  • I would like to see him drunk... Whataman

  • @WilPowerMom could not disagree more. you say the irish are better at british than the british? come on.

  • fuck i love the toole !!!!

  • peter o toole whata legend!

  • No prisoners!

  • Damn and he is a diabetic!

  • Man. . . the Joker has seen worse days, hasn't he?

  • He featured as a food critic in the 2007 film ratatouille

  • He sounds like Patrick Stewart of Star Trek.

  • one of the most btful speaking voices ever

  • "It distresses us to return work which is not perfect" lol, awesome

  • So we BOUGHT THE BAR.

  • Whoa! His elocution is impeccable!

  • @Deel2506 Of course his elocution is impeccable - he's Irish! We Irish speak English better than the Brits. That's why Irish actors are cast in lead roles of British characters (Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry the VIII, Richard Harris as Dumbledore, .......!) But forget the elocution - gotta love that Irish wit, right? :)

  • @WilPowerMom then explain the Boston accent...

  • When Peter says granddad at 1:40 is he saying he was shocked at being a granddad or was he referring to something else? I was a little confused by that remark.

  • @chinchillaluver20 He was talking about when he found out his girlfriend was pregnant with his child when he was age 50.

  • A year later- BAHAHAHAHAHA! - He died.

  • swag

  • Shakespeare.

  • Despite all the years of alcohol abuse, he is still sharp and very clever. Imagine just how clever he must have been as a young man, before the brain cells started dying off. He remembers all his old stories of his misadventures and enjoys them as much as anyone else, which is why you have to love him. He is one of an age when people lived non-apologetically.

  • Pissed........and thats fuckin sweet.

  • Lawrence of A!!!

  • Hilary Swank has two Oscars, Cuba Gooding Jr has an Oscar, Robin Williams has an Oscar... Peter O'Toole does not have an Oscar.

  • @Danazawa He does have a Lifetime Achievement Oscar, which is even bigger honor then an Oscar for a single performance.

  • @Stranglehold432 Yes. Lifetime achievemnt is rear. But Peter deserve every one!

  • Anton Ego

  • GOOD GOD. he use to be the most gorgeous man to ever breath. but he hasn't lost one ounce of his charm, and never will!!!

  • these are the fastest 10 minutes in my entire life...he is delicious...great actor...a crazy old man...wich i would love to have as a grandfather

  • O'tooles nationality seems ambiguous to say the least ,apparently he 'claims' not to know where he was born - Connemara ,Ireland or Leeds , England yet he was certainly in England from the age of 1 onwards; so whether it suits his pretensions or nay, culturally he is English.

  • @flerb nice of you to want to claim him . . . but he was born in Connemara, Galway, Ireland. The house is still there. He moved to Leeds when a baby with his parents and returned every summer to Ireland. He then returned more full time on and off all his life.

  • @Tonyo1221 All you've done is repeat what I said, the fact theres a family house in Connemara is irrelevant.

If O'toole truly does claim 'not to know' (source wiki) then it proves no more than that Connemara has an enthusiastic tourist board. So he' returned every summer.' did he ? What when he was 2,3,4,5,6,.....!?- I've been to France 'on and off ' but I'm not culturally French.Or do you assert that your culture/nationality is based upon a place of birth you can't even remember?

  • @flerb All I'm saying is he was born in Ireland . . . your talking about "culturally" . . . well "culturally" with a name like O'Toole what culture do you think he is? Anglo? Anglo saxon? or here's a possibility . . . IRISH?? O'Toole?? Get real dude . . .

  • @Tonyo1221 Your confusing culture with genetics. Seamus O'Murphy was born in London, his Grandfather told him tales of how his own grandda came over in 1850 to escape the 'the Great Hunger' and married a local lass Jane Bull. Their sons followed suit marrying local lasses. What nationality, genetically is O'Murphy? He's 97% 'English'!.

Of course thats one end of the scale but it proves the point: The sexist arrangement distorts the statistical reality - surnames do not prove ethnicity.

