  • A good hat for summer.

  • Hi Teresa, I got it but it turns out very small. I used 3.00mm hook with 8 ply Acrylic string. How can i enlarge the hat?

  • @geraldinechieng You will need to work in more increase stitches

  • @tjw1963 by increase, do you mean increase every row like normal or increase one row, v-stitch around for the next, then increase the next row?

  • @xCircusLovex By increase like normal, I mean for example: inrcease, 2 v-stitches, increase, 2 v-stitches then the next row would be increase, 3 v-stitches, increase, 3 v-stitches

  • Hi Teresa, I got it but it turns out very small. I used 3.00mm hook with 8 ply Acrylic string. How can i enlarge the hat?

  • hi teresa! is it possible to put a brim around the hat? if yes, any suggestions how?

  • Love the V stitct! So quick to make the beanie, scarf or throw and still oh so beautiful! :)

  • On rounds 5 through 12 do you need to chain four at the beginning of each round?

  • Hi

Is it possible you could do a tutorial for flared leg warmers?

  • lovely!!!!! thank you!

  • @modgurl69 You are welcome! :)

  • iT WOULD BE really nice if the printed instructions could be avaliable also.

Thank you for taking the time to d these videos. Jacki

  • @MikesGirlJacki There is a link to the written instructions in the video details below the video.

  • u r my hero...u have made me love crochet so much....May all your wishes come true...

  • @SarSrik How nice of you! Thank you!

  • Can you add more v [increase] stitches after the fifth/sixth row. The hat seems to be too small if I stop at round 4 or 5 [18 stitches made]?

  • @FIGGYWOMAN Sure you can. You will work more increase stitches the same way you worked the previous increase stitches.

  • Can stitches be mixed on the same hat? :) Can i start for example making double crochets on the first two rounds, and then on the third start with v stitches? :) And, can this be done with bulkier thread, and what would the outcome be?

  • @Inpsydout You can mix in different stitches. You can use bulkier yarn but it will make the size a bit larger. With that in mind, you can compensate by working less increase stitches so the cap will come out closer to the size you are looking for.

  • @tjw1963 Thanks :) How can I alternate from double crochet stitches to V Stitches? One row each?

  • @tjw1963 Thanks :) How can I alternate from only double crochet stitches to V Stitches? One row each?

  • @tjw1963 Thanks :)

  • i want to ask why do we use different sizes of hooks...my sister bought me a set of hooks from red heart, 5 of them 3.75; 4.0; 5.0; 6.0 and 6.5....when do i use size 6.5? thanks

  • @theapauline18 You can use the larger hook at any time if you are making a blanket or a scarf. Any size hook can be used with some modification.

  • Why're you using size 10mm hook, wouldn't it be larger than a normal size?

  • @Bufurzone The cap is made with a different combination of stitches using the larger hook. It is a size N/9mm crochet hook.

  • @tjw1963 Really, but in your measurement chart video N was 10mm.I want to be sure wether all numbers are right, thanks for the information though!

  • @Bufurzone There are not set standards with crochet hook sizes so some may reflect different numbers.

  • @tjw1963 Hmmm,thanks :)

  • Hola Teresa!!!!!!

  • Is the hat supposed to Curl when you get to to the 7-8th rows? Because my hat is starting to curl

  • @SlyDevil11 Yes, it will start to form the sides somewhere at that point.

  • @tjw1963 YAY! I thought i was doing it wrong! Your videos are so Helpful! You have me crochetting in now time! Thank you!

  • @tjw1963 ok One last question, is it supposed to curl like lettuce or a bowl?

  • @SlyDevil11 It is supposed to curl like a bowl. If it is curling like lettuce, you may have worked to many stitches.

  • @daisykatz2004 what is throwing you off, is it when she does the chain one after the double crochet? It took me a second when watching her on another video where she was doing a half-double and chain one, I got preoccupied with the stitch, I was thinking, she's doing to much to the half-double, then it dawned on me it was also the chain one.

  • My biggest hook is 8.00mm, size L, will this turn just fine or should I increase as i crochet?

  • @Sorrrow1984 You may want to work an additional increase round or may two, depending on how snug or loose you want the cap to fit your head.

