  • oh man now I want some pink starburst so bad.

  • If that was me, I wouldn't do that pointless crap. I'd go for the Starbursts

  • Wow, even the Asian kid didn't get it!

  • the chimp is very smart

  • If you think about it, the adults hadn't told the kids that you could skip steps or alternative ways to get the candy. Think about, the kids would think it's much more like a test. (FOR EX: A high schooler doing an open-ended question. The direction on the paper clearly states to show work. The student has a calculator, but he knows to show work or he will fail.) I just think that the adults did not state careful instructions.

  • conclusion: all those childs are from US.

  • @AngelLestat2 are you from the US?

  • @ayetugger: if you need to make that question it means that you are from US too.

  • @AngelLestat2 I am in fact from the United States, and your attitude is unnecessary. It is indeed possible to live here and also greatly criticize our own education system and perhaps the way that our our government and it's masses present themselves. I was only curious, I thought your statement was comical. But now I see that you are just simply arrogant.

  • @ayetugger awww is not funny if you respond like that, so serius and good talking. My only choice is say sorry now, it was not funny in this context. I just like when some people get bad. I like the experiment and i dont really think that of these childs. Argentina here, you can counter attack if you want xd

  • @AngelLestat2 No counter attack here, I was never looking for an argument. And you have nothing to be sorry for, if anything, I take back calling you arrogant and I should be sorry. Greetings from the US, Argentina is someplace I've always wanted to travel to. Especially Buenos Aires, so much history, and I am greatly into theater, therefore your capital is a must see..

  • One of the major differences is in this experiment is that children can take verbal instruction, whereas apes usually only have copying to rely on. It may be interesting to do it with children who don't speak the language of the instructor. @SmokiestPanda1 also has a point: tell the children to get the treat as fast as possible and they may solve differently. They were under the assumption/authority to do what the researcher wanted, Apes don't have this social constraint (with humans at least)

  • I'm not so sure that was the apes hands...it never shows you the face and the hands at the same time!

  • Planet of the Apes is REAL!!!

  • The kids saw bit as a game! Didn't you see the facial expreession of the little boy wearing the red shirt? It was amusing and they knew they wouldn't get another chance to play with a cool box like that!

  • The children obviously did all the meaningless stuff in the test because that was what they came there to do. Unlike the chimpansees, the children didn't think that their task was to get the treat, they thought their task was to follow the instructions. If you asked them to get the treat as fast as possible, they might have done the same as the monkeys...

  • 2:29 Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park

  • @L4V0lpe My thought exactly ! XD

  • It's simple, kids believe in magic.

  • Well the chimps are adults you know.

  • i fear that you have used retarded children.

  • Basically, we humans are dumb bitches.

  • The children were copying, even if it meant they were doing something rather silly. Sounds like the cause of religion. Children get brainwashed by their parents, and they will later on in their life see that 'silly thing' called religion as a truth.

  • @laurens678

I tend to think that religion is an anomaly that is partially influenced by ritualistic copying. Other than that, I believe there are far more factors that we have to consider.

  • but its no fun without doing the steps

  • we imitate like slaves cause we're afraid we'll get in trouble...

  • Damn kids. making us look bad :3

  • @HheyHarris the fuck is wrong with you they are just kids. wait until they grow up thats why we are humans even from the start..

  • Why do the chimps get individually wrapped candies and the kids gummy bears that fall on the tabe?

  • oh shit, planet of the apes!

  • its because they're Americans.

    dumb fucks.

  • well those werent baby chimps

  • koko would say SAD,TRICK,TAPP DO NOTHING

  • Why does the description say that the experimenter leaves the room, but in the video, the he's still there?

  • @Kamakazi242012 in the video it's just an reenactment of what the kids are doing THIS ISN'T THE ACTUAL VIDEO OF THAT!

  • Conclusion: We are fucking dumb

  • For the chimps it was all about the "Treat", but for the Kids it was all about the game and about doing it right.

  • The chimps got starbursts and the kids got gummy bears! Those kids got ripped off!

  • did anybody else saw the gorilla.

  • @llortatsujmai explain to me what that joke means please

  • @CcanCcaglar I would, but then i took an arrow to the knee

  • Oh hey i've seen this one before. But instead of gummybears the children got stickers.

