soul she was.

  • Historically, one of the most powerful infuential musical forces that the UK has ever

witnessed! Sublime delivery of songs from a past era! Her voice will rest in the air of all around her for many years to come. Sandy, you were THE GIRL, and from the comments of listeners Sandy, you may always be that GIRL? Love you. Rest peacefully our little jewell?

  • all the songs on this album are great.

  • Her voice is almost Angelic. Great voice-great song.

  • high quality musicianship.

  • OMG this song is so good . Impossible to diskike . Sandy had the best voice ever!!!

  • Can'r help but think... do these folkshave to scream at you

  • One of Sandy's best tune! just love it!

  • She lives.

Thanks for posting one of my favourite SD tracks!

  • An indigenous sound, solid, difficult to forget; indigenous music always rises from the earth upward, the exact inverse to the the overlay of later peoples who form empires and don't give a damn about the land in and of itself.

  • Still one of the best female singers of all time. A tragedy that she died so young.I've been in love with her since 1972 ...

  • Still in love with Sandy.

  • Sandy was an artist and a force of nature before anyone ever heard of Simon Cowell. And she will be known long after he is forgotten. The IRA is disarming one nail at a time. Until the last nail is in the ground, she will be a hero and he will be comic relief.

  • An Irish gift, thanks

  • The voice of a girl with pure tallent.

  • blobcave I so agree with you, am still listening

  • have heard her name but hadnt listened to her since i read about her in record collector last month now cant stop playing her music were have i been the last 40 years thank you for your post

  • Uma voz ímpar da minha geração adolescente e que importa, de novo, saborear!!!

  • nostalgic, melancholy and times/places from long ago......simply beautiful!

  • @seorasmac i think kynoceph means that if alanwg123 goes 2 c the likes of the jonas brothers nd justin bieber then they will die cause evrytime he sees them!!!hhahahaha

  • Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson both use folk song conventions and old English words in their songs to great effect. It makes you feel that the songs have been in existence for hundreds of years. Sandy's voice has a similar effect. It seems to be carrying messages from an ancient time. It's as if she is some kind of medium. Is she the greatest singer of the rock era? Yes.

  • ...wondering how he came to be....i will always listen sandy

  • Unfortunate that a song like this has only 17 thousand odd hits...shows where we stand today.

  • I was one of the fortunate few. I saw her perform approximately 6 months before her death. She came out in a white flowing gown and just blew everyone away. It seems like yesterday. Unfortunately, I saw Duane Allman a few months before his demise. Maybe I should stop going to concerts.

  • @alanwg123 - on the contrary, I think you should go to MORE concerts. I can give you a list of people you might want to go see. Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers, most of the American Idol gang - I could go on.

  • @kynoceph You must be a child

  • @alanwg123 Please go to a Bon Jovi concert : ).

  • Thanks for the post and keeping her voice alive

  • There are good female singers... and there is Sandy Denny - a truly sublime talent !

  • Oh what a magnificent quality voice. This never fails to bring me to tears. there are so few to rival her today, perhaps kate rusby or Thea Gilmore

  • Thank you hopoil, a friend of mine asked me to listen to her and I had never heard of her before...beautiful voice and seemingly such a short life..absolutely tragic

  • How did t his lovely lady singer die does anyone know??

  • She fell, hit her head rather hard, and died several days later, quite suddenly I guess. Angel's voice and massive talent.

  • @sweetanoushka She had substance abuse issues like most the great artist of her era. But she died of a brain haemorrhage after a fall.

  • @bigbabyjesus12 Thanks for your information about sandy denny....I can't believe I never heard of her until recently....I feel as if I have madea wonderful d iscovery..smiles...

  • @bigbabyjesus12 She did what a lot of people do these days - sometimes had one glass or two too many.

  • beautiful song.miss ya sandy.

  • We need more.

  • Stunning, beautiful song by a extraordinary talent--the world was robbed when she died---

  • a strikingly beautiful song, sung by a strikingly beautiful person.

  • Brings back memories

  • My hero - forever

  • One of her best songs. A voice that was not longed for this Earth

  • Tragedy that she died so young, at least we have wonderful songs to listen to and enjoy. This one always makes me so happy to hear.....what a voice! Few can match it.

  • certainly she's one of THOSE GREAT SINGERS that stay in the audiences' hearts

    krysana

  • a lovely share Mary, thank you!

  • just gentle and so beautiful

  • I love it. thank you for sharing, Mary.

    DAIANDRAH

  • Sandy was amazing! Her voice penetrates my being. Yes, she died too

young! I'm grateful for this music! Thank

    you, for posting!

  • Sandy died way too young.

I have the album "Sandy" from which this song is taken. It was released as a single back in the 70s. She also sings it French - which appears on the cd.

She is a legend with a supreme singing voice. Isn't she, all you Led Zep fans out there ?

  • yes just discovered this song.thank you.song has been in my mind all month. actually its been 2 months - still here-for my late brother hugh-battle of evermore - evermore i will remember him -sorry - you know how it goes xxx

  • i love this song too.. stevejah7.. mary

  • One of my favourites....such a wonderful voice, always makes me happy to listen to this.

  • poise

  • one of the most beautiful song I've benn listening recently! Spectacular staff too: Richard Thompson, "Sneaky"...

  • Of course Simon Cowell may not have appreciated the sublime talent that somebody like Sandy had in the 70's.

So listening to this sublime music and lyrics all these years later is a reminder of how comtemnporary music has been allowed to sink to the lowest possible common denominator. Gos bless you Sandy...hey, we are still all talking about you girl!!! YES!!!

  • @Blobcave HAHAHAHA She was on His Label

  • @Blobcave Great comment!

  • @Blobcave Agree mostly. But is it REALLY obligatory to deny that there's anything good in contemporary music while praising older stuff? When someone cites Simon Cowell and X Factor as representative of today's music you get the impression they might be looking in the wrong places...

  • @Blobcave

"Of course Simon Cowell may not have appreciated the sublime talent that somebody like Sandy had in the 70's."

Probably another good reason to love Sandy's music! Just to piss Cowell off ;)

  • @Blobcave Who cares what Simon Cowell thinks. I've only recently been listening to Sandy but can say with some you are correct-she sings with such a soft voice that it sinks into my soul with such affection. The love affair has begun. Great post-I hope she is looking down on us and see's that happiness she continues and will continue to bring to the world-through You Tube !

  • @kocean1

    Simon who??????????????

  • Now theres a memory a good one at that , saw Richard Thonpson recently and he recalled some memories of his time with Sandy it was quiet moving I must say he was introducing "Fairwell Fairwell" .

God rest her I do hope found some peace oh and yes thanks for the memories

    P

  • Wow...I have this album..beautiful girl...beautiful voice...brings back memories.

We had a lot of great girl vocalists back then...Rickie Lee, Laura Nyro...to name a few..

    Thanks for posting...

  • Thanks for posting!!! everyone should hear the power of this song, one of her most beautiful!!!

    Listen, listen to Sandy Denny

  • Like so many gentle souls with sweet voices, she was gone too soon. Some of us will never forget her, though.
