What history have you been reading? The French were defeated by diplomacy rather than any sort of military might. What do you think the 'Phoney War' of 39-40 was? The Saar offensive showed that the French military tactics were wildly antiquated, and 'heavily fortified'? They were relying on the Wehrmacht being slowed down by the trees of the Ardennes. The French would undoughtedely fight to the end, but they were pretty much defeated because of superior tactics. The Poles would have done the same and so would any other country had they been given the chance. In WW I, France didn't surrender, and they just kept on fighting.

It was the French that stopped the Germans from annihilating the British army at Dunkirk, by holding off the Germans at the Siege of Lille. Vichy France supported the Nazis, yes, but they don't represent the real France. Many puppet goverments of Europe aided the Nazis, and also sent some of their soldiers to the Eastern Front.

The English lost to the Normans and French at Hastings and this resulted with the French ruling class governing England for hundreds of years.
Had the Germans successfully invaded Britain in 1940, the British may put up some fierce resistance, but eventually they will have to surrender.

Since you've studied history, then I assume you know that France rejoined the fight in 1944 officially, and the French had the 4th largest army in Europe after Britain, USA, and Russia. It's the same thing with many other countries that were liberated from the Germans.
The French fought in Africa, Russia, Europe, and they were even going to send a force to help the Americans in the Pacific.

@638096755499 The Versailles treaty is to blame for Great Deprrison, WWII and Holocaust. France was the one who Proposed Versailles treaty and USA wanted to do domthing waaay less harsch. "14 points" When Germany couldnt pay reperations anymore when France occupied the Ruhr, German marks fell to like 42 TRILLION marks to the US dollar!SO then Germany couldnt pay, well, lets say UK- UK cant pay back US - US just lost alot of money. Do you know how much a war cost?
