I do know checks and balances. I am saying that Bush checked Congress when the democrats were in charge with his veto power. Congress didn't have enough democrats to override his veto (Congress' check on the president).
Any bill that was against Bush's ideology was shot down or was threatened to be shot down (there is no point in working hard on a bill if it is just going to get vetoed).

Obama is doing better than Bush or Clinton in his first year compared to theirs. His approval rating is higher than both and his disapproval rating is about the same as Bush's in 2001. These aren't bad numbers at all. It also doesn't mean much its still very early. Bush went on to have a high of 92% approval and a low of 19% approval. And Clinton had a high of 73 and a low of 36. Bush was loved and hated but in 2001 he wasn't either he was new and had decent numbers. So its not bad for Obama

The plan that I have heard is to spend more now to invest in things that will grow our economic growth or save money in the long term. Then in 2-3 years, we can start seeing a surplus that will go towards cutting down the deficit.

I do know checks and balances. I am saying that Bush checked Congress when the democrats were in charge with his veto power. Congress didn't have enough democrats to override his veto (Congress' check on the president).
Any bill that was against Bush's ideology was shot down or was threatened to be shot down (there is no point in working hard on a bill if it is just going to get vetoed).

1) The process of federal tax is initiated from the president's budget request every fiscal year. It details what the he thinks should be recommended. He doesn't make the budget and tax plan, but he has influence.
2) The president can move troops anywhere in the world since he controls the armed forces. He can essentially start a war, but it isn't officially a war. Ex. War in Iraq. It wasn't officially declared a war by Congress.

War hasn't been declared by Congress since 1942. That is because none of the presidents since then have bothered to get formal declarations of war.
None of this has anything to do with your claim that President Bush somehow prevented Congress from doing their job. Congress laid down and let Bush do his thing, even the Democrats, because they were expecting to win in '08.

Republican and Democrat platforms aren't significantly different anyway. Look at Obama: he's not taking troops out of the Middle East any time soon.
The media makes a big deal out of squabbling over little, non-issues so that the two parties are perceived as "different." It gives voters the illusion of choice, so when they're tired of one party, they get the "opposite" (more of the same).
