Wait so you slide up to an E (14th fret, D string), and then go to a G (12th fret, g string)? I just slid up to to a G (10th fret, A string) and played the octave (12th fret, G string). Guess I need to work on my aural skills… (>_<)
Me neither, but there are better basses I think. I like my Fender Classic 70s J-Bass better than this one, but mine is much cheaper :D It's made in Mexico, that's why it isn't too expensive. You should try one :)
its not an envelope filter, its the amp setting and his bass. The closest way to get that sound is to simply pop and slap the song and make sure the action on ur bass is raised pretty high. Also, I would recommend turning up your low to almost full max(be careful Fender Jazz bass and musicman stingray owners, may have too much of a growl, for those like me who play a Jazz bass or a musicman, id recommend only going up to about 7)
dude r u like friends with red hot chili peppers or something because its either tat or ur good at tuning because tat sounds extacly the same as fleas bass
a dude i would give alot for one too but it woul d be pointless my friend to give your arms for it cuz then you wont be able to play so you would pretty much be fucked.
if you install the same pickup thats on the modulus (bartilini) onto the musicman its sounds so much better then a modulus. plus you have a alot of options on how you want your tone to be unlike the modulus
The sound comes more from the technique than anything else. It's that style of digging in really hard on the strings, and doing it fairly close to the bridge. The pickup and preamp are just icing on the cake, but the real thing that makes the tone is the way he plays. You take that player and put him on any other bass and it will sound at least somewhat similar.
actually i would belive you, but i can see that he's not doing any 'special' technique than playing with the 'normal one'...playing near the bridge and digging in don't make a slapsound... that makes a metalic sound
dude there is no slap effect. it's pure technique. opensource nailed it on the head. digging in and playing close to the bridge gives you that sound. of course good equipment does help as well...
totally agree with "opensourcelinuxm". he is diggin hard on the strings. u can try it too and will get close the sound. to get the full sound u need a modulus bass. really expansive they are. hehe. good luck.
fantastic.... how do you do to got that "percusive" sound with your fingering (not the slap), similar to a "bass drumm"??

The guitar player in my band has a Mexican-made Fender. We call it the "Fajender". He seems to like it.

i want to get one of them soon, could you post a video review for me or just tell me how it is?
bassman959 2 years ago
GearWire has a good review, just type in 'Fender Classic '70's Jazz Bass' in the searching thing on YouTube.
I can't make one myself because I don't have a camera or webcam orso.

Not that Modulus is bad, they just don't "have it" if that makes any sense.

Nah, man you can get any tone you want out of a Flea bass. I own a Flea bass and I've owned a music man and the Flea is WAYYYY more durable.
