KJV Onlyism does nothing but create divisions amongst Christians and churches. Just because someone prefers to read the NIV or NASB or NKJV makes them no less of a Christian than someone who reads the KJV.
This is a tool of the devil himself. The only people who care about what version of the Bible to read are Christians, and this movement can do nothing but cause disputes among Christians.
A good read on this is "The King James Only Controversy" by James R. White.
We have no common ground which to speak. You have no faith and no understanding of God's word. For you see it was the Bible that first said the earth was round, the life was in the blood....etc. As a matter a fact every time science has tried to prove it wrong has only proven it right. Maybe you should actually read it before trying to tell someone who does read it every day what it says.
"Last time I checked a circle was round." Correct. Round and flat. Here's something you can do in your own home: Take a felt marker, a piece of cardboard, and a pair of blunt-tipped scissors. Draw a CIRCLE on the cardboard and carefully cut it out. Now try to roll it around the floor ad if it were a ball. As you will see, it falls over. Balls don't fall over. Many cults are irrational in thier thinking. They use different versions of the Bible to twist and pervert what God teaches. True christianity has never started a war. You really should read it. God tells us to do to others as we want to be treated. Love our neighbor as ourselves. Yes he also tells us not associate with nonbelievers but many races worshiped together in the early church. Now on your 'emphasizing" There was a time in my life God spoke to my heart. Just as real as this ...
I hope you are never my paramedic. I would rather have one that believes in hope. I'm not crazy, but I don't care if you think I am. I said it wasn't an audiable voice. You've not had or not admit to having the experience of God's love or his wrath.
"I have nothing to lose and you have everything." Not at all. Too many religious types tell you to despise this life, setting aside your plans and passions to "set aside treasures in heaven." Or else they threaten you with terrible lies about an eternal torture chamber operated by "the god of love." THIS life is all you have. The "life after death" is a bronze-age myth. The word is the same as the one translated Passover everywhere else. To say that Easter is justified here for any reason is just plain daft. Easter has nothing to do with it.The text clearly refers to Passover since earlier it states these were the days of unleavened bread (v3) associated with passover, not Easter, so why argue for something that simply does not make sense?
What has Easter to do with unleavened bread? Modern Greek is irrelevant. Everywhere in Scripture Pascha should be translated passover. "Easter" has no place here it is a bad, inaccurate, wrong translation.
The "Christian" Festival of Easter had not been invented at that time. Passover starts the days of unleavened bread. The Passover meal includes unleavened bread, all leaven is excluded from the house from the day before Passover.
The one who coined the term 'passover' Tyndale, used the word Easter for it as well in his translation. It is not referring to the Christian festival of Easter, it is referring to a pagan feast day that mixed passover elements with pagan ones, just as modern Easter does.
And that is why they didn't translate it as passover in Acts 12:4, they saw that it wasn't passover. Once the DAYS of unleavened bread began the Passover had passed.(14th day of April)
Since unleavened bread is eaten at Passover, it is included in the days of unleavened bread. The Feast of unleavened bread, however, begins the next day.
No, there are two feasts mentioned. The Passover was a special day ("high day' Jn.19:31). The feast of unleavened bread began offically on the 15th day, even though no leavened bread was eaten on the 14th day as well. (Lev.23:5-6). Now, the 23rd chapter of Lev. is where the details of the feasts were given and AFTER the 14th, Passover was over, but the feast of unleavened bread began.
The two feasts are listed as offically beginning on different days, one on the 14th (Passover) and the other on the 15th, feast of unleavened bread. That is the offical way they are seen in Lev. 23 which gives the order of the feasts. So, both do not constitute the days of unleavened bread and Passover is never called the DAYS of unleavened bread.
Divided you will fall:according to the Holy Scripture(Rom3:9-18),no one of you who understand, no one who seeks God and the WAY of TRUTH you do not know, meaning you do not have the HOLY SPIRIT within you.Even the prophets and angels wanted to see what I see but it was not given to them.I am a FRIEND and CHILD of GOD,not hiding the SECRET of the TRUTH of JESUS WORD to me;I was called to REVEAL the TRUTH ONLY to those who NEEDS and WANTS it--to SET them FREE.I DO NOT need a PRAISE of man but GOD.