  • @flerb Genetics are your DNA make up, ie do you have French parents, Irish Parents or English Parents? Those are Genetics. If your born in say Ireland, and raised in say England you can claim your culture as English . . but it doesnt change the fact that you were born in Ireland and are Irish.

Apart from that, I never heard O'Toole identifying himself as anything other than Irish. I never heard him interviewed where he identified himself as English.

  • @Tonyo1221 A] Yes I know what genetics are mate, I was simply pointing out that your surname proves next to nothing about your ethnicity .. ie the name O'Toole doesn't make somebody Irish. And birthplace + nationality aren't automatically the same thing either , as countless Brits born in India, Africa Hong Kong etc show...

  • @Tonyo1221 ...B] I'm not saying hes NOT legally Irish I'm just highlighting the eye-raising ambiguities and saying that IMO he cannot - whether he wishes to or not, deny being culturally a product of both England and Ireland .(Though I concede I should have been more clear and said "whether it suits his pretensions he's culturally Anglo--IRISH (i.e not just English)" in the first place. {As I am myself in fact.)

  • yea i agree Ben7368

  • whenever i'm in a bad mood, i just watch this interview. classic.

  • I just rewatched How to steal a Million, woahhhh his voice really hasnt changed

  • letterman got smacked around like a bitch

  • Man I laughed several times here.

  • David Letterman.. you are a terrible interviewer.

  • @rosasmellshaha You must be joking. Letterman is the best in the biz. Peter and Dave together are truly brilliant. O'Toole speaks so highly of Letterman and that is high praise indeed...O'Toole is a tough customer who rarely appears on chat shows.

  • the big O.

  • Comment removed

  • I love it when he said "Going on the lash!" Peter O'Toole your my hero

  • Letterman is usually a buffoon at interviewing, but here at least he knows a class act when he sees one. Phew! To wit, no one does it better than O'Toole.

  • @jackbestill Get off it...Letterman is universally adored and respected.

  • @KellyGreen5555 Universally? Hahahahahahaha

  • @jackbestill Yeah, look it up.

  • He's glorious !

  • Peter O'Toole doesn't really care about the Honorary academy award he'd prefer to get an academy award for portraying a character instead of one for his career

  • Peter O'Toole one of the finest actors that ever came from the UK

  • @slash4689 Born:

    Peter Seamus O'Toole

August 2, 1932 in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland

  • @spooner2020 my mistake i got caught up my admiration for him as an actor

  • @slash4689 No worries! Here's a quote from the legendary Richrad Harris "When I'm in trouble, I'm an Irishman. When I turn in a good performance, I'm an Englishman." It's true and you can watch him say this in an interview on you tube. If I find it I'll send it on!

  • @spooner2020 lol awesome :)

  • @spooner2020 These words are priceless....Thanks for making me very painful night not so bad....Cbono

  • @spooner2020 Is that in the Republic of Ireland? Because that would explain why he hasn't been KNIGHTED ALREADY!!!!

  • @martythetickler O'Toole is of the same ilk as Richard Harris who was offered a knighthood but refused. Harris said "I will bow to no man or woman". Irish yes :))

  • the guy is straight pimp. the guy has partied more in one night than i'll ever do in my life

  • What a legend! love this guy :)

  • "so we bought the bar"............... BRILLIANT

  • You can tell O'Toole's totally plastered :)

  • LOL 02:27

  • AWWWWWW love him, he's so old now! <3

  • God, he looks frail....

  • @martythetickler, that's what everyone says before he kicks their ass. :)

  • I love to have a drink with this guy. He's awesome.

  • Ha ha. he is very funny, isn`t he. The last hellraiser...

  • Vote up if you would like to see him as Marcus T. Cicero.

  • He's one of my fave actors and has done some many great roles, his accent is cool too.

  • i fucking love his outfit. he reminds me of my grandfather

  • Top 9 male actors all time (no order): Gable, O'Toole, Grant, Brando, Tracy, Stewart, Newman, Bogart, McQueen.

  • I'm sorry but how can Sandra Bullock have an Oscar but this man is without one?

  • Nothing like an Irishman to tell a great story. Or several of them!

  • omg lolololol, gotta liove this man!

