@daver18qc Actually it's not just the Mk III golf that I've heard was unreliable, it's all the new Jetta, Passat and Tiguan(sp) models. People have a 2009 Passat that's been nothing but trouble, our Jetta has been a nightmare maintenance wise (all covered under warranty) two doors up the neighbors own a tuareg that's had tons of problems. Also every reliability survey I've looked at from 2008-2011 puts VW last.
Not to mention test drives with things leaking or broken already.

I drove a 300c and let me tell you, the handling is SHIT. I understand the charger is new and improved and all that, but if it's based off of a ancient Mercedes E-class platform even THEY no longer use, I sincerely doubt it handles all that great. Especially with a curb weight in the 4k region.

All motor trend is saying is that for your money the passat is better. sure you may think it's a gay car but come on guys. It's a great little car. Would I ever buy one? @mohammadazizeddin the big deal about the 2012 Passat is: 1 - it's made in USA at a time when real unemployment is over 20% and America is bleeding its last manufacturing jobs. and 2 - it is several grand cheaper than the old passat at a time when people are up to their eyeballs in debt. the judges made a wise decision. if the question was "best car" the winner would have to be a Porsche or a BMW but the question was "car of the year" ...

I highly doubt they put reliability as a category. Chrysler in general has made unreliable cars in the past and present, with the exception of the RAM. If I'm correct, Chrysler vehicles received below average reliability scores. Same as German cars, with the exception of Porsche coupes and convertibles. Sure Germans can make downright luxurious cars, but you try and put 200k on the engine and transmission; it's just NOT going to work.
This is the problem with electric cars. They can't even hold a charge to compete on the same level as conventional gas or diesel engine. Honestly, until if/when this is even happens, they shouldn't even be tested. Electric cars are a joke. I'm holding out for more diesels and hydrogen cars.

Wow... tie b/w a 4k lb tank that looks like shit and one of the worst looking VW sedans ever. My dad has a VW CC (passat coupe) and I can tell you that my Mazdaspeed 3 feels better made, from the way the doors shut to the overall interior despite the harder materials used, and lets not talk about performance. From the top cars they picked, the Audi A6 looked like the best pick

Everybody should have their own car of the year. We are Human Beings with the usual bias. I'm pretty sure I Wasn't the only person who decided what in the world was the Passat the winner for 2012 Car of the year. I Will admit that there were a few cars that should have been here... 2012 Nissan GT-R (Which won car of the year in 2009), Atleast SOME Cadillac, etc. You don't have to listen to these people to win your heart over this car because it's COTY. No... I'll stand by and make my own COTY!

Clearly Motor Trend Car of the Year does not mean car that an auto enthusiast would want.
Given that small list the 300 in SRT form would be the winner. How anyone in their right mind could put the Leaf in their top 10 list is beyond me.

@mohammadazizeddin the big deal about the 2012 Passat is: 1 - it's made in USA at a time when real unemployment is over 20% and America is bleeding its last manufacturing jobs. and 2 - it is several grand cheaper than the old passat at a time when people are up to their eyeballs in debt. the judges made a wise decision. if the question was "best car" the winner would have to be a Porsche or a BMW but the question was "car of the year" ...

I highly doubt they put reliability as a category. Chrysler in general has made unreliable cars in the past and present, with the exception of the RAM. If I'm correct, Chrysler vehicles received below average reliability scores. Same as German cars, with the exception of Porsche coupes and convertibles. Sure Germans can make downright luxurious cars, but you try and put 200k on the engine and transmission; it's just NOT going to work.

This is the problem with electric cars. They can't even hold a charge to compete on the same level as conventional gas or diesel engine. Honestly, until if/when this is even happens, they shouldn't even be tested. Electric cars are a joke. I'm holding out for more diesels and hydrogen cars.

@jonny5777 no, we have a different driving environment here in America. everything is a lot more open and bigger in terms of design and spacing. a rear impact in the streets of london is gonna be different than a rear impact in the streets of los angeles or new york. he isnt being a snob, hes confronting the reality of it. you, on the other hand, are being ignorant.

@maximus9401 thanks for your reply i don't believe i was being ignorant as I have driven in all 3 cities and as far as i am aware the car isn't solely sold to city dwellers and a rear impact is the same no matter what side of the atlantic you are on. Americans do believe they are better than people in other countries you may not but a lot do, why else would you have a world series of baseball and not invite the world?