What is the best Bible version? There is no perfect English translations:but I used KJV & NIV for preaching and teaching; I prefer KJV for one on one word research, NIV for revealing the additions & deletions, and I also read other good versions to verify and compare the truth. Whatever is easy for anyone to understand is the best; what counts is the revelation of the TRUTH from the HOLY SPIRIT,and if those who hears the TRUTH will use what they have learned to apply it in their everyday life.
One mistake I have found in almost every English translations, including KJV, NIV, etc:In Matt26:17;On the first Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples comes to Jesus and asked,"Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?" The Passover meal was eaten the night of the Day of Preparation for the 1st Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. If the Feast is Thu,the customary Passover meal shall be eaten on the sunset of Tue--sunset to sunset reckoning.
Pro30:6;Do not add to His Words or He will rebuke you and prove you a liar.NIV revealed in ftnotes & comts many chgs in Gr manuscripts after the 16th Century.1Jh5:7-8the Spirit, the water & the blood was changed to the Father, the Word & the Holy Spirit;proof used in trinity.Jh3:3&7born from above or born of the Spirit was changed to born again.Mk16end in vs8;9-20 was added t have a proof of 1st day resurrection and sunday worship. Changed fr did not see to have seen & said nothing to she told.
Are you aware that from Gen. thru Rev,many Old English found in KJV have diff. meaning now in present English usage? To quote a few in the Bk. of Rom.4:4"reward" means "wage" now;4:20"staggered not" means "did not doubt" now;5:7"peradventure" means "perhaps" now;7:11"occasion" means "opportunity" now;7:17"no more" means "not really" in our present English usage now. A serious student or researcher of TRUTH will encounter this problem all over the KJV,unaware could easily miss the truth.
Looking for word for word tranlation,KJV is the best, but to say that it is a perfect translation, I disagree. I never found a perfect English translation of the Holy Scripture.Matt26:17 failed almost all versions. The Passover meal was eaten the night of the Day of Preparation prior to the 1st Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Let's say the Feast is Thu,the Passover meal shall be eaten on the sunset of Tue. Vs17 said on the first Day of the Feast of UB, they were just preparing for Passover.
Just an example of the KJV getting it wrong: "and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents" Gen 25:27 (KJV)
The Hebrew word translated plain, actually means "perfect" or "upright".
The KJV served a political agenda. The NT name Jacob became James in honour of the king. The word "baptism" was invented to hide that "baptizo" referred to total immersion. Church ministries were not translated in a similar way, eg pastor, apostle, deacon. Deaconess is not in the Greek, deacon is used throughout.
No translation of anything is ever 100% accurate.[even the KJV] because the languages work differently and it is impossible to account for the nuances in the different languages. For official documents, more than one is made. Compare and contrast them research them, check the source when there is any doubt. I know not everyone can translate Greek and Hebrew, be aware of which texts they use . Where they differ, take the ones that rely on Textus Receptus. Don't rely on just one translation.
2 Timothy 3:16, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:"
For the translation to be pure and the word of God, it must be without error.
the original is without error. The KJV is not without error as i have said elsewhere. We must be diligent in our study and open to God's leading to understand His Truth. It's immpossible to translate 100% accurately between any two languages because they have different grammatical rules and word meanings overlap. It is impossible for the KJV or any translation to be that accurate. It is interesting that the NT writers quote a Greek translation that was very different from original Hebrew text.
The word "DBR" in Hebrew means "word or thing" (that is a simplification of the problem). To be 100% accurate, the KJV would have to use an ENglish word that meant "word or thing". It. It is Greek & ways. English Words used in KJV: word 807 thing 231 matter 63 acts 51 chronicles 38 saying 25 commandment 20 miscellaneous translations 204 —Strong's Dictionary To be 100% accurate, which one English word would you use?
As I tried to say below, before my browser crashed and cut out the middle, languages don't overlap perfectly so it can't be done.
