I remember being forced to learn these dances at school many years ago.... except we didn't really do it like these refined folk! Our main objective was to stamp on the feet of people we didn't like, and try to knock each others' hats off when turning. I reckon we had more fun doing it our way :-)
It may not be as flamboyant as Cossack dancing, or as recognisable as riverdancing, but it's a great tradition!
One of the advantages is that everybody can join in, so we can have our "twmpath" where everybody gets up and dances. People of all ages and all classes, just having a good dance! It's a great tradition!
Sorry, I respect your traditions, it's just I find it A LOT more boring the watch them morris dancing, which I do BTW, so I am biased as well. There are a lot of other things people can join in like celidhs, and you don't looks like such a fool.
I find Morris dacing completely riddiculous because it's a completely unsocial dance!
The whole point of dancing is to interact, and there's no better way to interact than to gt up and do som dawnsio gwerin.
I don't think you quite understand that dawnsio gwerin is still a major part of Welsh life. There are so many twmpaths every week-end in Wales, where people don't dress up because they're not competing, but have a laugh, meet people and get drunk!
I dance out every week, each dance I dance with 5 or 7 other people, that doesn't sound unsocial. We mess about and have a laugh, again, social. After the dancing we go into the pub and have a few drinks, social, and then we play tunes together, again social. AND there are a lot of other morris teams, with have ales, feasts, and weekends organized by some. So really, morris dancing is in fact VERY social.
what's backwards about not wanting the world see every part of your body? Is wrong to want to be judged by your intellect and characteristics rather than how big or small this and that part of the body is?
Hey, that was reely lovely! I wish I could get through Ty Coch like that. I wish I could get enough of a group going around here to even *try* Ty Coch! :-p

I love folk music, but I hate the dancing. It's quite fun to do at school, but it's not something fun to watch.

Please explain how morris dancing is anti-social?
I dance out every week, each dance I dance with 5 or 7 other people, that doesn't sound unsocial. We mess about and have a laugh, again, social. After the dancing we go into the pub and have a few drinks, social, and then we play tunes together, again social.