  • thank you

  • your awsome

  • super begginer !!

  • How frustrating I don't understand it very well on this , the counting and the fast of the video doesn't help much ,

  • @daisykatz2004 Are you a beginner?

  • @tjw1963 got it!!

  • Instead of starting with a magic circle, can you actually start with a slip knot as an alternative for this project?

  • @wahinesurfergirl You can start with a chain of 3 or 4, join and then continue with the pattern.

  • Did you say an M hook... 10mm?

Never seen one that big before, think my biggest is K/6.5mm

  • not sure which space to st in

  • @lkr5252 You will stitch in the chain 1 space.

  • I am confused on rd 3 I have 17 spaces all my spaces look alike

  • Teresa, I need to make this hat larger than average head. Could you please tell me how I could do that? Thank you, Geneva

  • @genevalou The easiest way would be to use a larger crochet hook. You can also do a few more increase stitches.

  • thanks the instructions are very clear, i'll try to do it and hope that is easy, i'm from Mexico sorry about my English

  • I love to do that can you tell me how many stitches I need to do for a differents sizes please i would like to do for people with cancer thank you so much for your help and Congratulations....

  • My largest hook is a K. Can I still use that.

  • Yes, you can use any size hook. Since you are using a little bit smaller hook, you may need to include some more increase stitches. A smaller crochet hook may make the cap turn out a bit smaller.

  • Very impressive work!.. Have u ever known any1 with cancer? I would like to encourage u, to b inspired 2 use ur talent 2 help those in need. Tho, I am not in the best of health, I found the strength to make 500 hats this past year. I donated ALL to cancer patients, young and old. The look of gratitude on each face was the most rewarding validation for my work. If this disabled grandma could accomplish all that, while just watching TV and relaxing. WHAT can u do? See Happy Hats For Cancer.

  • Thank you.

  • hola teresa, tus videos son fantasticos!!!!! he aprendido muchas cosas y espero seguir haciendolo!!!!

  • You are welcome.

  • tjw1963 Thanks you ! I have learned so much form you & now I'm going to make my family kid & grand kids gift for this Christmas & very good therapy for me God Bless you & I'm looking forward to your new crocheting projects & when I learn how to show you pictures I will send you pic. of hats, scarfs, potholders.Angels, mouses, cupcakes, & more that you have taught me how to do, I love all your work thanks again Teresa:) You Great !!!

  • tjw1963 Thank so much for your help, I have always wanted to crochet & with your help (I did it)& I have Cerviel Dystona it's a movement disorder (God Bless you) & Thanks again:) HAVE A GREAT YEAR!

  • It is GREAT to hear that you have been successful. Keep up the great work. I appreciate the comment, thank you. :)

  • Hey TJ, I know you have a vid tutorial out there for the V-stitch but I can't seem to find it, I went back a year. I understand from watching this vid that the stitch is made by a dbl cr ch 1 combined with a dbl cr. If this is correct plz let me know. I read the patterns through before starting and I try the stitches that I am not familiar with. You are a great teacher. Thanks!!!

  • I will send you the link for the V-Stitch. The V-stitch is a double crochet, chain, double crochet. The chain amount between the double crochet can be flexible. I usually use a chain 1 or 2.

  • Hi Teresa! What is the brand name of this yarn you used to make this hat.

  • I believe it is Red Heart. They have some really nice looking fleck type yarn, that is lighter in weight but still 4 ply.

  • When you get to Rd 4 you do not follow through on your stitches - 6 V-Stitch, 6 V-stitch increase - where do you place the 6 V-stitch increases in that row - do you space them out or what? I have tried doing this hat fourteen times and it still is not coming out like I want it to. HELP!

  • You work each stitch in the next stitch. Round 4 starts at timecode 6:35 and ends at at 8:30. A small portion of Round 4 is in slow motion. If your prior rounds have the correct amount of stitches, the V-stitch, V-stitch increase 6 times will fit. There will be 18 chain 1 spaces total, 6 V-stitches and 6 V-stitch increases. How many are you ending up with?