  • Listening to Peter OToole reading ANYTHING literally anything is an amazing experience. He's a true actor capable of richly interpreting every word, either it belongs to a poor or fab. script.

  • I love how the audience seems to laugh more at the awkward pauses than at the actual funny things that are said. What's great is that I'm sure Peter is creating these pauses somewhat on purpose, just to not put the interviewer at ease, and that Dave does not get aggravated by them but continues on unaffected! :)

  • Hehe this was not an easy interview, in fact probably one of the most awkward that Letterman has ever conducted, but he pulled it off nicely, it's lovely seeing these two interact.

  • I want this played at my Funeral when i die!!!!!!

  • peter o'tooles acting in night of the generals was nothing short of mind blowing. he kind of reminds me of david bowie

  • Both his first and last name is slang for penis

  • want a gentleman he is, after the the late great Tony curtis has passed today there are'nt many true legends like Peter left

  • Notice how letterman quicky defers any personal questions, whats that all about?

  • @RedDragonJack He's a hypocrite.

  • knowing how HOT he was... is it weird that i still wanna... uhmm u know..

  • @marikitna That image is going to give me nightmares for years.

  • O'Toole is the kind of guest that make a talk show. People that have stories to tell, who have lead interesting lives, made something of themselves, and are able to put these experiences into coherent sentences. Compare this episode to Snooki's fist pump... good grief!!

  • He looks like a stiff breeze could blow him over. :O

  • @martythetickler Do you know how old he is? The body aging is inevitable, but his mind is still sharp and that's all that matters.

  • @skydark He's 78 now, so he would've been 75 then.

  • He's amazing. He looks rather like a ghost but the voice remains the same. A marvel of the english language

  • O'Toole is the man. One of the last greats to stand in front of a camera.

  • god i love this man.

  • he is halarious

  • Fabulous epitaph he's chosen!

  • his timing is awesome. a true actor.

  • God bless you Peter!

  • What an absolute legend this man is.

  • Sandra Bullock has an oscar & Peter does not.

    Someone explain.

  • @ben7368 its fucking wring is what it is, the man in a legend and the movie scene wouldnt be the same without Peter

  • @ben7368 boobs

  • @ben7368 He does. He has had that golden statuette for the last 8 years.

  • @HalfLifeHalfDead think its a lifetime achievement one, don't think he ever actually won a best actor one

  • @ben7368 He hasn't. But the life achievement award IMO is even a bigger deal than the best actor one :)

  • @ben7368 Not to mention...Cher, Kevin Costner, and Cuba Gooding Jr., 'winners'....and Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock.....not.

  • @ben7368 OMG.. i didnt realize..thats insane :(

  • @ben7368

Even Cher has got an Oscar....CHER!!!!

  • @ben7368 , worry not, He will always be remembered while Bullock is but a passing wind.

  • @ben7368 Don't say that! He won an honorary oscar! A career achievement!

  • @ben7368 Because Peter was in the competition with the actors who gave the greatest performance in their lifetime, while Sandy was in competition with precious

  • @ben7368 the world is dogshit

  • @ben7368 Clearly since this is the truth the Oscar lost its recognized worth long before Bullock took the pained trophy.

  • @ben7368 he got an honorary oscar.

  • He may be a "legend" and all that but I think his Co-star might have appreciated if her had mentioned HER name as well when talking about the film , sheesh !

  • What a voice!

  • i put on the captions on during this video and when david said ladies and gentlemen heres peter o toole the captions said later gun owners fear o toole. LOL

  • THE ACADEMY AWARDS MEAN NOTHING...Peter O'Toole is the perfect example for that statement. A BRILLIANT, AWE-INSPIRING, GORGEOUS actor who is the last of a dying breed. He is also one of the funniest, sweetest men I've ever seen. bless you peter! <3 <3 <3

  • omg, he is stil very lovely! :)

  • Is it so wrong to love a man who'se old enough to be your grandfather?

  • @nestersg No if it's Peter O'Toole :)

  • Is it so wrong to love a man who'se old enough to be your grandfather?

