  • It`s sad that opel/vauxhall would not dare to make anything like this. OPC things just don`t have the charestics

  • it might be fast but its butt ugly. it doesnt even look like lotus

  • I wish we had cars like this available in the states, because many of our performance cars suck.

  • Lotus need to bring back this model .

  • Your vid is a favorite on Panama

  • I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!!!!!!

  • my dad used to have a lotus carlton i fucking loved it excellent car very fast we raced porsches

  • 0-100mph-0 in 15 seonds pretty damn good for the early 90's consider that the ultima gtr 500hp v8 racecar does 0-100-0 in 9.9 seconds

  • @xxViolentGamerxx

i thought he said 0-100mph in 11 seconds?

  • @phinch1 serach lotus carlton on wikipedia

  • @xxViolentGamerxx

ill never give wikipedia any attention, its not always right

  • @phinch1 well everything i have ever checked has been right.prove to me why its not correct anything

  • @xxViolentGamerxx

you are kidding right? you do know that anyone can edit wikipedia?

  • @phinch1 yeah im sure someone has gone their to edit the lotus carlton page LMFAO

  • @xxViolentGamerxx

or more to the point in which you obviously couldnt grasp, the "anyone" could have written the page, and got the facts wrong/mistyped..... wikipedia isnt fact

  • @phinch1

and if thats doesnt get your little brain firing away, click on the next video for the TOP GEAR LOTUS CARLTON where he even says 0-100 11.5, id rather believe TOP GEAR and this motor review channel than fucking wiki an body and edit fucking pedia this duscusion is now over

  • @Ricardo1e93 Omega is actually the MODEL of the Opel original car (Opel Omega, first released in 1986). Vauxhall just took Opel's original car and change the steering side (and velocimeter to MPH), "creating" the Vauxhall Carlton. Back in 1989, Opel, Vauxhall & Lotus belong to General Motors and they decided to send Omegas and Carltons to Lotus to "see what they could do". Lotus made the project, and in 1991 two models were released: the Opel Lotus Omega and the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton...

  • ..pff..looks like dead Opel or Vauxhall..give me Testarossa.. :D

  • I have this car in Gran Turismo 5. I drift in it and its beast! i got like 565hp in the game with this car.its beast. I love this car..idk why o.o

  • I dream every day this car ...

It has to own at least he had to steal or hijack

  • @Ricardo1e93 no no no omega gave the carlton to lotus to tune as a joint job, so its the lotus carlton and the omega carlton

  • @Ricardo1e93 GM owns Lotus from that time. Original Omega/Carlton came in 1986. 4 years later in 1990 year GM division ask Lotus to make a sport version of Omega, and Lotus Carlton/Omega there are very few of them now originally produced 950 cars. But most of them in 90's are crash and wrecked. Now it's a 400-500 cars left. Back in the days this was faster than M5 3.6/3.8 and Mercedes 500E. Even Alpina B10 can handle the acceleration. Simple: The Lotus Omega is like M5 for BMW or 500E for MB

  • it looks understated and somber, and goes like the clappers. I cant imagine a more charming car :D

  • super sleeper, and it may be the only lotus who's model name doesn't start with an e

  • @jakethreesixty cortina

  • My dads tax evading business partner had one of these, and he was a wanker. Still, it's an awesome car

  • Talk about a sleeper, looks like a $2000 car but goes like a $70,000 one

  • People how about this: I sell my Mercedes 600SEL and Audi S2 and buy this one. What a f...car... I luv it

  • @Mercedes600SEL what? are you selling a mercedes 600SEL and a Audi S2 to buy a Lotus Carlton? omg..

  • Beast

  • My first car on Gran Turismo PSP :D

  • I like these cars... alot but they're almost too precious now to own and enjoy. Many bits for them aren't available or cost the earth and there are so few about that you'd feel so guilty about getting one up to 160k miles. Now, you can get a 370bhp or 400bhp Jag XJR for about half the price of one of these and use it everyday without the guilt

  • damnit somebodys allready said about the 521tr being flat not v, anyway he sure makes an emphasis on the "V" when hes saying it

  • If it wasn't for my dad it would have been the Lotus Senitor. GM wanted their UK flagship car to wear the badge but the wheel base was too long to make the car reasponsive.

