hii i have an african grey she is 3 years old i think. but under her chest it is lighter grey she never plucks his self and her hair on her chest is very messy and every were. is it because she is still young or something Please Help Me People!!!
i love the "manly" voice !! he speaks so clearly. great video. i melt when my grey says my name..or asks me what i'm doing when she flies to me. great companions. thanks for the video
he always says ohhhhhh oooooo.. around 3:03 like he forgot some thoughts and he tryed to recover it .. amazing .. sound like his owner always forgot things in the trunk lol..
Do you have a video of you and tiger conversing...if not, can you make one?
I'm always interested in listening to the voice behind the bird. They're like living tape recorders with a mind of their own. Their voice reflects that of their owner.
In my case, my CAG seems to mimic my husband more than me. We're not sure if it's because he CAN mimic him better, or that he copies hubby to get the attn I give him. Does that make sense? Either way, Richard is very vocal, also.
No, no video. Altho Tiger's voice is my voice, he rarely talks to me. That's the reason I've made the CD's and DVD's you can find on eBay. It's a long story that you can read on his ebay ads. Just search for TigerBird in the ebay search box. When I got him back at 2 years old, he did not talk at all. But when you are listening to Tiger, you are listening to his perfect imitation of my voice...
hi i was just wondering i african grey is a good pet for me im 15 i love birds i no tons about them i just dont no the right one. I had a budgie before he just died little while ago of old age(I had since i was 4), I am realy good with them i trained the budgie(bob) to shake high five, come, free flight.. I only did with harness outside. he also new role over, he could say hello. he could also do eagle. From what i heard thats pretty good for budgie :p yah please tell me what u think
Reptilefan, please don't tell people how much money you have. It can be dangerous.
As for your budgie... that's a very long time for a budgie to live. This means that you took very good care of your bird and you should be proud...not only was he very healthy and happy, but he was very loved, and he knew it..You would be a very good parrot owner. [smile]
I'm typing this with my African Grey on my shoulder. We have such a great time together. He's a lot of work, but he's very much worth it.
We bought an african Grey "Ziggy" in september and he was born 12th may 2008, I know he's still very young, and he's whistling like crazy and tryin to say little words. But does anyone know what the average age of greys when they start to talk??
baby greys start vocalizing around 4 months. at 6 months they should be saying words you can understand. some greys may not talk for up to 18 months, so someone should not be discouraged if they don't start early. sounds like yours is right on track! someday he may be talking like TigerBird! Sure hope so! They are truly a joy to have around!
My two greys started at the age of 1. That's probably a little late for a first word but probably because there are two of them and don't feel the need to communicate that much.
just buying a grey will cost you twice that. throw in a few hundred more for a good cage. $600 won't go far. they're like having a small child that never grows up. they live 60 - 80 years. doing it right takes a fair amount of work. we haven't had a vacation in years... (but he IS worth it!)
Keep in mind that greys are experts in breaking out of cages. When I say expert I mean if you can see a way out then the bird can see a way out. I went through 2 good cages before I realized I had to clamp everything down. They are alot of fun and very smart. Mine has a 200 word vocab and says please, thankyou and blesses you when you sneeze.
Our guy makes up his own word by combining them.. Whoops!! and Uh Ooohhh!! Became Whoopoh! over and over..until he picked gibberish from my roomies daughter now it's "wouldja wouldja wouldja!" All day long.. Till the next sound! I could listen to these guys all day and never be tired of it! OHHH the hard days these guys have rescued me from!
The world famous Alex The Grey made up the word BeeWee when a new food was introduced to him that he thought looked like a Berry and a Kiwi. TigerBird says "Sprowley" which apparently is a combination of Sprout and Growley. We still don't know why he combined those two words. He likes his sprouts in the morning, and when I trim his toes he gets a little growley, so go figure! I heard Tiger practice the (new) word "juice" 30 times in a row. I was recording his audio at the time. Pretty cute!
I would only suggest that who ever workd with tier speak very clearly to him and he will pick it up. He isn't very clear when he "mimics" So sweet though ad thank you for rescuing him...
Tiger was rescued from a lady who neglected him. It's taken years to help get him over his psychological (not health) problems. Yes, his neck was a little bare in these vids, but it has grown back nicely and stayed that way. He chews off his tail when certain situations arise, but we've identified them and try to avoid them. His tail grew back fully after these vids were made, and he has left it alone (without bitters etc...) all year. It's taken 5 years to make that progress.
I get the same response with my bird. Kramer had zero feathers except for his head due to his first owners keeping him in a dark laundry room. Now he has just small bald spots under his wings. Every time people see him unfold his wings, I get asked why is he plucking. It takes a lot of work to undo the damage that uncaring or uninformed pet owners can do to parrots.
It's hard for me to understand why anyone would mistreat such magnificient animals... in some cases, i think the birds are actually smarter than the people who keep them! At least they speak better English!!!
he gets a bowl full of greens, fruits, vegies and crazy corn in the morning. we swap that out for a crock of seeds, nuts and a small box of raisins in the evening.
I suspect so. A lady with 'keets (as she called them) and other birds said her normally noisy house went dead quiet when she put the CD on. They all paid a lot of attention and were mainly trying to figure out where that new bird was! I've had other people tell me that their birds start talking back to the Companion CD. That disc has Tiger talking about EVERYTHING for 75 minutes. My guess is that if you use the training disc regularly, and the companion disc now and then, you will see results.