The KJV has it's share of errors. The translation of PASCHA as Easter in Acts 12:4 is wrong. The context makes it quite clear it should be Passover as it is every one of 38 other times it occurs.
God understands how language works, the alternative translations can be helpful. Perhaps he allowed them for a purpose?
And what is the problem with that? Baptism by the way is an Englsh word.
No, poor Bible teaching and not believing the Book has hidden the truth. All one has to do is understand that the sign gifts were for the transtion period when the NT Canon was being formed and those gifts ceased when the Canon closed.
Baptism was not an English word before the translators invented it. "Baptism" was invented by the translators to hide the fact it was full immersion of believers. The established Church did not practice this. It is the anglicised form of "baptizo" Greek meaning to immerse. Another example of hiding the Truth by not translating the word into the English.
No, actually Baptism was a word in the English usage before it was translated into the Bible. And Baptism doesn't just mean immersion, it's primary meaning is idenfication with. Now, that the person was to be immersed in water to be identified with the death, burial and resurrection is made clear by the context.
It is actually from the 13th century. And the context will tell you if immersion is being discussed. Moses was not immersed in 1Cor.10:2, the Egyptians were!
[13th century. Via French baptiser and ecclesiastical Latin baptisare< Greek baptizein "baptize" < baptein "dip"]
That does not change the meaning of the Greek , nor the fact it referred to a very Hebrew practice - the mikvah. The word was used to enable the church to hide the true meaning of the Greek.
Moses and the Hebrews passed through the water (a phrase also used of those who are baptized by immersion) They survived. The Egyptians did not pass through, they drowned.
Moses and the Hebrews were not immersed in water, the water separated for them. Context determines the correct meaning in each usage of the word and nothing is hidden. I have yet to see any Bible take out the word baptism and replace it with immersion.
They passed through the water and lived. Raised up to a new life of freedom. Immersion symbolises the same thing. To be true to the Greek, Bibles should use the word immersion, then there would be no confusion.
LOL! No, if they used immersion ever time Baptism was used they would be confused since the children of Israel were not 'immersed' the army of Phaorah were and they drowned.
No, the word doesn't always mean immerse in the Gr. either. Thayers has several meanings, including dipping, immersing, washing. So no one is missing anything by staying with the English.
What have the sign gifts got to do with this? Why would Jesus warn us about false anointed ones and their false signs and wonders if all that was obviously done away with? I think I would rather listen to him than risk my salvation on men's opinions and just one flawed translation.
The term Passover is loosely to cover the days of Unleavened Bread. The context here is Israel, Hebraic, not Pagan europe. Easter does not belong here, it never did.
Passover is the 14th day. The feast of unleavened bread followed THAT day. That is why the Holy Spirit mentioned it in Acts 12;3 to tell us that the actual Passover had passed. Easter does belong in the passage. The context is an Ebionite King and a pagan holiday coming at the same time as Passover, which sounds very much like Easter to me!
Passover refers to the whole period. It does today and has done for centuries. It is talking about Jewish people in a Jewish context speaking in a Jewish way. The "days of unleavened bread" and Passover both refer to the same thing. Easter has no place here. It never did. You need to look more closely at the Hebraic nature of this. The "days of unleavened bread" ind the "feast of unleavened bread " are not the same thing. Unleavened bread is eaten at Passover too.
Yes... You are exactly right. Yet the KJV "Onlyist" are steadfast in their defense of circular reasoning, ignoring irrefutable fact(s) when presented; "they" are frustrating to reason with. I just thank God that their are more "readable" versions out there for those who find the 400 yr. old English of the KJV too daunting. Over the years I've heard many people who were thankful to have God's word in a understandable version for the nourishment of their souls. Quite foolish debate and go witness!
Where does Paul say the translations are without error?
What about the added words in italics?
Atranslation "pure and without error"? There is none. We need to be vigilant, prayerful and willing to study. Such a situation keeps us on our toes. To accept any English translation as foolproof is folly. So many words in the KJV are difficult to understand, many have changed meaning. We have to learn a another language to read it. Why not learn Greek and Hebrew?
