I used your video to learn this method yesterday, and knit a newborn baby hat. I have an interchangeable needle set, and it's nice to not be limited by the few DPNs I have. Thanks so much!
This is my preferred method for making a tube. It allows me to use a cable needle longer than the circumference of your item. Socks, hats, mittens; all are easier with this method and I don't have to have a wide variety of cable needle lengths.
Nothing wrong with the other methods - double pointed needles or using two shorter cable needles. Just use whatever makes the knitting most enjoyable for yourself. There are no knitting police!

What would you use this for?
I use a magic circle for crocheting, but this seems like a lot of effort.
I don't want to be rude, just curious about what instance this would be useful.
