@jbmaru Hmmm... I don't know. I thought the FM chip was built into some cartridges like the FX chip for the snes but for sound. I didn't realize the Japanese Master System had the FM chip build in.
That's because here in Europe they kept the Japanese title, but didn't keep the original protagonist name, which was Thor in Japan. Our European version carried the replaced American name, Ali, which didn't make any sense with the The Story of Thor title not being replaced. Australia applies to the European things since it's also a PAL region.
in the genisis version its more cutesy and in the beginning its takes longer to get to the castle plus they labeled the shops, the music is faster, and you see fairies around queen eleanora.
Yea, the megadrive version was better and had more features, but that's to be expected isn't it? I think I talked about it a couple of times but this game is still fun to play through in it's won right.
Because it is the Magadrive. Everywhere else in the world it was called the Megadrive. It was renamed the Genesis only becouse there was another company who owned the rights to the name Megadrive in the US. That's why they had to change it for America.
Oh alright. Thanks for clearing that up. I'd seen that name a couple times, but I always heard people refer to it as Genesis, but I guess that's cause I live in the US.
The Master System version was definitely seen only in Europe and Australia, though the Brazilian folks also got it through Tec Toy. Neither the Japanese nor the North Americans got it.
I always knew that most Master System releaces didn't make it to the US as it was the kingdom of Nintendo at the time but I wouldn't have guessed that the Japanese wouldn't have gotten it.
the howl further you get the stronger the enemy and the more gold they give then you get better weapons (basicaly the creation of level up gameplay) of corse it couldnt actually have level up as mster system cartrages couldnt hold thet much data.
Well, not necessarily. If all the creatures had base stats that were multiplied/altered by the players level then they would only need to store base stats for one of each enemy and it would level up on the fly.
Say the formula was Health = health+player level x2. It would only have to compute it once when the enemy spawned and it would only take up as much cartrage space as the base stats.
I'm not shore if that is what is going on but it's possible and I think the Master System could handle it.
I've taken a look at it. The reason why I chose the SMS version is to show some of the grate games on the system. It may not be the definitive version but it is a solid port that deserves to be noted.
Good start to your let's play. Your commentary is entertaining. I'm actually impressed that for once a gaming hero swims and doesn't drown :-) Considering he wears armour it's quite a feat!
You've got a great idea here and I'm sure you'll get huge number of subscribers if the videos are done properly. With that said, I'd like to suggest a few changes for future videos if I may. 1) Check out FRAPS and Virtualdub for recording and editing your videos (no more cursor :D ). 2) Do it like the pros, record the video first then add the audio commentary as you watch your video , don't do both at the same time. 3) Stop humming the songs LOL. We want commentary not humming :D.
I love this game on the Genesis!! Thanks for playing it... never saw the graphic before... WOW!!

The music in the Master System is more better than the Genesis version!!
Where can we upload the soundtrack of the Master system version?

@FrodArk59 Umm, try searching for it on youtube. Otherwise I don't know.

Good graphics for the Master System. I wish there was a Game Gear version.

@jbmaru Wait, I thought there was one.
Disthron 1 year ago
@Disthron Lol, so did I... But maybe I just remembered The Dragon's Trap (MWII) on GG and confused it with MWIII.
Do you know if this game supports the extra FM chips of Japanese systems?

I loved that game. Though over here it was called Story of Thor..... I don't know why, I don't recall any other references to Thor besides the title.

Ah, so the main charecters original name was Thore. I guess that explaines the title then. Thanks for clearing that up

Why do some people call the Genesis "The Megadrive?"

That's understandable, I've even cough myself calling it the Genesis sometimes. Most of the really popular websites are US based.

...haha..you'd think Jesus would own the rights to the name 'Genesis'....

Is this the japanese version of wonder boy
Unrulyevil5 3 years ago
I don't think so. I mean all the text is in English. It might not have seen release in the US though as a lot of SMS games were not released there.