  • @nestersg its wrong to picture yourself suckling on his balls

  • As his great character said in the very funny movie "My Favorite Year"-"I'm an Movie Star-not an Actor!"(But in Mr. O'Toole's case he was most certainly both.)

  • i just saw "how to steal a million", he was great in that!

  • What`s the intro song?

  • "Venus" by Shocking Blue. An homage to the name of his film at the time, "Venus". ;-)

  • @BlackenedForLife the songs name is venus

  • O'Toole....is the O 'BEST

  • @gpk1027 yes LOL perfct

  • O'Toole, the legend! :D

  • 2 legends together on one stage.....i'd rather hang with P.O. than D.L., but they both are outstanding entertainers.

  • 5:19 is my favourite moment

  • I would like to shake his hand more than anything in the whole world!!! My greatest hero!!!

  • This guy is amazing. If I were to have a version of "Superman", he'd look more likePeter O'Toole than some blue caped mannequin/acrobat.

    Great clip from' Venus'.

That was a fantastic bit of physical comedy acting for a person of ANY age!

Sharpe mind , razor wit , generous , gracious, down to earth.

I hope his life is as enjoyable as it seems. I've received much & often (but still not often enough) from the talents & intelligence of his gifts. His performances are rich, deep & poignant.

    Thanks

  • O'toole is awesome. He's just having a good time.

  • venus is good. worth seeing. check it out.

  • I know him :D , kate o'toole is a family friend of ours :DD .

  • Cuba Gooding Jnr. won a Oscar, Peter O'Toole didnt.

Terrible shame, but he doesn't care.

Splendid actor, and a true gent....

  • Peter O' Toole has been screwed.

  • @orient1961 Why do you go for cuba gooding jnr. There have been far worse acts that have won the oscar. His was actually oscar worthy.

  • "Not too late, about fourish." damn man is pimp!!!

  • Grand daddy of heavy drinkers.

  • the crowd is dying of laughter, fuck off

  • Well, I see they`ve managed to master the difficulties of English vernacular in Count Dracula land.

These hyped up talk show audiences laugh at anything on cue, that`s the kind of crowd that turns up for these bashes.

If O`toole`s going to turn up for them the hosts should ask some 1/2 decent questions of this extraordinary artist, & pay him the respect he deserves by giving him the full hour, rather than doing the same old silly 10 minute (count it) tired funny story routine.

  • @kcirdrab You could live 500 years, your stories would still not reach the greatness of O'Toole's.

  • An absolutely mightily charming man.

  • 8:21 is hilarious

  • He sat on the table next to me at The Ivy once. We both left the restaurant in pieces. As we were both leaning against the wall outside we looked at each other and smiled. Great great man. Love him to bits.

  • 8 times he has been nominated for an Oscar, and has never got it. One reason why, I won't be watching the Oscars, ever.

  • Last of a glorious race of comedians gone forever. Fences with Letterman with such wit and elegance! Put most of young actors in his place and what do you have? Shallowness and intellectual poverty.

  • Very well said, my friend. Today's actors are all about the gym and protein shakes. They focus so much on their physical appearance to try and make up for what they are truly lacking: talent.

  • omg, i hadnt heard and seen him since Lawrence of Arabia, this guy's voice is epic!! its so mesmerizing hahahah omg

  • 10.44 now that is how you shake a mans hand. what a legend

  • O'Toole is pure perfection!

  • How this wonderful man never won an Oscar outright is beyond me. Such style, talent and wit. A national treasure!

  • I would love to drink and listen to Mr. O'Toole all night long.

  • Hell yes!

  • He was great in the movie 'Murphy's War'.

  • Oh Yeah 8:30...Peter is great !

  • what a legend, may he live forever

  • Pete was muthafuckin' pimp as the pope on the tudors.

  • He's Irish, raised in England. And one of the richest voices I know. Beautiful!

  • He's IRISH as Irish can be. Raised in Leeds.

  • No, he's Irish.

  • he's simply the best - he, burton, olivier, guiness - too many to mention - you can't top them -

  • His tombstone made me laugh!..he's a great guy..loved all his films..and Venus..he has a spark in him that is rare and not many actors achieve...thanx 4 the vid!