  • I wonder if the children's responses are from instinct/ critical thinking or obedience/conditioning.

  • Did anyone notice that everyone in here is watching THE MIND xD?

  • wow..... chimps 1 humans 0

  • WOW i feel bad to be a human

  • @sovaever These kids have been brought up their whole life to not take the easy rode, they have also been told it is apart of the game to follow all of the steps. So what is going through the kids mind is that if they don't follow all of the rules they will not get the candy. Humans are still on top. :)

  • and the moral of the story is that kids are just misunderstood chimps on a never ending quest for gummy bears in this twisted, depressing world

  • and it might as well tie in to the fact that we do teach them so much that they are very dependent. meh. we advanced so much by doing so.

  • first of all, i think this is bias. kids want to be right, and they don't understand what their being tested for. so if they are going to take the needless step to copy, they will, just to make sure they are right. parents/grown ups are their idols. they don't want to seem stupid to them.

  • dont! teach! them! how to use guns! it'll be War of The Apes!!!

  • It's a bit like meme's, the people using them know it isn't funny but they use them over and over again anyway thinking that in some way they will be accepted or gain a "treat".

  • Wouldn't you say that the children did the needless steps in order to prove that they deserve the treat?

  • wow humans are dumb-asses...

  • They are playing a game you studying retards...

  • Hey wait a second... I have seen this before.

  • This explains religious devotion to Freemasonry.

  • - It's clear that children are somewhat afraid of thinking for themselves when there are adults showing them how to do things. They never question why they do it; the only thing the children know is that it actually works. So yes, making children at a young age to think by themselves is the point here. Also it has a little more depth to it since it's actually a human teaching another human. By that I mean it's more important for the kid to learn rather than getting the candy as the ape prefere.

  • i learnt that KIDS ARE STUPID AND WE SHOULD BURN THEM ALL

  • WAOW WEE AR STOOPID!

  • What they kinda tell in the end but not completelly, is that human children have been condinioned that way. Their parents HAVE to mold them into socially acceptable clones since birth, because that's that only way modern society will accept them and help them survive. It has nothing to do with brain power.

  • Its just a matter of time till some douche teach a monkey how to use a gun an Will conquer the world :D

  • @RIZZFTW Hey! Thanks for the good idea! We can send chimps into Afganistan instead of human soldiers. I know we can find some research money for this! Thanks again! -General Thor C. Hawk U.S. Army

  • Before you idiots try to pick holes in the study, read the description first. Stupid people trying to act smart is always funny.

  • @05khanha Thanks. Gets tiring mentioning that every 10 minutes.

  • Lets have a poop throwing contest between the apes and kids. APES WIN!

  • I think that the apes just have more common sense than KIDS.

  • idk about this, i think it shows that the kids are smarter because they did again as they were told, sure the ape skipped needless steps...but the apes wouldn't have done those steps if we told em to, the kids did: so the kids can do more if told

  • I kinda think that the kids were just playing along like it was a game, while the chimps only cared about the candy.

  • The only problem with this test is, the chimps are adults, but the humans are children..

  • Children love puzzles, thats why.

  • did they tell the kids to copy??? or did they just say get the candy?

  • Kids doing what the authority figure tells them even though it is completely useless...

That's how my school is run....

  • Was this the first three minutes of "Rise of the planet of the apes"

  • ukelele boy :D 3:18

  • Stay in school kids...god help you if you don't.

  • Pfff yeah tell the kids to copy you and they will do it give the box to the animal so he can just get the food

  • I don't think it's anything to do with intelligence, it's just children are more likely to copy action for action because someone of authority is showing them to.

  • Asian kid gets the stick and creates a robot out of it...

  • BUT THE KIDS THINK THAT YOU WILL CALL THEM A FUCKING CHEATER!!!!! OMG

  • THis isn't a good test, they should've used young chimps as well

  • You told the children it was a game, of course they copied you.

  • hey told to do what he did right? So the kids just copy it all

  • am i the only one hoping the kids would fail?

  • The children are only aiming to please. It's our nature.

  • Do the apes know to remove the wrapper?!