Really? If she believes the KJV is totally accurate and encapsulates the full meaning of scripture in its original languages without error she knows nothing about how translation works nor how differently languages function.
The KJB is totally accurate and does give the full meaning of the orginals in the English. God is able to make His words be completely understood in any language.
pastor means shepherd, why did they not say that? And why, pray, did they invent the term deaconess? the Greek uses the masculine throughout. That changes the meaning, surely!
Sorry, you are right about Deaconess. I was reading something quickly and made a mistake.
The English word for Pastor is Shepherd, what is wrong with using the English word in the English Bible rather than a contrived one imported from Greek?
In the NASB Psalms 78: 36 -37 says, "But they deceived him with THEIR MOUTH, And lied to Him with THEIR TONGUE. For their heart was not steadfast toward Him, nor were they faithful in His covenant."
Then in vs. 38 it says he forgave their iniquity so I think the above verses are about how the people were towards God not so much about how was affected by them.
All versions of God's Word have brought people to Christ. This is yet another ridiculous arguement from petty believers. Focus on what is important; searching out and bringing the lost to Christ!
@DianaArmstrongGonzal I've sat with Les quite a few times. He's truely a man of God.Diana,he's not a petty believer but does his homework and is convincing.I don't agree with Kent below but again,it's a convincing argument.
STILL cannot get a straight answer for the KJVO'ers... what about my brothers & sisters who only read French, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Chinese etc.... To say KJV is the most accurate translation into English at the TIME of the KJV 1611 (or the 1769 AV), thats OK, but to say it is the exclusive version from God to us, then we are promoting Jacobean English as `divine`.. and it easily becomes a fruitless skirmish as to `which` version
its not really a question of kjv v niv but rather the texts that they come from. All other bibles ion all other countries prior to the late 19th century would have come from the same text as the KJV did
Where do you get the information that the KJV is infallible? In some places it is just plain wrong. (see my last post).
A translation of a translation cannot be very accurate. We translated texts back into Hebrew for an excercise at University, the results were revealing, but not very scriptural sometimes.
@mumpty as long as that Bible is translated from the ORIGINAL transcripts from Hebrew, then its ok, the new bibles fallow an alexandrian text...found in egypt.
Do you like the NASB where it says God is decieved(Psalm 78:36)? Is this really the word of God, hmmmmm, go get yourself a KJV not false translations that blaspheme against God.
Why do so many spend there time aguring with other believers about which Bible to read, when the rapture will happen, can we lose our salvation(NO), etc...?; instead of FOCUSING on what is important, the lost souls? It doesn't really matter mwhich version one reads, they have ALL brought people to Christ! Time is short, life is short; eternity is forever...use your time wisely.
11"For The Son Of man came to save [ from the penalty of eternal death] that which is lost." It is strange that the verse is missing but it is not missing in the Amplified Version. AV has been my Bible for many, many years and has saved many from satan's grip including myself. WHY do some christians spend their time arguing with other christians instead of focusing on what is really important? Saving the lost, just like that verse is talking about. Leading those who do not know Jesus to Him!
Actually, I was only just introduced to the who bible version debate an hour or so ago. I'm not interested(wether your talking about me or not) in argueing with others. I just want to know which Bible version is an accurate one so that I won't be mislead by wrong tranlations. Or, by bibles that have, apparently, removed verses. Like my NIV, example. Unless it was done by accident...
That verse (Matt.18:11) is missing in my NIV (The Quest Study Bible), why I'm not sure but I do recommend this book for understanding His Word easily.I also really like my Amplified Version I have which is much easier to read then the KJV that is full of 16th century words. Really, the Quest Study Bible is a great one to own! God Bless You!
It was removed because the Amplified is following the corrupt texts of the Nestle/Aland, United Bible Society, the same texts which all modern versions follow.
