  • I'll look for it next time I go to town.

  • it's funny.. Econned mentions that economics was originally called 'political economy'... which is the subtitle of Karl Marx's Das Kapital. ... reading Keyne's statement kind of blew me away. the attempt to force reality to fit models (instead of the other way around), while ignoring the 'man on the street'... reminds me of communism for some reason..

  • @phdecora Just a comment about communism. It was orginally understood to mean worker's control over the factories (that's where you start). The totalitarian Soviet called themselves communist for propaganda reasons, and the western capitalist societies, especielly the US, gladly agreed (for opposite reasons; to defame communism). The term has over time been so evacuated of content that it means nothing now. It's pretty much just an empty curse word. Better to avoid terms like this imo.

  • It will not only want you to question corrupt authority, it will help convince you that shedding it is the only viable alternative, lest serfdom is your idea of freedom.

  • I am going to buy the book tomorrow.

  • Yves Smith's blog is wonderful. She is a great writer and a solid thinker. Most importantly, she knows her stuff inside and out. Entertaining promo video. Read the book.

  • Without reading the book, this is just 2 minutes of well-done propaganda. Send it to your friends and family and let them decide whether they want to read the book and go beyond the propaganda.

  • Wish there was a version of this without the "buy this book" piece so prominent at the end. I'd send it to all my friends and family.

  • Without the book, it is just 'propaganda'.. in that it doesn't contain hard information.

It is good at getting across the impulse of the book, however. If this video didn't include the book advertisement, your family would be left thinking "uh oh," without any recourse for learning the 'how' that will make them better informed and less afraid. If you want to scare them, just show them the video before the book piece. If you want to help them understand, buy them the book. She's a great writer.
