These pieces and the artist's mind amaze me. That last painting she was talking about with the mirrors, it really struck a chord, it was like looking into yourself. That centre mirror facing right at you, empty, with all the versions of your self around it, yet you still don't know what you truly look like, and who you REALLY are. It's simply brilliant.
i see so her mind does the same thing to her as it does to the scared child backed into a corner in my mind my understanding is much smaller and i could be wrong considering most of the gruesome thoughts ive had i dont know why theyv been there maybe if i met this woman she could teach me about myself but alas it is but a fleeting dream luckily ive been blessed with the ability of repression of thought to survive the days
Personally, I can connect with that person on so many levels. The way she describes her isolation and her thoughts and the way she sees admired people, also the art itself expresses that.
I am certainly not nearly as experienced as she, but I can see my art turning out similar to hers. That is also why I'm just as curious to find out how she can suppress the self-consciousness of such meaningful, expressive work.
Yes, it's weird, but I want to see more. Her artwork is inspiring!
nice to know that Im not the only one that draws morbid things, She seems like a amazing person to chat with, Id love to sit and have tea with her! her work is amazing! 6:40=my fave!
I find myself impressed with the way the cuts scars were done. . .why I've found it possible to do a fairly good imitation of blood when drawing on say thte computer--get a good shade of red etc--I like doing ceramics but I haven't yet had any blood red glaze. . .of course even if I had a glaze that could turn out like that, it could certainly turn out a different color. . .but if I act on the idea of "blood cuts", why that's a good means of expression, thank you for the idea. . .

Incorrectly titled video. This is not abstract art. I also find the constant zooming in and out to be distracting. Better to pan across the image to show detail and then perhaps use stills of the full images.
The title of the video does not refer to the "abstraction of the human form" in the manner of, say, Picasso. The title is "Abstract Art," and abstract art is art that does not depict objects in the natural world, but uses colour and form in a non-representational way. One can argue indefinitely about what is or isn't art, but the term abstract art has been well defined in the art world - and this isn't it.
try ebay- get an idea of what people would pay for these, do an art gallery show under her name, and since no one (i assume) knows what she looks like, she can walk around and talk to people. usually art collectors attend these and will pay top dollar to hang in their house. if she's not looking to sell, the gallery should she catch someones attention will make offers towards opportunities, etc.. you get the idea what i mean? this woman has so much potential. she's gotta get her art out there.
may someone please explain the meaning of / beauty in abstract art to me? i'm not criticizing it, i just really wanna know what gives it value; i've been asking myself this all day. thanks
Art isn't only Visual Beauty, It can Be Emotional too (By Emotional i mean that Peace of art can Express a specific Feeling and don;t have to seduce you Visually).. and in my opinion, This is So Beautiful.
wow thats amazing especially the last one but i dunderstood the statue with the bottom actualy more than she cut it off if that baby was a sheep but yea i whouldve cut it off too, i really wish her luck for the future.
What she read was extremely touching. Her paintings are absolutely gorgeous and I wish I had more to say... Her story is sad, but she makes the best of it with her paintings. She's extremely talented and I wish her the best in her life for herself and her daughter.
i have had mental illness for 30 years i paint happy things for my medicine i love the willow and girl i think its beautiful i wish so bad i had a friend like you to share my art . im bi polar and it is why i am an artist .life is so beautiful and ive seen the devil it was my first love , but god satyed with me and when i thought jesus was coming back they locked me up in the psyc ward so now i paint and people leave me alone but i want to be the most famous artist who ever lived
I'm so glad I got to see that. Thank You. Beauty, Interest, Charm, Emotion and I don't know what else... The First Painting, The Island and The Tree, and The Painting with the Poem... They are gonna stay with me, I know. And of course the first painting is positive! Where there's life and beauty there is also possibility... healing... mending... growth... new life. There's a power in that. That's what struck me.
Melissa, I have been at a painters block for a while and thought youtube could help. Your work is inspiring and I have a few ideas now. Thank you for sharing with us.
wow... that is so beautiful, its like emos beauty that should be shown to the world and i think that you helped with that a little bit cory. I will tell my friends about this and hope that they like it as much as i did and see the beauty in it because i might not have but i think they will and hope that she does get noticed more for her beauty and i think its really nice that you make a video about her work. you rock cory and melissa and hope you two get out into that into the limelight bye!
her work is beutiful...so deep. the first one for me made me think about (my dad passed on 3 years ago) how you just sort of need to recover after something bad happens. i don't know if i interpreted what she was saying correctly but it works for me so i'll take it.
wow. her work is amazing, i loved the first one because it kinda tells how nature can heal even the deepest wounds, at least thats how i saw it... wow. i think the 3rd one is my favorite even tho i dont really understand it.... wow. that 5th one is beautiful!! and there is something about the 6th, there is so much to see in it. she isnt disturbing, but very deep and she has a very clear view on the dark side of life, that most people seem to pretend doesnt exist, THANKS FOR SHARING!!!