  • hey there =) i was wondering if you could have a tutorial about making a summer beach hat. i'm unsure how to make the bottom part that goes around the hat. i would really appreciate it. i have learned so muxh from you THANKS a WHOLE BUNCH!!!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • I love to follow your instructions. They are very easy.

  • Thank you. :)

  • hello,

I'm very excited about crochet. I couldn't believe I have made one as you taught.

Thanks for your generous and kind.

And I just wonder if there is possible that you may teach us to crochet a market bag or something.

Because I misunderstand the pattern of market bag in the net, I just pull it out again. No mention I spent almost 12 hours crocheting it.

And thanks again. You lead me into the fantastic world.

  • Kewl; I can't lie I never got into crocheting. My mom was has been (not a lot now), for over 20 yrs and she tried to teach me but I was too uncoordinated; lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I made this hat the same way you did but it was to tight for my head & I ended up giving it my daughtr who is 18 months lol. How can I make it bigger to fit my head?

    Thank You<3

  • What size crochet hook did you use? You can add more increase stitches to the consecutive rounds if you are using a smaller hook.

  • Oh you know I forgot that I used a size K hook, that was biggest size I had. I'll have to buy a bigger hook. I didn't think about that. I'll let you know how it comes out too. Thank you<3

  • Teresa, I have Caron simply soft yarn-worsted weight 4 ply, will that be okay to use to make this hat? And what size crochet hook should I use? Thanks, Fernanda

  • Caron will work well. You can use the same size hook as in the video.

  • Teresa, I'm trying to find the written instructions on your crochet blog. Help! :).

  • The blog link will always be to the right of the video, under my channel image, under "More Info". On occasion there may not be a blog post but most of the time there is.

  • Teresa,

THANKS a bunch for such great and easy crocheting instructions. Your videos are SUPER! I've made 3 beanie hats and now I'm going to try and make this hat.

  • Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. :)

  • very useful and clear to understand, not boring at all, thanks for sharing it. now I know how to crochet.

  • Thank you very much. :)

  • Hi Teresa!!!

I'm a beginner & I would like to know how many skein of yarn would be used on a scarf 1 1/2 wide, 80 in lengh, using a 5-ply? What would be the approximate number of seed stitches used?

    Can you please help me???

    Thank Youuuuuuuu!!!

    Andrea.

  • 1 and 1/2 feet wide? I would estimate 5 skeins of yarn and start with 16 seed stitches. That may or may not be enough so there will be an amount of trial and error in getting the width to the size you want it.

  • Great video! I have a quick question, what crochet hooks do you think is best: Plastic, wood,or metal?

  • Aluminum and Steel.

  • on the second round. are we suppose to do a total of 4 double crochets in one space for a total of 2 v stiches?

  • 3 double crochet. It is like doing 1-1/2 V stitches for a gradual increase. The next round you will do a full V- Stitch in each space.

  • Teresa, you have the greatest videos. I use them as a classroom. What is that attached to your "n" hook?

  • Thank you. That is a gooshy grip on the crochet hook. You can find them in the office supply area in Wal-mart by the pencils. For the smaller hooks I use a piece of plastic tubing that is cut lengthwise and inserted through the grip. Then I insert the hook. I do have a video on how I made them.

  • Thank you for written instructions

  • You are welcome. When I put a video up, the instructions are not to far from being posted.

  • You make it so easy for me to learn threw these tutorials!

    Thanks a lot.

  • I love your videos! You have successfully taught me to crochet and I look forward to your new ones! Do you think you will ever do any socks? Thanks for inspiring us!

  • The V-Stitch scarf was posted approximately 4 months ago.

  • I have crochet slippers right now. If I am able to work through a pattern for socks, I will share it.

  • Thank you for this video. I always wanted to know how to do this stich but I didn't know what it wa called or how to do it. All the hats I make are using double crochet or half double chrochet & i like this cause it's light weight=)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Thank you

    another great project

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Omg ive been waiting for this kind of hat i love it! your the best!! can you use any kind of yarn or is that a special yarn?

  • The yarn I used in the tutorial is just common 4-ply yarn.

  • another great video, Thanks! I never understand the written instructions, but you have really made it simple for me to make all the projects I dreamed of!

what type of novelty yarn was the purple blend hat made from?

  • It was Bernat Boa yarn.
