  • paying 5 bucks at grocery store for veggies rolls. Glad to see I can save money and do it st home and for 5 bucks a lot more rolls to eat. I'm vegan and vegetarian if in unsupported places. Have u tried vids on using tofu or tempeh, etc? Will see website. BTW you no hippy by lush home...lol ;) !

  • I have started using short grain brown rice for my rolls...works really well. Also, sometimes I make sushi-in-a-bowl and just put all the rice and sliced veggies on the rice and sprinkle with sesame seeds and scissor clipped confetti of nori sheets. ginger and wasabi and tamari for seasoning. Lazy hippie sushi. :oD

    I'm eating 80-90 percent raw now so the vegan sushi is a real treat. I'll have to try subing the hemp seeds for the sesame seeds. sounds good.

  • I'm learning about nutrition in the meat cutting class at culinary school and those sushi rolls are very well balanced with complete proteins and a variety of vitamins. They look yummy too.

  • this is the first video of yours I have come across, I especially like the little bits of information you give about the equipment you use. Like the wooden rice bowl and the noiri sheets, it's good to understand more about what you are using than just how you use it.

  • @amafloro - you need a short grain rice, as it is a bit starchier (and therefore stickier) and will not fall apart the way medium or long grain does.

    I also wanted to know how I could be a vegan? I have had many attempts but seem to fail bcuz I love white meat and it so hard especially when everyone in my family eats meat!

  • It's probably a quarter cup of rice for a roll.

    As for becoming vegan, you can start with baby steps. For example, avoid eating meat one day a week, and then gradually increase the number of days per week. Also, going to vegetarian diet as opposed to vegan could be a great intermediate step. Most importantly, don't blame yourself for failing to become vegan overnight. Just know that you are in the right path, and that it requires knowledge and discipline to get there, which takes time. :)

  • @amafloro hey sup, I dont know if you alrready have an answer to your post cus its a little bit old, but use short grain rice or as americans call Cal-Rose Rice. The measure for the rice in each roll, Im not very sure but grab just half of the rice that your hand can keep, maybe 1/2cup or a little bit more.

  • @amafloro u use med rice and you need about a baseball size rice ball it up with you're hands and after making it into a baseball size rice add alittle more into it and Spread it on your Sheet of seaweed paper

  • this isn't sushi. it's kimbap.

  • Kimbap was adapted from Maki-zushi, which is sushi using nori as an exterior, rather than rice.

  • I'm a meat eater, but my aunt is a vegetarian, I have ate a vegan sushi roll before, and liked it alot. The only vegan thing I would never recommend is wheat grass juice (YUCK).. but I would like to try this recipe out if I can find the ingredients.. I may have to do some substituting though..

  • the whole point of sushi is the raw fish and the taste of the fish, rolls arent even that good its all about nigiri

  • It seems like you use too many ingredients and spices. Isn't sushi supposed to be simple and have very subtle flavors? It does looks delicious though.

  • i'm hip on this. i was just doing a search on how to make sushi, since today will be my first time. i really like the sound of the combination of ingredients and the brief but great tips you pack in here. i think i'll try to replicate what you did here to the T (oops... there's no T in sushi... oh well).

  • You should try California Rolls if you haven't. A lot of California rolls are made with imitation crab meat, so no worries if you're a vegetarian.

  • We actually met the inventor of California roll - chef Tojo in Vancouver BC. But if you want real veggie sushi, you need to avoid imitation crab meat - it's just all kinds of fish scraps put together, which is not a vegetarian option unless it is some kind of soy substitute.

  • ..It's fish scraps! :O I've been eating it all this time, and I don't eat fish. That's a bummer, haha. Well today I made kimchi, egg, and cucumber roll. Try that, kimchi has anchovies in it though, or "fish sauce" from vietnamese cuisine.

  • Seaweed is not fish, it's a sea plant like a lettuce. It's packed with nutrients and vitamins, and it is very healthy for you. When you toast the seaweed a little bid in a dry pan, it makes it crunchy and delicious.

  • Let the pan rest for about 10 minute. If you have a gas stove switch it to minumum heat and switch it off after 5 minutes. Then let it rest another 5 minutes.

  • Rice cooking: If you have no rice cooker use a (water cooking) pan not a fry pan. Cover the rice with water so that the water stands about 1 inch or a bit more above the rice. Let it cook until the water has completely evaporated (stir frequently). If you use a ceramic or electric stove turn off the power but let the pan on the heating field. Cover the pan tight with aluminium foil. You want to use gloves (heat).