  • @TheLiquidKnight

    and your dad is?

  • @lewis72 One of the design team who worked on the 104 project.

  • Testarossa is a flat 12!

  • This could have an ancestor vid: with the VXR8

  • My dad had one when I was young, it wasn't a Lotus though it was a base spec K reg carlton 1.8 petrol in white, plastic hub caps, manual sunroof and an elecric ariel - good times!

  • My dad had one when I was born, I wish I was old enough to have memories of it

  • I had the pleasure of driving one of these back in the day, used to go out in it daily, it's still one of my favourite cars to this day, fuck ya scoobys & skylines & ya evos, the lotus carlton is a real car..... RAW POWER!

  • Awesome looking car, i sugest to test the Lotus Esprit next...

  • What kind of name is Carlton for a car?

  • @idontcare80

It was only called Carlton in Great Britain. In the rest of the world where it was sold it was called the Lotus Omega. It was based on the German Opel Omega, which was sold as the Vauxhall Carlton in the UK, doesn't change the fact that is was Opel designed.

  • @idontcare80

    What's wrong with it?

  • Raced one in my 325i back in the days, we both took off at the lights, 1...2... and woooph it was over like a flash, took off like a scalded cat. Incredible car

  • Testarossa was a flat 12, not a v12

  • @flimsyshow had to double check that one, never thought ferrari done flat engines, never though anyone done flat 12s

Those things musta sounded like the god of thunder himself!!

  • @chrisbarlow01

    It's "did", not "done".

  • @lewis72 Thanks for correcting my spelling mistake genius, just out of curiosity why did you not correct me on "thought" instead of "though" while you were at it?

  • @chrisbarlow01

    I was being lenient.

  • @flimsyshow Technically it had a 180 degree V12

  • @Luktarros that would make it an opposed engine then making it flat, just like any porsche or subaru etc

  • @gnamus Not really. In a boxer engine (as in a Porsche or Subaru) the pistons i each "pair" travels in opposed directions, as the fists of two boxers. Whereas in a V-engine (like the Testarossa) the pistons in a pair always move in the same direction. Not the best description maybe, but I'll bet you get it =)

  • @Luktarros

    but a 180 degree V is a straight line !!

    :-)

  • those hood scopes ar sooo RS Cosworth ...

  • Review the stratos

  • Interstingly in Australia our 1988 to 1997 Holden Commodore's look alot like a face lifted variation of this this car. Ours was powered by a low rev (ie shitty) Buik V6 motor though. This era Commodore later evolved on to become the Vaxhaul Monaro/VXR.

  • @turbillb Funny - as soon as the reviewer said Vaxhaul I noticed the commodore shape immediately. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't the same chassis and front end.

  • @turbillb OK just did 10 seconds worth of research and now see that the Carlton is the UK Commodore. Oops.

  • Stunning car ! I`d love to have one !

  • brilliant

  • obvio que é um omega, a chevrolet batizou com um nome e a vauxhaul ("chevrolet" europeia, por assim dizer) o batizou com outro nome.

Mas essa versao da lotus é simplesmente animal.

  • Omega ....

  • para mim isto é um omega !!!!!!!

  • I didn't get what the Carlton was all about.

"When you find yourself on a straight long enough to do this" - do what? I'm confused

  • @Lolzilol123 - if you didn't get what the Carlton was about, you weren't part of the market they were aiming at.

  • @DroverChicago What I was trying to do in my previous post was ask this: What were they trying to do with it? What market were they aiming at?

  • Gotta love the headlamp wipers.

  • Yes !

  • legend

  • a big step up in the quality of the acual video, fantastic intro really good job

  • @245thegreat Or you're just talking out of your ass and making no sense.

  • An Omega in an Omega, nice touch ;-)

  • I prefer old school cars, because they are basic and have less technology controlling everything. It is all up to your skill to control the vehicle.

  • Holden Commodore on ACID!

  • The Ferrari Testarossa a V12?No,the Ferrari Testarossa has a FLAT 12......

  • @35yearoldboy Actualy, a 180 degree V12.

