I am a fan of punk music but I am a firm believer that if you are going to cover a song the performer must analyze what the composer is trying to convey with the song and THEN put their own twist on the song.

I do have to give these guys credit. It is a ballsy cover and the bass line is somewhat original but it contains no essence of the original meaning of the song.

When I perform this song I put every ounce of feeling and meaning into my trumpet and cary a conversation with my audience about the meaning of the song.

Yes this IS a punk cover, but even punk bands can put great meaning and emotion into their songs. Not every punk song has to be a nonstop attack to the face...

...This song holds such a nostalgic value to me as the first Jazz chart I ever memorized and this cover just absolutely kills it for me. Louis Armstrong and every other great Jazz performer that ever recorded this song is now either greatly offended or turning in their grave because of this cover.

And totalrecall49... how can you even say that this is a perfect cover? What is your background that you can make such a claim? Have you even studied jazz or its performers?...

I'm sorry.... I'm all for artist's representation of songs but this is my absolute favorite Jazz chart and this did absolutely nothing for me. They could have at least put some sort of dynamics in the cover of kept a bit of the melody.

The only reason that I found out that this cover existed was because there was a link to it off the original "All of Me" Wikipedia page and really I don't understand why this cover has its own Wikipedia page.

And the crap you said about "Every great jazz musician" being offended at this is obviously a completely over-the-top statement. The point of jazz is to play from your heart even if it flies in the face of convention. THAT is what every great jazz artist has done, and that is what Fat Mike--himself a student of jazz--has done.

The main part about the cover that made me angry though was the complete loss of the rhythm and feel of the song,but then again that is how punk songs are played.

It's like a solo over the changes...like a jazz solo...so for you to claim to understand jazz while not appreciating the inventiveness of what he did with this tune makes no sense to me. You probably got turned off by the harshness of his voice and didn't notice how brilliant his note choices actually are.
