I'm having problem with my firefox that come with ubuntu..it is blocking other website..the only site that i can browse is google..,, while yahoo , youtube etc the stat always waiting... anyone know how to solve it..
open it in archive manager and go to the folder it's in click the file called firefox and run it from that folder or as on ubuntu forums how to install it from the Mozilla packaging.
The biggest contributor to the annoyance factor is that sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0 merely installs 'Gran Paradiso', a beta preceding the final build of firefox 3. I'm trying to figure out how the hell to install the real thing, all my browsers have decided to stop giving me sound D: lol
You forgot the fact that what you used isn't an Ubuntu-exclusive function, you just used Synaptic Package Manager; most popular Linux distros come with a package manager that functions exactly the same, including Fedora and OpenSUSE. Wish there weren't so many tards who buy into this though, just learn to compile a tarball manually or hell, use Kompile; it'll do it for you.
that's great - except this is the old alpha version "gran paradiso" -- not the latest beta 2! so technically it's easier to install firefox 3 beta 2 on WINDOWS than it is on ubuntu linux (and I'm a linux user).
OK just tested my recording program and the deal is off, my computer is too old for those stuff and it will take me something like 5 minutes to get it played out and my demo version of the recorder will only run for one minute max.
Please enlighten us how one terminal command is actually harder and slower then finding, downloading and running firefox through an installer. You poor misguided fool/troll.
Great, I look forward to the video. I tried looking for the windows build myself (the official one, rather than go through softpedia or whatever) and it took me 3 google searches and I scanned about 5 pages before I came across:
Where I suppose anyone like my grandmother would give up! :-)
I had to go another two directories deeper to find it, so I've spent about 3 minutes even before installing anything.
I can't install the windows build on Linux (well, theoretically I could and then run it with wine, but that's pointless!) but I know that there would be a lot of menus and clicking "next", "next", "next", "ok", "next" to go through along the way.
Oh, in fairness, I must say that the package was already downloaded in advance (it didn't need to fetch it again, just install it), and installing would take longer on a slower computer.
For a fair test, just the hunting the download link and showing the areas where human interaction is needed (the installer) would be a good thing to look at.
yeah i tried sudo apt-get install firefox, it didn't work for me

firefox3 comes with 8.10 you shouldn't need to install it anymore, you might want to put that in your vids info.

YET, I'm still on version 2.0.0.17 click 'help' then 'about firefox'

Yeh, but I would have guessed most non-Ubuntu users already know how to use their package managers :-)
You are right though that most distros do come with equally good or better package managers. (Arch/pacman FTW)
TopHatStuff 3 years ago
i would love to see how you could compile >:)

it'll give you only Firefox 3.0 Beat 5.
If you want to install the regular version, you have to install it either manually or using script
FrenchPride08 3 years ago
Mine installed fine on Slackware, just replace the firefox executable and put the library files into /usr/local/lib/firefox-3.0 .

I GET THIS PROBLEM AND I DONT NOW WAT 2 DO
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
Azer831 3 years ago
It's easy, run manually
$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
as the error tell you
ziz0u 3 years ago
then it says this
slik@slik-desktop:~$ dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege
slik@slik-desktop:~$

Read my comment properly: it contains a 'sudo' command.

Linux and firefox, do you need a better combo?
OmegaXalpha 4 years ago
Too right mate!
Have you tried Swiftfox? It's Firefox optimized for Linux - and it is *sweet*!

can't argue with that

Well, at least that's one way in which Linux is better then - the recording software is *free* :-)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
sorry but it still easier and faster in windows.
oh and please don't response to me in a childish windows sux linux rulz comment.
thedryfox 4 years ago
Go on then, post a video of windows. You'd have to google firefox, find the installer, run it, click next a billion times.
Please don't respond to me as if I'd respond to you in a childish way. You preempted the nasty tone of conversation yourself right there.
TopHatStuff 4 years ago
Easier for your grandmother maybe, thedryfox.

sorry if you got offended but sure i'l go for this challenge and soon will post a video response.

If you could somehow download and install it in windows quicker it would be very close.
redzion28 4 years ago
it took him about 25 sec i think i can do it
