@firstclassbuck44 thank you for your story, see i'm 50 myself ,although i first picked the bass up at 17 and stuck with it for a year or 2,then i pawn my bass and i never went to pick it up. my kids knew that i mess ahead with the bass in my past and 2christmas' ago they got me a bass.now i can feel the passion coming back, but i kept telling myself that my hand speed is gone since i'm much older, but with your's and the 67 yr. old gentlemen story i think i can still master the bass. thanks.
@firstclassbuck44 You are never too old, the only thing that stops you learning is lack of inspiration and motivation, literally the only thing, that and carpal tunnel disease :L
Well Hell, That's just awesome! You must have picked up the bass pretty quickly to be playing that good so soon. Hey, beautiful bass too. Love that red and black with the maple fingerboard.
Sweet!! I love doing this also!! I have Ibanez Silver Series bass and Ampeg B-410. A couple of my favorite songs are "Ain't Got No Home" by Clarence "The Frogman" Henery, and "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc. Also, "Come Together"-Aerosmith
@firstclassbuck44 magic fingers are genetic. I am soon to be 40 and i can play both bass parts and main keyboard parts on riders on the storm simultaneously... I sound l;ike an arse hole but it's true, perfect pitch and natural disposition to things are not about age or interest - - it's about how high your midiclorian count is musically, the force is strong with you....accept it my friend. just choose your lightsaber colour.....? mine's disco green by the way. Love to you .
@firstclassbuck44 Absolutely never too late, I've just started, am 38 and thought I was rather late, but I've always wanted to....... we all need to think outside the box! GO for it and KEEP doing what you know to be FUN.... lifes just too short not to.
Hello, I like this one and I will practise on this song too. It's very solid quality bass work. Well done. I have only started playing bass at the age of 40. You comments confirm to me ". It's never to late " :-)
Hello, I like this one and I will practise on this song too. It's very solid quality bass work. Well done. I have only started playing bass at the age of 40. You comments confirm to me ". It's never to late " :-)
i wanna also get to the point where fingers are dancing to the music while i play. i mean seriously. it was like ur fingers moonwalking and doing some funky moves
@Funkyskunk01 The main give away that it is the newer EB Stingray is that it has the 3 band EQ. Notice the 4 knobs - Volume, Low, Mid and High. The pre EB models have no Mid control.
@AussieBassist I have a ernie ball bass and I honestly never new that there wasnt a mid control in the older models. but this bass has that power that is present in all older musicmans. cheers for the info!
How are you getting the punchy attack with quick decay? Are you using a compressor with a long attack time or is your left hand technique (i.e. choking the note off quickly)?
Dang, I was afraid you would say that! I'm going to have to work on my left hand muting technique then.
I've just picked up bass after playing guitar for 20 years, and one of the toughest adjustments is having to do so much muting with the fretting hand. With guitar your right hand takes care of most of the muting. It's in a good position to do that because the edge its the palm rests on the strings. Not so with bass, at least not fingerstyle, so the left hand has to help out more.
One other question -- do you pluck with two fingers or three? And how long did it take you to where you were comfortable doing sixteenth notes? I can do quarters and eights no problem, but sometimes if there's a little sixteenth note grace note my fingers can't quite pull it off, especially if the notes aren't on the same string. I can do it with a pick but not fingers.
sounds awsome man lol funk is awsome when ur thumpin on the bass haha if u got time u guys should check out my band lol we just started we got a metal sound and im the bass player sick video man
not true: i used to have one and i got a fender jazz and sold the musicman. fenders (jazz) are definitely hands down the best for funk. musicman sounds great tho dont get me wrong.
