mbargoman Its also now made in Texas so the Texas built ones will always be of better quality than the ones from Mexico long live the Arlington plant in Texas its made in the good old US of A !
what a sad fukn day.. drove by the ex truck plant an hour ago and im disgusted to see what GM did to oshawa and all the truck plant employees including most of my family, will always drive GM but not any garbage made in mexico.. R.I.P Oshawa truck plant
whatever you do don;'t apply at honda or toyota. For one they won't like you because you were union. ANd two you won';t believe how hard they work there. Few people over 40 can keep up the pace there. And toyota could care less because they know they have an almost endless supply of younger workers to exploit.
I only worked here for 2 years and the money was nice, But the people are what made the job for me. So many amazing, smart, and funny people there it was unreal. Thats the only thing i miss, the Friendships.
How can you compete with a country like Mexico that has there average worker earning $2.25 an hr to build trucks? We didnt lose this plant because of the numerous quality and productivity awards. Think about it!!
Your condescending comment about "our amigoes (sic) in Mexico".
The Mexican people didn't wake one day and decide to take your job.
I would lay the blame more with GM and their mismanagement and their eff-ups with being an 'HMO' carrying 5 billion US dollars a year in health benefits for a retired workforce. Those were legacy costs no one, not even Microsoft, could afford. It's not surprising that not expecting employees to contribute to their benefits bi-weekly caused finanicial crap.
Who said anything about it being Mexico's "fault" ?
If your looking to lay blame for the closing of Oshawa Truck than lay it at the doorstep of the Canadian Provincial and Federal governments and GM itself. You see ... GM is still in the truck business. The trucks that Oshawa has built for GM over the past 45 years will continue to be built ... in Mexico.
I was there, '84 thru '06 as we earned awards for safety, quality, productivity, energy savings, ISO ratings, and innovation, with an ever-shrinking workforce, meeting or more typically beating any benchmark or standard ever set for us by the company, industry, or market, and generating true wealth for the community, suppliers and the corporation, so if that's not enough...

It was like a funeral ... a very sad occasion but it was nice to see all the great friends you made while you worked there. We were a family.

It is really hard to believe. I don't think the occasion would put me in a festive mood.
