I sometimes forget, having been a Tesla fan since 1985, that they are this great. What a fantastic tribute to Steve Clark they have made. This band is Hall of Fame worthy. In a copycat world they never changed. God Bless 'em. I am 46 years old and as God as my witness, I will listen to Tesla to the end.
I was just a bit too young at the time to appreciate why it was written, but over the years I've never been able to listen to this song and not be moved by everything it represents. You'll never find a more powerful song within today's mass-produced music.
@MrSailorcal Seen Tesla open for David Lee Roth in '86 and I was like WOW!!! Roth was an after thought. Seen them in '89 with Scorps and you're right Tesla blew them off the stage. The '91 show they headlined was one of the best concerts I ever went to.
Perfect and done well.....I remember right where I was and what I was doing when the news that Steve Clark passed away and it came on the radio,,,,I was listening to 101 WRIF too shit R.I.P. Steve......thank God for radio....
I'm certain I'm not saying anything not already said before. Such a terrific song. To echo other's comments, nothing like a REAL BAND that can write THEIR OWN songs, come up with THEIR OWN riffs. Not only that, they mimicked Steve Clark's technique and riff structure so very well. Such an awesome tribute. From someone who has worked out several HnD and Pyromania tunes on my Les Paul, it's a terrific tribute.
You are absolutely right people have the right to dislike anything or everything, but you must also understand that if you are not a fan of Tesla those that are may not understand which is fine. May I suggest that sometimes things are better left unsaid, this band has earned their stripes from a long time ago though you may not feel that way. Different than most because they did not sell out, they have always remained the same.
@littlesparky141 I cant agree more, you nailed it...I suppose whats frustrating for me is to see LESSER bands with a hell of alot less talent get more accolades than bands like Tesla who've been 100% consistent for over 25 plus years...
@Maxharddrive64 look..its like this, and i tell so many on other folk saying underrated er whatever..these guys went platinum on every LP..every one! they sell out venues every time!..i been listening to them sense about 86" and im in radio, and i have met these guys many times..they aint broke and have no regrets man..none..new LP coming soon by the way..by the way a helluva a party on their bus..lol..every time..
@ltuomela I've met and partied with them myself more than once also..What struck me was how their all really down to earth. Your right they most def do party like rock stars but 'rock star' isn't what describes them. Their just 5 guys that like to play and write great rock songs, and they just happen to do it better than most others.
@Maxharddrive64 couldn't agree more with you. I too have partied with them and they never let the success go to their heads. They always take time to talk with fans and have their picture taken. I just wish they would have been given the respect by the critics that they deserved. Alot of bands came out of the 80's, but they were simply the best. They are still rockin today. Shows what critics know or think they know!
iwish i grew up in the 80's so bad :,( im 21 and grew up on this shit onlyto find out music wouldnt continue to be this good. the music will never die. ever
@Jakembelieve1 I did grow up thru the 80's -graduated high school in 89 and let me tell you the people that listened to this music then weren' mainstream -not by far. The harder the music the more it was disliked. That though is what made it so much fun in a way... I had some of the best times in my life back then -no doubt about it.
eye imagine all those rippin modern music and mourning all the old, brings peace to my heart when i hear of times when we were bold, I leave it there to remember all the good times, and pass on existential meanings for elementary rhymes, if I had a single dollar for every man that went, I'd salute em' with a shot and never pay my rent...."I hear you're alive and man you're doin well, will your music ever die i guess that time will tell"
I seen Tesla 3 times and I can confirm they fucking rock the house...THIS IS WHAT MUSIC USE TO BE WHEN MUSIC WAS IMPORTANT, NOT VIDEOS...MUSIC IS EMOTION....TESLA FAN 4 EVER...
Just lost a young cousin to drugs yesterday who i loved and miss alot. Want to dedicate this song to him, we all live in our own turmoil. R.I.P. Alex!!!!!
These guys come from an era when lots of wanna-be's and posers accross the US would get a metal band (hair metal), appear on magazines, MTV, and pretend they were rock stars, among those, a few real bands stood still as serious and real musicians, no hair metal at all but real music, real rock and roll and Tesla is one of those, I respect this band SO FUCKING MUCH.
@TXLeppard I remember as a kid, knowing very little about Guitar I noticed how it sounded like Clark's style on the guitar through out it. Very cool tribute. Now as an adult and knowing a lot more, I appreciate that so much more.
@jmpilcher cuz their ignorant foks that have no appreciation or understanding from where their music comes from or for that matter anything made before 2000...We went from generation X to generation DUUUUUH.
Gives me Goose bumps! That guitar bit is like Steve Clark is playing ( 1:48 ) beyond the grave...I miss you Steve as much as I miss this era...Never to be repeated :(