FOCUS people! WHY? do you spend so much time & energy arguing amoung other believers instead of trying to save as many as you can from hell? You argue over what Bible to read, when the rapture will be, can we lose our salvation(NO), etc...It is NOT that important which Bible one reads! Many have come toknow Jesus and God's Word through ALL versions. Where is the love Jesus commanded us to show each other?
the more that anyone studies the area of the original text the more obvious it is that the kjv came from the original text and all the modern versions are deeply corrupt.

NONE. No outside, independant evidence

You cant trust the bible AT ALL,
it was a fireside book of myth to start with
and it has been degraded steadily ever since.
It is so vague, so internally inconsistent,
so filled with scientific and historical error
and so many contradictions
that it is totally worthless for any sort
of instruction or moral guidance.

"it was the Bible that first said the earth was round"
No it didn't.
The Bible says the earth is flat.
And that the sun revolves around the earth.
And that humans are made of dirt.
And that snakes, donkeys, and bushes talk.
And that animals appeared AFTER man but BEFORE woman.
Other than a few minor details like that,
it's a really scientific book!

Here's something you can try in your own home:
Take a felt marker, a piece of cardboard,

The word is the same as the one translated Passover everywhere else. To say that Easter is justified here for any reason is just plain daft. Easter has nothing to do with it.The text clearly refers to Passover since earlier it states these were the days of unleavened bread (v3) associated with passover, not Easter, so why argue for something that simply does not make sense?
chava2uk 3 years ago
The days of unleavened bread came AFTER passover. If you ask a modern Greek their word for Easter, they will tell you 'pascha'
edwardpf123 3 years ago
What has Easter to do with unleavened bread? Modern Greek is irrelevant. Everywhere in Scripture Pascha should be translated passover. "Easter" has no place here it is a bad, inaccurate, wrong translation.
The "Christian" Festival of Easter had not been invented at that time. Passover starts the days of unleavened bread. The Passover meal includes unleavened bread, all leaven is excluded from the house from the day before Passover.
chava2uk 3 years ago
The one who coined the term 'passover' Tyndale, used the word Easter for it as well in his translation. It is not referring to the Christian festival of Easter, it is referring to a pagan feast day that mixed passover elements with pagan ones, just as modern Easter does.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
And that is why they didn't translate it as passover in Acts 12:4, they saw that it wasn't passover. Once the DAYS of unleavened bread began the Passover had passed.(14th day of April)
edwardpf123 3 years ago
No Passover begins them
chava2uk 3 years ago
No, the Passover was on the 14th and then began the feast of unleavened bread.
(Lev.23:5-6) Passover ended on the 15th.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
Since unleavened bread is eaten at Passover, it is included in the days of unleavened bread. The Feast of unleavened bread, however, begins the next day.
chava2uk 3 years ago
No, there are two feasts mentioned. The Passover was a special day ("high day' Jn.19:31). The feast of unleavened bread began offically on the 15th day, even though no leavened bread was eaten on the 14th day as well. (Lev.23:5-6). Now, the 23rd chapter of Lev. is where the details of the feasts were given and AFTER the 14th, Passover was over, but the feast of unleavened bread began.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
the two feasts are Passover and unleavened bread. Both constitute the "days of unleavened bread"
chava2uk 3 years ago

Whatever is easy for anyone to understand is the best; what counts is the revelation of the TRUTH from the HOLY SPIRIT,and if those who hears the TRUTH will use what they have learned to apply it in their everyday life.
jesuswayph 3 years ago
One mistake I have found in almost every English translations, including KJV, NIV, etc:In Matt26:17;On the first Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples comes to Jesus and asked,"Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?" The Passover meal was eaten the night of the Day of Preparation for the 1st Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. If the Feast is Thu,the customary Passover meal shall be eaten on the sunset of Tue--sunset to sunset reckoning.

A serious student or researcher of TRUTH will encounter this problem all over the KJV,unaware could easily miss the truth.
jesuswayph 3 years ago
Looking for word for word tranlation,KJV is the best, but to say that it is a perfect translation, I disagree. I never found a perfect English translation of the Holy Scripture.Matt26:17 failed almost all versions. The Passover meal was eaten the night of the Day of Preparation prior to the 1st Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Let's say the Feast is Thu,the Passover meal shall be eaten on the sunset of Tue. Vs17 said on the first Day of the Feast of UB, they were just preparing for Passover.

