"The Davidic Empire, which archaeologists once thought as incontrovertible as the Roman, is now seen as an invention of Jerusalem-based priests in the seventh and eighth centuries B.C. who were eager to burnish their national history." - 'False Testament: Archaeology Refutes the Bible's Claim to History,' Daniel Lazare, Harper's Magazine, March, 2002.
There no reference indicating Exodus in any historical paper left behind the Egyptian history.. Yet, The Exodus happened and the Scriptures: all the Scriptures testify the Exodus happened.. Now likewise the Exodus, David was not real only in Person and deeds. He was both Prophet and King and he was given the blessings from heaven and he was forgiven and his deeds were blessed in heaven..As a Muslim in faith and belief, I do believe in all stories mentioned in the Lord's Holy Scriptures

"the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul...Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul...only Jonathan and David knew the matter...and they kissed one another, and wept one with another...And they two made a covenant before the LORD...my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women."
let me just put it this way at the risk of sounding ridiculous king David is a myth.. a myth that (as myths do) serves a purpose, i believe it to be a good myth i.e in its core it talks about doing the right thing in the eyes of god and showing humanistic virtues as well. having read the book once or twice i understand king davids character as complicated, i think his heritage and legacy should be reviewed through understanding that he is the one allowing his heir to make PEACE .
keep telling the truth. king david was black, solomon was black, and yeshua was black. how else would the inn keeper know to tell Yusef and Mary that there was no room at the inn and then rent a room to the next customer?

In several battles, David and his mighty men are said to have slain a number of "giant" Philistines.
The oldest sources from 2 Samuel 21:19, tell us that it was Elhanan Ben-Jair of Bethlehem who killed Goliath of Gath, "whose spear was as a weavers beam."
Elhanan and David were both from Bethlehem, so it is possible the stories of who killed Goliath were fused together and later retold as the story of David and Goliath, not Elhanan and Goliath.
Yes King David did kill Goliath , they have found Goliath's skull with the stone still in his forehead! They have also found writings about the great King Daivd to prove he lived!
where is it? i guarantee you dont even know who your great grandfather was. too many margaritas....alot of people still believing in these fables should seek proffesional help.
During another battle at Gob, Elhanan son of Jair[f] from Bethlehem killed the brother of Goliath of Gath. The handle of his spear was as thick as a weaver's beam!
Jordan, you understand that "brother of Goliath" is a later copyists reconciliation of the two traditions. The earliest manuscripts dating back to the time of the Septuagint, simply read "killed Goliath of Gath."
Furthermore, the comparison between Goliath's spear, and the description of his spear as recounted in 1 samuel 17 indicates a common origin of the tale.
I should also add that the comparison of Goliath's spear to that of a weaver's beam is not so much a comparison of thickness as it is likely a reference to the resemblance of his spear having been wound around the shaft by a leather cord to assist propulsion of the projectile when released in combat. Iron age spear throwers of similar description were used by ancient Greeks, and Celts, and added many additional yards to a throw thus increasing the average effective range.
While it is true that King David probably ruled over a population perhaps only in the tens of thousands, his legacy was never forgotton by his allies and enemies alike.
The question of King David's existence was solved in 1993 with the discovery of Hazael's victory stele found in Tel Dan. Hazael, about 830 BC claimed a victory over Joram king of Israel, and Ahazyahu king of Beth David.
This refutes Finkelstein's claim that Judah (Beth David) did not become a regional power until the 7th or 8th centuries, when in fact Hazael king of Aram is describing a kingdom of Beth David in the 9th century, and gives clues that it was founded by a "David" even earlier.

@7959391 The scriptures testify?
That's not nearly enough evidence.
Jesus himself said that the testimony of one witness,
even the testimony of Jesus himself,
was not reliable.

Did David really kill Goliath?

I highly doubt you are serious Booku. However, I certainly agree with you that David, and probably Goliath were historical persons.

"...a later copyists reconciliation of the two traditions. "
So the scriptures really are made by men.
Of course.
