@denizsi Well the male Cousland IS the Teryn of Highever since Bryce and Ellenore died and Furgus is MIA. According to Ferelden law the Teryn of Highever is the next in line to be King. Then there's the fact that Cousland stopped the men who usurped the queen while she was on the throne, all while uniting different races and peoples of the land to form an army against the Darkspawn. Cousland IS entitled to the throne. I would have still married Anora anyway and made her equal, not just consort.

The thing that really bugs me about it, aside from the fact that Anora will only make Cousland a consort king, is the fact that if you hook her up with Alistair... she'll go along with HIM being King even though she dislikes him. So, Alistair as official King and her in HIS shadow = acceptable. Me as King and her as Queen sharing the burden and the credit equally = unacceptable, even though she has the hots for Cousland. BioWare needs to make a "King Me!" DLC patch. Believe it!

@haloless0320 Just in terms of his strength, especially after you've properly leveled him up, he's invaluable. I can trust that if Alistair is surrounded by foes, I can handle my circle of idiots and he can handle his. Morrigan is strong, but only if no one is tapping her on the shoulder.

@simfamSP If you download "Return to Ostagar," you meet one of the men who was at Ostagar, and he says that even if Loghain had flanked the darkspawn like intended, it wouldn't have mattered. The darkspawn force was simply too powerful. So maybe it was all for the best?
@simfamSP I have no problem with leaving the king. But he should have just stayed in Gwaren. If he had gone this route, I'd have respected that. But Loghain didn't leave JUST to defend Ferelden. He also left to kill the Wardens and impose his method of "unification" on the Bannorn. All he had to do was stay in his Teyrnir and I'd not even call the man a bastard. But he made a plan, advised Cailan and the Wardens, then made off like a bandit. All to stop the dreaded "Orlesians"

He won't betray you because characters that you recruit tend to only turn on you if you cross some kind of personal line, so we know this as humans controlling from the outside of the life story. If you were truly in the Warden's position, would you really trust Loghain -- someone who's very likely to betray you as he did the king and all the wardens? Try to imagine you don't have a save and a load option.
@LloydChristmas777 I know you probably will think I'm crazy, but I'd be intrigued. I mean, I had no dealings with the other wardens. I found Cailan a pleasant diversion, but little more. Besides, having just beat him, he knows he has no hope of winning. Basically, I'd probably recruit him then have him under surveillance by way of Zevran and Leliana. Taking him in is just like taking Sten in. Both killed people they had no reason to. The only diff is the scale of the crime.
For me, anyone that committed crimes that I was passionately displeased with (given the choices of the game), I either killed, had killed, or left behind. If I think there could be more to the story, then I'd consider it. However, the clear stories such as Zevran's assassination attempt on you, and Loghain's repeated attempts to murder you (besides his other crimes), make it pretty easy for me to decide their fate.

I always cast a wide net in recruitment efforts. If they have fighting skill and I can subdue him, I'm recruiting them. If I was the Warden, a bunch more people than is allowed would be in my party. Like.... Zathrian, Kolgrim, LotF, etc..

@Meroviggian he has no reason for killing arigena because he can't be one.(its a female only rule) and if he actually somehow take down the whole qunari leadership, no one but tal-vashot will even talk with him. he will be attacked on sight. so again, becomeing tal-vashot is the only way for him to become any sort of king. sten are squad leaders. that is the demand of the qun and if sten was qualified to be arishok, he would have. he is already too old to assume the qun will change its mind.
So, we spare Loghain because "we need every Grey Warden", but then execute Alistair and everyone just stands there and does nothing? Makes perfect sense.. not.