How accurate is the KJV?
The Hebrew word YHVH is the name of God. (Yahweh, or Jehovah) The KJV translates it the LORD 6510 times, God 4 times and Jehovah only 4 times!
If it is without error, why does it do this? It deliberately hides the name of God.
chava2uk 3 years ago
Just an example of the KJV getting it wrong: "and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents" Gen 25:27 (KJV)
The Hebrew word translated plain, actually means "perfect" or "upright".
The KJV served a political agenda. The NT name Jacob became James in honour of the king. The word "baptism" was invented to hide that "baptizo" referred to total immersion. Church ministries were not translated in a similar way, eg pastor, apostle, deacon. Deaconess is not in the Greek, deacon is used throughout.
chava2uk 3 years ago
No translation of anything is ever 100% accurate.[even the KJV] because the languages work differently and it is impossible to account for the nuances in the different languages. For official documents, more than one is made. Compare and contrast them research them, check the source when there is any doubt. I know not everyone can translate Greek and Hebrew, be aware of which texts they use . Where they differ, take the ones that rely on Textus Receptus. Don't rely on just one translation.
chava2uk 3 years ago
2 Timothy 3:16, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:"
For the translation to be pure and the word of God, it must be without error.
fishslab 3 years ago
the original is without error. It is interesting that the NT writers quote a Greek translation that was very different from original Hebrew text.
chava2uk 3 years ago
So, you're telling me that God cannot move men to translate with one-hundred percent accuracy?!!

Perhaps he allowed them for a purpose?
chava2uk 3 years ago
The Answer Book by Samuel Gipp debunks the myth that Easter should not be present in the Authorized Version (KJV).
God allows many things, chava2uk. God did not inspire those corrupt translations. God inspired the KJV perfectly.
fishslab 3 years ago
Why then are so many words like "baptism" , "deacon", "pastor", and "Christ"(to name but a few) essentially left untranslated from the Greek?
Christ means "anointed one". Translating it properly in:
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
Mark 13:22 (KJV)
would make the warning much clearer to the church today! We have so many claiming "the anointing". The KJV has hidden this warning from the church !
chava2uk 3 years ago
And what is the problem with that? Baptism by the way is an Englsh word.
No, poor Bible teaching and not believing the Book has hidden the truth. All one has to do is understand that the sign gifts were for the transtion period when the NT Canon was being formed and those gifts ceased when the Canon closed.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
Baptism was not an English word before the translators invented it. "Baptism" was invented by the translators to hide the fact it was full immersion of believers. The established Church did not practice this. It is the anglicised form of "baptizo" Greek meaning to immerse. Another example of hiding the Truth by not translating the word into the English.
chava2uk 3 years ago
No, actually Baptism was a word in the English usage before it was translated into the Bible. And Baptism doesn't just mean immersion, it's primary meaning is idenfication with. Now, that the person was to be immersed in water to be identified with the death, burial and resurrection is made clear by the context.
Baptism hides nothing.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
According to Liddell and Scott "baptizo" means to dip(repeatedly), immerse , bathe and to dye. what dictionary are you using to get "identify with"?
I would be interested in examples of the English usage.
chava2uk 3 years ago
You might want to look up the word in the OED and there you will find the various ways it was used in pre-1611 English.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
ok thanks
chava2uk 3 years ago
It is actually from the 13th century. And the context will tell you if immersion is being discussed. Moses was not immersed in 1Cor.10:2, the Egyptians were!
[13th century. Via French baptiser and ecclesiastical Latin baptisare< Greek baptizein "baptize" < baptein "dip"]
edwardpf123 3 years ago
That does not change the meaning of the Greek , nor the fact it referred to a very Hebrew practice - the mikvah. The word was used to enable the church to hide the true meaning of the Greek.
