@Flapjack329 Mt. Washington sets at a high elevation plus where the mountain is located it's close to the Atlantic Ocean allowing big amounts of moisture too move in followed by the cold artic air that moves down from canada!.
Yeah, they switched icons in December 2006. But, now I'm getting used to them and I'm really liking the "Thunderstorm" icon, I just wished it was different from the strong thunderstorm icon, though.
Question...HOW can there be fog with those kind of winds? I thought winds push the fog away in the direction they're blowing? And 103 mph winds with fog seems contradicting to how wind and fog are supposed to interact. The fog should have been blown away by the winds.
it's not fog so much as clouds being blown over the summit... fog just describes clouds at ground level, even if that level is thousands of feet in the air. haha
there's a great clip of the forecast for new orleans during katrina... the automated voice talks about gusts up to 150mph like it's just an every day thing. haha
For people who don't know anything (and I mean anything) about New Hampshire, Mount Washington has the weirdest weather, ranging from extreme winds to extreme temps. As I always say, the STAR never lies. If it says it, it must be true. I suggest everyone to google Mount Washington.
Thanks for your post! Yes that is not uncommon, I wish I could have gotten the 158 mph gusts that occurred in Oct 06 on the STAR, but alas I was on top of the mountain when that happened. It is a nice outlier to see though on your local forecast.
I apologize if it looked like I was rude or anything. I guess people who see this clip that live outside New England or the Northeast, could get fooled that it could be an error or something. And I do believe regional info on the STARs still comes from the NWS, which proves its accurate, tho the forecast comes from TWC.
I dont know the exact name of the song, but I DO know the artist is Pat Metheny. I THINK the song is Long Train Home, but don't hold me accountable for that.
I look up The Weather Channel playlists and look at the playlists and search on iTunes. But if I hear it sound like guitar, I look at the Weather Channel guitar artists.

You are actually in the clouds and it is not your typical ground fog that you get under calm conditions.