  • Comment removed

  • Well, that's what humans have to do when they grow up too, work for a boss that in your eyes is 'doing-it-wrong' but he is your boss so you just have to mindlessly follow his lead to get the treat (money)

  • Apes only want starburst, kids want acceptance from elders.... that's why they didn't go straight for the treat

  • stupid kids

  • And that is why religion is so hard to get rid of.

  • As they said at the end, children do see the grown-ups as grown-ups and as their teachers. They also see that, as the guy 'talked' to them, he showed them what to do. The kids, in my opinion, believed that they must do EXACTLY what the guy did, to get their treat, otherwise they were in a case cheating. The chimpanzees were only shown what to do and so they thought that they could just get the treat, save the trouble. They weren't aware that following instructions was important to the task.

  • ishould have kept watching after he asked that question instead of pausing it thinking i know everything.lol

  • its just because kids will do what you tell them as long as you are in a place of authority. they will follow you to there death asuming you know whats best for them.

  • "... that apes don't mindlessly ape."

    Made my day. Good night.

  • its called glass -.-

  • Don't point at the brain, point at soceity.

  • This is so stupid the chimpanzees just wanted the candy wanted to eat, the children were playing didn't care about the candy they didn't even eat it what they did was not silly they are kids, what a waste of time, and a stupid comparison.

  • "Theres a gummy bear!"

  • How many billions of dollars did Obama spend making that box

  • @THEROTATINGFOOT - you are an idiot. GOOD GRIEF. did you really, seriously use a video on zoology and anthropology to make an invalid and POINTLESS political rant? ESPECIALLY since this is extra old and WAAAY before PRESIDENT Obama's term. stop using my oxygen please.

  • C ypay Chill out, I'm just joking. People like you rune all the fun on the internet. You should cut yourself to death after I kill your friends......oh thats right, you have no friends.

  • DICK TITS

  • and where's the magick?! D:

  • After watching those videos about attention, I don't feel that this is entirely fair.

  • There's a gummy bear!

  • the kids did it the way they were told to because most likely they were told by there parents to do whatever the scientist said. the ape's however where simply trying to get the treat.

  • ... so how does one teach one's children not to blindly follow authority? I had a government job once that worked kind of like this: needless steps that had to be followed for no reason other than 'that's the way we do it'.

  • you teach them animals to do a lotta stuff, u gon be sorry when they go smarter.. it's gon be planet o the apes all ova again damn...

  • This study is a proof that studies can be stupid.

  • @galenlynore IF MAYBE the had told the child to just get the candy it would have been different but they told the children to copy them

  • @galenlynore I alrready watched this on tv

  • i wish i had the humor of the youtube community..

  • Its because the kids think they're playing a "game", not just trying to get the treat out.

  • ... that's actually fascinating.

  • It depends on if they said "Get the candy out" or if they said "Do what you did before to get it out"

  • so thats why i dont do my homework?

  • I'll tell you what I learned - Apes eat starbursts.

  • INVISIBLE GORILLA HELL YEAH

  • nooooooooo planet of the apes is coming

  • because children has respect for adults and follow, whereas chimps are like, meh. skip to the chase.

  • human see human do :(

  • We as humans are conditioned to do as we're told like robots.

  • Highest rated comments aren't as smart as chimps ._.

  • idiots...

  • if you would have told the children, what your supposed to do is get the gummy bear. they would have seen that you could have skipped the first steps and go right for the gummy bear. monkeys are awesome.

  • @castrojordan Read the description. The kids WERE told to get the treat "any way they can".

  • Everyone is going on about how its not fair for the children. Its entirely fair, children shouldn't have to mindlessly mimic an adult. The Apes are able to see that they can skip the steps and receive the treat. If anything it shows that children mindlessly mimic, even if they know different they do it anyway. It really should be 'child see child do'.

  • omg kids are better at taking directions than apes!! #mindblown

  • Children are told to follow commands and obey instructions. This is why the children still followed the "useless" steps, and the chimpanzee's didn't.

  • 2:38 lol

  • 2:39 lol

  • It is thought rude in society to disobey instructions - perhaps if there was no adult there, they would just fish out the treat.

  • @TheEstherinator Read the description. This was a re-enactment. In the real experiment, the child was alone in the room with the box when they had to get the treat

  • Must be Americans !

  • The Chimps could well have a higher mental age and therefore understand this more.

