with my little experience, i will question why shift so many up? i can see advantage in shifting down to sprint it out. can anybody tell me why someone would want to shift up so many? a mountain that suddenly appears from 1% to 20? i think its awesome technology and the shifting appears super silk.
Why not also develop shifters separate from the brake handles like on modern mountain bikes? This would mean easier shifting and less expense to manufacturer and user. I believe there is a market niche that could exist for this separate shifter and brake lever set-up system.
Riders want to shift while actually riding. That is where a riders hands are normally. It would be really out of place to have them in a different place.

That nich died decades ago. Road bike components are about weight savings. Fewer clamps and attachment points = less weight.
