  • I spent 27 years with Burlington Northern Railroad as a section labor Thanks for posting this song. Brings back many good times I had with the railroad.

  • Damn, sounds just like the record I still have....time didn't hurt Mark's voice and playing at all.

  • recuerdos delos 70s cuando estaba en la secundaria y fumaba mota

  • GEZZZ man i love these guys!!! i can remember us jamming in the basement calling R self's little funk..back in the 70's some of the best time's and i've seen these guys 6 maybe 7times now the last time was in cherokee NC at a bike rally.I was just lucky to be there 900miles away from home that week!

YOU GUYS ROCKED my life !

  • God blessed Farner with a fantastic voice and great musical talent. Awesome as ever!

  • Geeze they still sound the same after all these years.

  • this is from the American Band Gold Album like 1973-74

  • I don't care what so called professionals are saying, GFR is the BEST ROCK BAND on the planet Earth!!! Mark is best rock singer and sologuitarist! WHat a bout Mel, oh man nobody plays the bass like Mel and our giant Drummer Don, yeah GRAIG is all right to! GFR Forever!!!

  • Everyone sign our petition for Grand Funk. Link is in video description.

  • not only is this probably the most under-rated rock band of all time, but farner is the most under-rated singer. this guy could sing like a fucking bird! one of the greatest rhthym sections of all time too! fuck, what a band

  • cut the bullshit fellas...really..get over your mind games..look at michael jackson and his impact...look at yall"s fellas...dammit...dont let time and what if history be your legacy....a chemistry of both current groups can make grand funk railroad............trust me..i feel it...so yaall feel it

  • Thanks for putting up the video, this was big when I was in Jr High school, they are still my favorite band of all time.

  • wonderful song played with emotion ...one of their best work in my opinion. Legendary band !

  • The New York Daily News Nationwide Readers' Poll for 1971. Tens of thousands of votes were cast from every state in the nation. When the final score was tallied, Grand Funk Railroad had garnered a whopping 75% of the total vote as "Best Rock Group In The U.S." Left to split up the remaining 25% were: 2. Creedence Clearwater, 3. Jackson Five, 4. Led Zeppelin, 5. Three Dog Night, 6. The Who, 7. Sly, 8. Santana, 9. Chicago, and 10.Ten Years After!
  • Everyone click the blue link above & sign our petition to induct Mark Farner & GFRxR into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

  • I second that emotion...even today!

  • yes man i agree that usa people liked , the most, gran funk. i'm from greece young and i respect this group... great voice here an all the play is fantastic even if it's 1998...

  • Hey PackedFunk,

I love you! Grand Funk Railroad is not only the best rockband in of he USA, but of the whole wide world!!! Since iwas fourteen i fell in love with GFR and i still am!

  • one of underrated band,GFR

  • I saw Mark perform this song this past July and he still has the most clear, strong, soulful voices in the music business today. Great song.

  • Grand Funk was the first band I ever got into. The year was 1970 and I was all of nine years old. For years, I had every release the band ever put out. This song has always been one of my favorites, especially on the second live album, Caught In The Act. I hope one day, Mark, Don, Mel and Craig will take the stage together again. That was a great band. Thanks for putting this video up.

  • Being a fan of GFR of their of earlier 4th of July fireworks years, I don't think I really got this song intil now 30 plus years later. What a great song.

  • So often in life, true genius in artform is NOT recognized until a person has passed. Someone once said, "Something is not considered great until it absolutely, positively, CAN NOT be ignored."

I know that GFRxR was not everyone's cup of tea. That being said, it can not be ignored what 3 average guys from Flint, Michigan acomplished from '69-'76.

Too many albums were sold, too many concert tickets were sold, & too many artists were influinced by these 3 guys for R&RHOF to ignore them.

  • a timeless classic.... love the drums

  • This man's got soul. Everytime I hear this song I get tears in my eyes from the emotion Mark puts into his singing. Truly filled with the Holy Spirit he is.....

  • This song has is wonderful since I spent 27 years on Burlington Northern Railroad I know what hard work the railroad is. thanks Grand funk I love you guys and this song.

  • Another Great Mark Farner Classic by a seemingly tireless Grand Funk Railroad.

  • hey packed is this song on any of their albums? if so which on thank for your help.

  • Hello bigguy. The Railroad is on the "Caught In The Act" album from 1975. That live album is considered to be one of the 10 best live albums of all time. A good one to add to your collection.

  • @bigguy4570 : This was on the We're An American Band album, get one with the bonus tracks and remastered cd's.

  • thanks packed funk¡¡¡¡¡

    great great great song

  • My favorite GFR tune - thanks for posting ... been a fan ever since my older brother brought home the first GFR album in ... was it really '69 ? Seems not THAT long ago ... unfortunately i have never seen them in concert. They have my vote for the R&R Hall of Fame !