  • Our brains are like a learning machine. The kids were taught that way to open it and do so regardless of the box being opaque or transparent

  • This looks like religion behavior, hmm. No it know why apes don't worship Gods :Þ

  • the kids were instructed that the game was about the box. they followed instructions for the game. they weren't trying to just get the treat.

  • Hey guys please watch the second video before commenting lol that way you learn the real reason instead of writing all this stupid comments posted here so far :)

  • it could also be that they really don't care about the gummy bare. if there was cocaine in there and they were addicted to cocaine i guaranty they would skip strate to it. this is a very flawed studdy...

  • GYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • so point blank this is proof that the idea of schooling is faulty and we need to let kids figure shit out for them selves rather than teach them everything

  • Comment removed

  • the way the man was talking to the kids and TELLING them the instructions, as if that was what they had to do. and being with a new person they have been taught to be polite by their parents so they didnt ask any questions and did what they were told. i don't think it's how we naturally think, it's how we were raised to think. i really doubt the apes were raised with manners.

  • If the chimpanzee are SO ALIKE to us humans, how come we have never seen half chip/half human one tho this far in life/time? Or something that more human then chimp?Flame me if you like, but give me a good reason. AND NO dont drag religion into this, because im not.

  • So the top part of the box is like a college education?

  • The children obviously think that it's what they're supposed to do - not because that's how they get the gummy bear, but because that's how they were told to do it. They're playing along with a game about a special box. The only thing it proves is that the children listen to the adults and want to "do it right".

To be honest, I would have probably done the same thing, tapping with the sticks and everything just to play along. And that's coming from someone who studies theoretical physics.

  • Study is incorrect.

The guy ruined it by talking to the children while the women just showed them.

  • Aww. I wanna Starburst now. :/

  • i bet the asian kid could of made a transformer out of the boxes

  • there should be a chocolate bar or something...

  • This just shows that chimps are more pragmatic, they open the box for the treat. Kids on the other hand just wanna have fun, not eat 1 pathetic gummy bear.

  • they said its a special box this seems so badly done

  • Anyone notice they took an asian kid for the test...I see what you did there ;)

  • I think it's more because chimps just want the treat, while a kid understands that the psychologist wants him to do it a certain way. Psychologist should tell the kid "You can get the treat by any means necessary" or in some way explain to the kid that him getting the treat is the only important part.

  • Of course the children dont skip this step! The Apes wont get any anger if they skip it, but kids were behaved that if they dont to what they were told to, they get anger

So what? Its not because they're stupid, its because they are clever and dont want any anger -.- really does anyone think they are that stupid?

  • @FIashbird

It's a research study, anger doesn't solve their questions. That's the reason why they are doing all that in the first place anyway. They are scientists not their parents

  • @FIashbird no humans are stupid

  • @FIashbird exactly.

  • @FIashbird ** The child is instructed to get the reward any way they can, then the experimenter leaves the room. The test is filmed. When the child is successful, they say "I have got it!" and the experimenter returns to the room and gives them their reward. - Sorry but did you even read this?

  • @FIashbird I'm pretty sure the point of the study was to identify the influence authority figures have in the mind of a human child. No one is saying they're stupid or that chimps are smarter than human children. It's about influence and the role it plays in development.

  • @FIashbird What anger would the child receive for altering something? For trying something different? Growing up, if I was shown one method, but found that another worked equally as well, if not better, I was praised for catching on quickly, not spurned and given shit. Are there really parents out there that shame their offspring for being innovative?

  • @kaytabbi I totally agree. How does that comment get 89 likes?

  • the parents:shit,my child is stupider than a chimp

  • It's not entirely fair. CHildren are thought from an early age to follow commands - even if they're wrong. At home if the child didn't do the dishes exactly as they're told, they might get given out to.

  • @LiveLifeLoveLamp thats the point...

  • @LiveLifeLoveLamp I agree

  • @LiveLifeLoveLamp ...and that's why the researcher said it *SEEMS* like the children were outsmarted but that the children view the researcher "as a grown up perhaps a teacher"...which directly relates to what you are saying...doing what an authority figure tells you...this video was poorly edited...i also take issue with the assertion that great apes don't teach...there's a 20 year old video, probably in the right hand playlist, which shows Kanzi trying to teach a young bonobo language