It's simple... If you believe that the end justifies the means, then you would let Loghain live. Still, nothing he did in the past or his belief in what he was doing excuses his actions in present day. The end should not justify the means. Especially when the end is self-serving. Which in this case, it is. You can't fix a treacherous heart. Flemeth's disgust with humans chasing mortal rewards when greater dangers are at hand is absolutely appropriate and I agree with her wholeheartedly.
@gabrielxl Loghain was just misguided. He was doing what he thought was best. Even if his paranoia and hatred of Orlais led him to do the wrong things, he did them for the right reasons. His heart was still in the right place, and having Arl Howe whispering in his ear probably didn't help. And people who desert from the Wardens are usually executed anyway...
@kieran530 I have to disagree with you. IMO, his heart was nowhere near the right place. If so, he'd have said that he wouldn't deploy his forces just satisfy a king's lust for glory. Then, whether you agreed with him or not, his honor would be without question. Instead, he pulled a coup d'etat and blamed another group (who he disliked) for something they didn't do. Where's the honor in that? As far as his intentions are concerned... *The road to hell is paved with good intentions.*
And Btw. Riordian says that there are too few Grey Wardens in ferelden so we need an another one. But when you accept Loghain as a grey warden Alistair leaves, so it's fucking Pointless.
I understand Riordan, but I can see Alistair's point as well. Fine, Grey Wardens aren't judges, but making Loghain a Grey Warden would be... disgraceful after what he's done. I understand objectiveness, but sometimes justice comes first. You can't just forget a slaughter like the battle at Ostagar and merrily make him a Grey Warden like nothing happened. It's ridiculous. That's like turning a murderer into a cop.

@Meroviggian he has no reason for killing arigena because he can't be one.(its a female only rule) and if he actually somehow take down the whole qunari leadership, no one but tal-vashot will even talk with him. he will be attacked on sight. so again, becomeing tal-vashot is the only way for him to become any sort of king. sten are squad leaders. that is the demand of the qun and if sten was qualified to be arishok, he would have. he is already too old to assume the qun will change its mind.

But, the part I hate about Dragon Age is doing the playthroughs over and over to get different results in Awakening and DA2.
I deleted so many profiles to be Alistair's queen--only to find out he refers the Warden Queen as his "Ball and Chain".
I wish there was a cheat to fast travel from Ostagar to Denerim. I mean after a couple playthroughs--it gets annoying.

It's simple... If you believe that the end justifies the means, then you would let Loghain live. Still, nothing he did in the past or his belief in what he was doing excuses his actions in present day. The end should not justify the means. Especially when the end is self-serving. Which in this case, it is. You can't fix a treacherous heart. Flemeth's disgust with humans chasing mortal rewards when greater dangers are at hand is absolutely appropriate and I agree with her wholeheartedly.

@gabrielxl Loghain was just misguided. He was doing what he thought was best. Even if his paranoia and hatred of Orlais led him to do the wrong things, he did them for the right reasons. His heart was still in the right place, and having Arl Howe whispering in his ear probably didn't help. And people who desert from the Wardens are usually executed anyway...

@kieran530 I have to disagree with you. IMO, his heart was nowhere near the right place. If so, he'd have said that he wouldn't deploy his forces just satisfy a king's lust for glory. Then, whether you agreed with him or not, his honor would be without question. Instead, he pulled a coup d'etat and blamed another group (who he disliked) for something they didn't do. Where's the honor in that? As far as his intentions are concerned... *The road to hell is paved with good intentions.*

I understand Riordan, but I can see Alistair's point as well. Fine, Grey Wardens aren't judges, but making Loghain a Grey Warden would be... disgraceful after what he's done. I understand objectiveness, but sometimes justice comes first. You can't just forget a slaughter like the battle at Ostagar and merrily make him a Grey Warden like nothing happened. It's ridiculous. That's like turning a murderer into a cop.

Yes Alistair isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but expectation will forge him into a compassionate and charismatic King. Sadly he is to naive the handle the necessary underhanded elements inherrent in power, Anora's amorality makes her capable of making any decisions without batting and eyelid so long as she can justify it was for the greater good; essentially she;'s her father's daughter. But it was her father's warped reasoning that resulted in Cailan's demise, but he was a naive fool too