Moses and the Hebrews passed through the water (a phrase also used of those who are baptized by immersion) They survived. The Egyptians did not pass through, they drowned.
chava2uk 3 years ago
Moses and the Hebrews were not immersed in water, the water separated for them. Context determines the correct meaning in each usage of the word and nothing is hidden. I have yet to see any Bible take out the word baptism and replace it with immersion.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
They passed through the water and lived. Raised up to a new life of freedom. Immersion symbolises the same thing. To be true to the Greek, Bibles should use the word immersion, then there would be no confusion.
chava2uk 3 years ago
LOL! No, if they used immersion ever time Baptism was used they would be confused since the children of Israel were not 'immersed' the army of Phaorah were and they drowned.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
Whether the Bible writers use it figuratively or not, the Greek word still means immersed. We miss the point if we tamper with that.
chava2uk 3 years ago
No, the word doesn't always mean immerse in the Gr. either. Thayers has several meanings, including dipping, immersing, washing. So no one is missing anything by staying with the English.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
What have the sign gifts got to do with this? Why would Jesus warn us about false anointed ones and their false signs and wonders if all that was obviously done away with? I think I would rather listen to him than risk my salvation on men's opinions and just one flawed translation.
chava2uk 3 years ago
The term Passover is loosely to cover the days of Unleavened Bread. The context here is Israel, Hebraic, not Pagan europe. Easter does not belong here, it never did.
chava2uk 3 years ago
Passover is the 14th day. The feast of unleavened bread followed THAT day. That is why the Holy Spirit mentioned it in Acts 12;3 to tell us that the actual Passover had passed. Easter does belong in the passage. The context is an Ebionite King and a pagan holiday coming at the same time as Passover, which sounds very much like Easter to me!
edwardpf123 3 years ago
Passover refers to the whole period. It does today and has done for centuries. It is talking about Jewish people in a Jewish context speaking in a Jewish way. The "days of unleavened bread" and Passover both refer to the same thing. Easter has no place here. It never did. You need to look more closely at the Hebraic nature of this. The "days of unleavened bread" ind the "feast of unleavened bread " are not the same thing. Unleavened bread is eaten at Passover too.
chava2uk 3 years ago
Quite foolish debate and go witness!
rb300dx 3 years ago
What about the errors in the KJV?
Where does Paul say the translations are without error?
What about the added words in italics?
Atranslation "pure and without error"? There is none. We need to be vigilant, prayerful and willing to study. Such a situation keeps us on our toes. To accept any English translation as foolproof is folly. So many words in the KJV are difficult to understand, many have changed meaning. We have to learn a another language to read it. Why not learn Greek and Hebrew?
chava2uk 3 years ago
Watch my videos on Gail Riplinger. She answers many, if not all, of your questions.
fishslab 3 years ago
Really? If she believes the KJV is totally accurate and encapsulates the full meaning of scripture in its original languages without error she knows nothing about how translation works nor how differently languages function.
chava2uk 3 years ago
The KJB is totally accurate and does give the full meaning of the orginals in the English. God is able to make His words be completely understood in any language.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
pastor means shepherd, why did they not say that? And why, pray, did they invent the term deaconess? the Greek uses the masculine throughout. That changes the meaning, surely!
chava2uk 3 years ago
There is no word deaconess in the KJB. What bible are you looking at? what is wrong with the word pastor, it is seems clear to me.
edwardpf123 3 years ago
Sorry, you are right about Deaconess. I was reading something quickly and made a mistake.
The English word for Pastor is Shepherd, what is wrong with using the English word in the English Bible rather than a contrived one imported from Greek?
chava2uk 3 years ago
In the NASB Psalms 78: 36 -37 says, "But they deceived him with THEIR MOUTH, And lied to Him with THEIR TONGUE. For their heart was not steadfast toward Him, nor were they faithful in His covenant."
Then in vs. 38 it says he forgave their iniquity so I think the above verses are about how the people were towards God not so much about how was affected by them.

I have two NIV versions and found a verse missing in Matthew chapter 18. Its verse 11.
WisePillow 3 years ago
