You can't live in the wilderness. The Gubberment will come and get you. They don't want anyone to be self sufficient. That would make you non productive to the corporation. But this is great. You can do all of this stuff in your backyard...just so you don't bother your neighbors. And what ever you do, don't gut a buffalo in your back yard. Neighbors hate the smell of boiling tallow.
im 13 and im going a backpacking trip with my 14 year old friend kaeden and by the time we go in ill be 14, im so excited. :) i hate being at home or in the city or at school.
Yes I too am sitting in front of my computer but that does not make me a hypocrite I am here to access educational stuff such as this on the worlds largest library.
The person was referring to kids who play shoot em up all day, gorging on junk food and lolling on facebook about some latest justin bieber crap.
It's easier to get year round cordage than you may think. The knowledge of how to make your own cordage, shelter, and fire doesn't mean you don't use modern gear, it means you don't have to rely on it. The skills lead to a greater sense of resiliency, awareness, independence, and appreciation for what is out there by being "plugged in" to the landscape instead of living "off of it" like an alien. Again, suffering is a comment on ones skill level, as is dependency on modern gear.
@p4h10oso Yeah... These anti-computer are on a computer... That is the real irony... Not you learning how to make a friction fire by sitting in front of a computer... Don't be ashamed by these posers... It's ok to embrace technology as long as you don't revolve your life around it... Our power grid is slowly becoming overloaded and I honestly and realistically predict that within 60 to 70 years there will be massive blackouts all over the United States... So I know how to live without it...
@WahooFilms I am! And it gives me some comfort as a parent to know that she could take care of herself if needed. It's the 2nd best thing a parent can do for their child. IMO
@WahooFilms sadly, groups like the Boy Scouts are looked down upon and laughed at in modern america... I had a great time in scouts and learned alot, but what sadly it will probably take a global distater for people to wake up and realize that our current socitity is unsustainable.
@ITSGABEZ i do too im 14 also my cousin and i have built numerous hut/shelters/lean-to's and have had fun since age 7 in them now i have axe's and flint and steels and i practice my firemaking and such...
@WahooFilms Im 15 im learning from youtube videos and btw the hut they made was impractical the debris hut is meant to be made unconfortably close to your body because the only thing that keeps it warm is your body heat and the debris needs to be close to you, in below ten celcius these kids would be screwd
@TheHellBound666 I'm a 12 Year old kid, i only really come on the computer for 30 mins a day to look for tips like this as i like survival things. my mum and dad never taught me it so i teach it to them when i learn it all :)
@TheHellBound666 whoa, are you retarded? I mean, you can teach that stuff in addition to math and science, but not at the expense of it. otherwise they will actually HAVE to live like that because they'll be jobless and homeless.
of course you can, school is important, and once they've completed it they can decide what they want in life, but having a job/home isn't mandatory to live a good life, if it's out of choice. I know a few people who have gone through college to be doctors/lawyers and have ended up living in the woods in a small group, they do just fine, if not better than most of us.
@TheHellBound666 Wish I had classes like this when I was that age. I have to look this stuff up and find books and things online to learn by myself. How out of touch with our own planet have we become. We think we are so much better now, but you drop your average city dweller in the middle of the forest and they would probably die.
i would LOVE to do this! so much! but i live in Australia.... DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMIIT!!!!!!

I grew up in the woods, and have done these things you teach that are shown inyour video. I would love to learn more. And help others learn too.

@TheHellBound666
Right, because when it comes down to it,
CEOs and every other employer is looking skills used in the Stone Age,
not being able to use cutting-edge technology. (like Google, which owns YouTube, letting you see this)
With all due respect to ancient survival techniques (I'm a big "fan" of them) the modern day takes precedence,
ergo teaching "how to sit in front of computers" > "how to make a debris-hut"
Go forwar and retain the knowledge from the past.
But don't go backwards.