I find it hilariously sad when fanboys have dickwaving contests over people they never knew over an instrument they themselves can't play. Music is music. You either turn it up, or turn it off. Bitching and whining has no place in rock. Grow up.
wow all this arguing over a fucking brilliant, awsome song. i owned it when it first came out and the insert definitely said it was for/to Steve 'Steamin' Clark. dude i try to be a nice guy, but i think Frank Hannon was fucking w/you if he said that it was for Dimebag.
@MrHondaracer12.... very fucking correct sir. this one just plain fucking jams, especially when it's time to run for cover because it looks like rain. Turns and leans his shoulder into the wind? brilliant and unfortunately sad.
@fanodmusic.. i know man, every time i hear this time it gives me the chills. it was an amazingly writen song. tesla is my all time favorite band. they dont get the credit they deserve.
dude im tellin you right now its about dime , your wrong , i went to the tesla concert last year , that played at DTE i talk to frank hannon and dave rude , song and wmorion is like one of my favorite songs , i asked them who was it about and that said dime bad darrel , and their a dvd i got , its a bigg show tesla played and thay talked about this song thay said its about dime bag and when they were playing the song it sowed pics of dime , sooo you dont no what your talking about
@SuperGuitarplayer100 Dude ...get over it....Dime bag was a dirt bag who unfortunately met an untimely demise as he was getting it together. But this song was written B4 anyone knew who the f*#k Pantera was!!
@mkv2006 pantera has been around since 1981 but you had to find out about them through word of mouth or watch headbanger's ball on mtv back when adam curry was the vj
it wasent about steve , this song is about dime bad darrel from pantera , i went to a tesla concert and got a back stage pass and i was talking to frank hannon about it ,
@SuperGuitarplayer100 Wrong!!!.... this song was written way before Dime bag ever died. This song was released in 1991. Dime bag died 13 years later. So explain how Tesla wrote a song for about a dead guy 13 years before he died? Not sure what you are talking about.
The song is about Steve Clark from def leppard. It even said in the CD insert "Song & Emotion (To Our Friend, Steve 'Steamin' Clark)"
@SuperGuitarplayer100 It was definitely written for Steve Clark. Tesla has acknowledged this many, many times over the years during interviews.
Given the very Clark/Leppard'esque riff that follows; "You can hear him play" @ 1:48, it surprises me that anyone doubts this. If nothing else convinces you, Google Steven Clark - you'll see that the song/tribute is even mentioned in his biography.
@SuperGuitarplayer100 It's about Steve Clark mate. Look it up, read it, and weep. Dime Bag Darrell doesn't have shit on Steve. The man had talent coming out the wazoo. Dime Bag was a shit guitar player as it is. So why was he even discussed?
Even though the song was written before Steve 'Steamin' Clarke's untimely death, it was written about the tragic downward spiral of Steve's life. You only have to listen to the Def Leppard inspired sound of the guitars on the song and the Clarke-esque solo to know it is about Steve. It is clear that the Tesla guys were deeply distressed by the pain and suffering their dear friend was going through.
ok so people think this was about steve clarke which is a beautiful reason for the song but if you check the facts guys this song was released 9 months before steve clarke died so its not about him. but feel free to use the lyrics to remember the genius of steve clarke
@JetFireROCKS1 I'll second that. The song was written before Clarke's death but indeed *was* written for him. Tesla spent a lot of time touring/hanging with Def Leppard back in the day and were witness to Clarke's struggles - as someone else appropriately put it, his "tragic downward spiral".
we miss steamin steve for sure, no other like him .....what he and phil did changed everything, back when selling out was actually getting better, not like metallica black album blah
WOW THIS SONG IS FANTASTIC!! Hands down the best tribute to Steve Clark ever... wow, i have so much more respect for Tesla, and that is saying a lot, because i already love the band!! ...they toured with Def Leppard on their Hysteria tour in the round... wish i coulda been alive to see that.../:
There were so many great bands during the late 80s, you were bound to miss out on a few if you grew up during the decade. I've only recently begun to really listen to them a lot and they are definitely what I consider a great band!
Free energy has been here all along ,But the powerfull Oil business won't alow common ppl to know this,Get a real free energy motor at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Big change is comming soon!
@jonathanmoreno1000 Steve Clark was one of the guitar players in def leppard who died on january 8th 1991 they wrote this song for him because tesla's first big tour was with def leppard on the hysteria tour

@TheMyke3686 It was actually released 8 months after his death, not before. You really need to do some research into your posting.

Haunting to hear Tesla wrap in classic Clark-sounding riffs into this journey. RIP Steamer...

Such a great song.
There were so many great bands during the late 80s, you were bound to miss out on a few if you grew up during the decade. I've only recently begun to really listen to them a lot and they are definitely what I consider a great band!