  • I have 2 admit i had 2 do some "googeling" after ur reply bcoz i was like "???" I didn`t know the 1 crank/2 crank-thing,or that a "flat" engine in fact could still be a V.But now i do:) Live and learn:)

  • Very good for a pretty heavy car .

  • it looks shit

  • now what's the difference between this car and the Alfa Romeo 75

  • @jp0484

    Shit loads of horsepower?

  • Much better production Autocar well done!!

  • the fucking ENGLISH way of power! YES !

  • @MrGTR1988 Putting a couple of turbos on a car is hardly the "fucking ENGLISH way". It's pretty much the only choice if you want the maximum power from an engine.

Even in drag racing most record holders - even the big V8 ones - are twin turbo.

  • You mean a flat-12 Ferrari...

  • great video

  • awesome

  • Great car and very rare. I see more veyrons than lotus carltons.

  • Next: The Original ///M3

  • Next: Audi RS2 :]

  • What roads are those, I want to drive them!

  • Comment removed

  • this holds the record for the fastest 4 door saloon

  • @245thegreat it hasn't for a long time

  • @justblaze3417 bullshit

  • @245thegreat Rapide, Panamera, CTS-V are all faster off the top of my head. An M5 without restrictor would also easily be, same can be said for Mercedes 4 doors.

  • @justblaze3417 lotus carlton doesn't have restrictions so your wrong, if a car is built without restrictions and is road legal to anyone, it makes it faster. anyone can drive it, not anyone can get a racing licence. my point is proved.

  • @245thegreat I have no idea what you're talking about.

  • @justblaze3417 your not that clever that's why

  • do bmw m635csi next or the e9 csl or m1 (mid-engine) or 507, yeah...

please do the bmw 507 next, please....

  • Fantastic video, more heroes more ancestors!

  • Top speed 190mph!

  • Love the Heroes films. Could you do one on the Integrale Evo?

  • It looks like it's straight out of Ronin, I love those classic mid-90s sports sedans.

  • What about unsung heros? GTI-R Anybody? That was faster than a Testarossa too.

  • no seatbelt?

  • more heroes please autocar

  • This guy is good!

  • For the record, the Porsche 944 Turbo was also just as fast as the Ferrari testerossa, despite it being a 4 cylinder single turbocharged car with 220Bhp (250 later models).

  • @hosrom

yessir, i don't know how porsche did it. it manages to be faster than a C5 corvette, i think the 951 is underrated

  • @Turbulence654321 I got one, my first car actually, when i was 20, had to get 4 part time jobs and took me 3 years (all this which in college) to get it.

  • @hosrom

that's determination! i'm 20 atm, and Im saving for a nice old 930 Turbo, it's my favorite car for under 30K

  • @hosrom Porsche > Ferrari

  • @carguy88 -- with huge turbos

  • @carguy88 My opinion, off course :)

  • Testarossa has a flat 12, and not a V12 as stated by the guy in the video

  • @porschezappa True

  • @porschezappa testarossa has a 180° V12

dont ask me whats the difference between that and a Boxer/ Flat 12

    but there is one

  • come to Australia, these things are everywhere only with a "Holden" badge slapped on them.

  • @UltimateDud but minus the turbos

  • WHAT ROAD IS THAT?

  • @wasup23tube I live really near that place, it's near a town called Rhayader in the Elan Valley

  • great,just great video

  • Thats a pretty epic car....

  • Pure British Engineering I Say

  • the best saloon ever made

  • @nonickname100 M3 The Best Saloon. That's just my oppinion.

  • @TheAdN1000 which M3? They only made Saloons in E36 and E90 variants

  • What a hero. I remember first stumbling into the Lotus Carlton, thanks to Gran Turismo 4. What a cute looking beast.

  • Looks kinda like a volvo... with those headlight wipers... But the it was really a good landmark...

  • It kinde of look old? hmmm..

  • @OliverTangen Its because it is old! lol but it was ballistic for its day.

  • @OliverTangen it IS old... they came out before you were born

  • It is quite an ugly landmark car though...

  • @Michaisi

Like a lot of performance cars of the era it's looks are more of a thuggish bruiser than delicate and pretty.

  • @Bumphuk I agree and I like that kind of looks but the Escort Cossie was from that era and I believe it was much better looking

  • @Michaisi One of my all time favourites!