  • I understand that the rock & roll hall of fame seems important to a lot of GFR fans, but the music is mostly what matters. Anyway, majority rules and when it does happen for those that care it would be cool if Dennis Bellinger and Craig Frost were at the proceedings too. "The Railroad" is one of Mark's most inspired songs, lotsa tricky guitar work sounds like to me, even tho I'm a non-musician. Peace brothers & sisters, as Mark would say.

  • I think this one is underrated among GFR fans. One of my personal favourite after '72GFR songs.

  • totally! i luuuv luv luuuuv this song! i listen to it ALLLL the time!!!!!!!!

  • I couldn't agree more. Mark's vocals are outstanding! Just wish the audio was better. Cmon people get on board and sign the petition!

  • this is the ultimate blues for the working class...i got tell people ever since i first listen to this version of the song...i began to think that GFRxR is just to much for the Rn'R hall of fame...don't get me wrong...

  • ...This is an OUTRAGE! Even though this stat is 36 years old it outrages me even more! Still not in the Hall Of Fame? What? Why? How? Who?...Who? Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone...thats WHO. Lets BOMBARD THE BASTARD W/BULLSHIT. I have numerous suggestions throughout this channel. C'mon and ride THIS railroad baby! ALL ABOARD!!!!!

  • fattdaddy is right. Enough of this nice guy crap. Let's flood that SOB with BULLSHIT! If he is going to act like shit, he gets treated like SHIT! Fattdaddy has many suggestions on videos on this channel on how to get back at that fool. All Aboard!!!!

  • Help! Help! Help! I wish I could download The Railroad from GFR into my computer...Help me!

  • Search the web for "Kiss YouTube". Save the file with a .flv extension at the end. Also download FLV player, both are free.

  • C'mon guys one mo'time!

  • Alright Packedfunk I have been waiting for someone to post the Railroad, Yeah !! Thanks for sharing I enjoyed this. This was about the only band I listened to for a long time when I was young and I got to meet Mark several times,he always was a class act, Peace from Thailand ,5 ***** loved it ,Mitch

  • Right-on Mitch from Thailand! Farner's tribute to The Working Man! This is a great song for sure. Take care in Thailand Bro! T.J.

  • Awsome as always. Wether it is the Red album, Locomotion, All the girls beware, Phoenix, 1969 or 2007. Mark, Don & Mel (with or without Frost)will always be the best!!! I can't think of one GF album that's disappointing!

    Istimewa

  • Come on there tnuc4u. A little harsh I would say. We all love these guys together. Together, they were the best live band ever, but Farner is no slouch as a solo artist. I've seen Farner solo many times & have never been disapointed. His live shows are still better than anything out there. I went to a 3 day festival called RockStock with 30 bands. Farner & Nr'G were the best band of the 30, hands down. Farner plays longer & harder than anyone, even today.

  • I totally respect your opinion and Im glad Farner solo band makes you happy. I am a music teacher and I hear things a little different and the youtube video's Im watching of Marks band and than Grand Funk its just like night and day the difference in tone, enthusiasm etc. I thank you for letting me express myself You have a great channel , I'll try not to be so harsh,I just speak from my heart.

  • I know there was growth and maturity with each album after but the spark and creativeness in those early albums were fantastic maybe it was because at the time of writing they were young single and in touch with the people and that touched the people so well. Love to see a band of today step up and take the challenge of doing a remake of Inside Looking Out , Into the Sun or Winter and My Soul

  • I definitely agree with you tnuc4u the spark and magic wasn't as much when they went to a quad band rather than the threesome they started as. The first three albums were untouchable and of course the Live album the forth is all time classic rock, the best hard blues rock ever done. Each fed the other and each grew and drew from the other.

  • "Come on and ride the RAILROAD 1 more time"

Please help induct this great American Band into the Hall of Fame. PLEASE, sign the petition at the description of this video, and lets all ride the RAILROAD together to CLEVELAND! May FUNKYNESS sanctify your soul!

  • fattdaddy, love readin your comments, you are spot on. Yes, yes, im a 37 year follower of GFR. Know all about em, Love em. I will ride that Railroad one more time and as long as Im alive I will never get off!!!

  • Wow Rawhide53! Thanks! I've been a FUNKSTER since I was a youngster. Now I'm helping PackedFunk beat the drum to get GFRxR inducted into the Hall of Fame. Hey, did you sign the petition? Thanks!

  • Yes I did sign it. Ya know I get really pissed when the Rock Industry doesn't acknowledge GFR for what they did and what they were about. What impressed me about them was character. They didn't have to do weird stuff on stage, you know what I mean. Just rock and have fun and move the hell out of you!!!!!

  • GFRxR have 33 gold & platinum ALBUMS earned & many gold & platinum singles. They also still hold many ticket sales records. NOT being recognized by The R&R HOF is a bitch-slap to every fan who bought one of those albums or concert tickets. Stop the injustice!

Sign the petition in this video's description.