yes let me be honest: the work i see is quite amiture, and the word "disturbing" can be used for both the paintings and the artist's speaking--really vulgar, no?
I found this quite disturbing. But how is that different from any of us? We all have this inner darkness, this sick, twisted part of our persona, but most hide it, either in shame or in fear. (ashamed others know this part of you exists, or in fear of what people think, say, or do, from knowing this part of you exists) Melissa Rocha is willing to show and express a part of herself that others hide and blatantly deny, and for that, I respect her. Oh, and I loved the paintings, too!
A real artist always represents thier work not have someone else do it. The work is amiture and her speaking about it makes it worse. This is not the way to go about being an artist. Its clearly not taken seriously by her, especially when she cuts it up. Everything should be intended and if it isn't should be clearly stated intent by the artist. The work is symbolic and I like that. The last piece was the most meaningful.
that second painting is beautiful, the second i saw it, it spoke to me. Amazing work. I so wish i could have still pictures of this so i could explain them to my psychology class. Outstanding, so amazing..
i love that first painting! u should find art shows and start putting ur work out there and thats how u become more known then start talking to art galleries
it was amazing and she shood rele try 2 get over her shyness and show her talant as well as her self and i can tell how deep and soulful she is i mean that poem @ the end was amazing i hav never herd someone speek there soul like that i almost cried. i think she shood show her face and she shoodnt be so self conscous but its so interesting its almost like yu can see her but u cant like u can feel her soul but u dont need her 2 be seen its a good mystery and rele makes u think...... great job
Shes really strange, and I know many more artists that are much better. You don't have to be all wierd to be a great artist. Tell her to leave her house and sell her own stuff damn.
a friend is anorexic she self harms alot do you paint to express your inner pain. By the way if you want world wide exposure of your art come into (second life) look me up at laguna beach jjccc art gallery

Talent, but I'm not seeing originality. I'm seeing a lot of kids who paint this way eh? (And I mean A LOT)
If you want to get out there tho, try galleries, cards, conventions, advertising, the INTERNETS. (And by that I mean building a website adn advertising like nuts.)
These are lovely. I have a friend who is a professional artist. I would be happy to ask him any questions you might have. He and I were talking the other day and he told me that the first basic rule of being a professional artist is knowing what to charge. I think your friend definately has the talent.
Ok well u can get her 2 open up you just have to make her feel like she is being nurished! i dont know if u noticed but all her paintings were of women with cuts or deformatys!! can be 2 thing:how she see's her self, or women in general!... if ur into ocar wilde u should know wat i'm talking bout!! the image always portrays the artist!...subconsious always leak out in a train of thought!
I totally understand what shes going through and means
uh... how do you buy her work? or meet her because shes so inspiring I just drew a picture after watching this and smiled at it Oo wow i might be a syco...*runs away* ok lol im just playing

Artists like her amaze me.
They can turn a blank canvas into something with feeling.
You need to understand the artist to feel the art.
It's not just splatters of paint.
The brush strokes are words.
The picture tells a story.
Sorry, went off in a rant.
:p
Anyway, she's awesome!

Shes really strange, and I know many more artists that are much better. You don't have to be all wierd to be a great artist. Tell her to leave her house and sell her own stuff damn.

Thank you for sharing your artist friend's works and words. I love when she cut out the part of her painting that had been driving her crazy.

These are lovely. I have a friend who is a professional artist. I would be happy to ask him any questions you might have. He and I were talking the other day and he told me that the first basic rule of being a professional artist is knowing what to charge. I think your friend definately has the talent.

Wow, I live in Merced. I didn't think anyone as morbidly talented as her would be here.

Wow... It is creepy how much I could see and relate to her art. Also how much most of my art looks like hers. She is someone I will be watching for.
