  • I bet Dale was tee'd off when his car did that on him. It looked like he might've ran out of gas.

  • kinda like jr in the coke 600 but instead of a flat tire he ran out of fuel

  • Biggest upset in Daytona 500 history until today! Trevor Bayne wins 500 in second ever start!

  • That would suck to have a flat tire on the last lap.

  • I still CANNOT believe this. People don't talk about this as much as they should. Dale Sr. should have been a two time winner of the Daytona 500.

  • @robmerrill888 More than that. Dale finished second fives times (most of any driver in history), plus this and 1994...

  • @TyVBuccaneer 95 rather

  • @TyVBuccaneer Yeah. But those were most definitely not as close as this one.

  • 0:36 teresa seems pretty excited to watch him lose

  • @TonyPizzaro It was more "HE'S GONNA WIN, HE'S GONNA WI-AH WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!?!?!?"

  • Are all of those Crew members jumping at the end? Then again its the end of the race. Might as well take off the gear.

  • when i first watched this i was like how could dale earnhardt lose then its like his car just blewup or something i think he blew a tire

  • Derrike Cope FTW!!!!

    Best driver ever

  • @marblemailbox funny joke

  • The biggest upset in Fucking NASCAR history! I'm still pissed 19 years later

  • wow it took the commentators like 6 seconds to say anything about Sr.'s mishap.

  • the video's frames-per-second are moving faster than the sound...in the actual broadcast, they said right when the tire went down. This video is moving faster than normal.

  • it was so unreal, that's why...

  • When did Cope become a has-been?

  • I hated that race!! I wanted Earnhardt to win that sucker so bad! Kirk Shelmerdine said at one time in that race they had a 40 second lead. My heart dropped when he blew that tire. Thank goodness for '98.

  • They'll take 'em any way they can get them.

  • They seem faster back than.

  • Very first NASCAR race I ever watched..Great, however anticlimactic finish.

  • Derrike Cope, the most talentless winner of daytona ever....

  • Mixed opinions...Luck has a lot to do with racing...If Cope had joined a better team with better equipment he might have won more races...He did win at Dover in 1990, too.

  • hey buddy derrike is my dads cousin so back off.....if he was so talentless how did he win.EXACTLY!!!!!!

  • No one ever said he was talentless he just said he wont the most untaltend to win the Daytona 500. Cope can drive a car or he wouldnt have been in Cup, but he is not one of the grestest drivers... I like him yes, lucky yes, but hey he's a Daytona 500 champion, not alot of people can say that.

  • because of a flat tire... biggest fluke in Sports history

  • he won because dale's tire going flat. cope even said he couldnt have cought earnhardt if he tried

  • yeah the audio is way behind the video

  • This was Cope's only great moment, most his career, he was less fortunate

  • Hey who cares how u win them! I cheering really loud of Cope that day!

  • yeago cope

  • The Seagull hit the RADIATOR in 1991...

  • So many frustrations. What year was it when a seagull got in oil cooler?

  • This was about the most frustrating race I've ever watched. Derrik Cope wins the Daytona 500. Yet, the master of Daytona and restrictor plate races all together, rolls snake eyes again.

  • I remember watching this live in 1990. I hated Earnhardt at the time, but Derrick Dope wasnt much better. It only took a good 5 seconds for Ken Squier and Ned to notice Earnhardt was a hundred feet behind Dope.

  • Actually, that's what it seems like, the sound is behind the video by a few seconds.

  • I was gonna say the same thing myself. The audio and video wasnt synched up correctly

  • What really happened that time was a cut tire. Another of these sceneraios of Daytona and Earnhardt...they just seem not to like each other.

  • You can't see this in the video, but behind Turn 3 there's a grassy knoll.

    I'm just sayin'...

  • That was Dale's worst loss just two turns left thank god he got it in 98'

  • did you recorded this from Back in a Day???

  • No, this from NASCAR classics, basically a 2 hour condnsed verson of every Daytona 500 CBS showed from 1979-2000. But I got this clip from a website.

  • That's Karma for not agreeing to be in Days of Thunder. Rotten drivers deserve rotten luck. ;)

  • He didn't agree to be in a movie that really was inaccurate in terms of the sport. Good for him.

  • Days of Thunder is plenty accurate. Understand the movie before you question it.

  • No it really isnt.....not a bad movie thou but the movie's accuracy is lacking....Im still waiting for a NASCAR movie that is very accurate

  • I like Days of Thunder. May not be accurate, but it is a good movie. I guess Talladega Nights isn't really an accurate movie in the terms of the sport, but it is funny as heck if you ask me.

  • no its not. if days of thunder is accurate then there would be no such thing as a black flag
