i love this film soooo much!! ever since i was a kid and still to this very day i still love it...im goin on 25 but still watch it as it gives me that XMAS feeling!! sad when the snowman melts tho! lol
I remember I liked this movie as a boy when I watched it with my dad. I'm 21 now and it has much more of an impact on me, especially the ending. The music is truly wonderful.
I remember when I was a child I didn't understood why my nanny cried at the end of the cartoon... now I'm 20 and it's so difficoult stopping tears... amazing!
This really feels like it was made in a different, more innocent world. That's truly why it makes me sad: not because the snowman melts (all good things end), but because nothing like this will ever be made again. I hope it's repeated forever.
i have a book of this which i read to my 1 year old. she loves it. she hugs me when we came to the page of the boy and snowman hugging. she holds my hand when they hold hands. she lifts her arms to be picked up when they go flying.
luckily she has yet to understand the sadness of the story's conclusion. for myself, when i read it to her for the first time i was shocked when i came to the end! talk about bittersweet!
but it undoubtedly takes the story to a higher plane of the human condition.
I'm 20 years old and this is the first time I've seen this. I was a big fan of the Nightiwsh versaion of this song, which led me to find the version in here, which led to me wanting to watch the video.
I must say this ending, though beautiful and profound, is utterly depressing.
I was ready to cry! I'm 20 years old for goodness sake!
Other than the ending, which made me want to break down and cry, this video is pretty good.
This drawing together with bunny Peter says he can have an impact on my life!
I feel like crying to anger just as I forgot who I am with the weather, from a nice kid, smart enough and I am a loser cocalar and many others! Sorry, I hope I found soon!
Did you ever see this a kid? It's not the same if you only see it as an adult although that's still no excuse. This thing broke my heart time and time again. It still does, I still find it really hard to watch. Then again I know I'm a very sensitive person...
I can safely say this movie had a profound impact on my life.
Funny how I didn't truly realize it until today....18 years later....
I study game art/3D/2D animation/ and have been drawing all my life and I'd give anything to create something so beautiful. 5:47 on is just so heart breaking to watch....and when the little boy drops to his knees it's even more heart wrenching. Strange how a cartoon can make a 24 year old man cry tears down his face...I guess nothing has changed since I was 6...
From 5:32 on can make me cry almost as much as I did when I was 6 years old.
5:46 is where it gets really really hard to watch.....This movie actually traumatized me as a kid. To this day I'm an unbeleivably sensitive person and I owe a lot of that to this movie and the song Walking In The Air. I still find this so heartbreaking... I wouldn't wanna show this to my kids one day cuz I fear it'd somehow mess them up too. Being so sensitive to movies or anything isn't something I'm sure I want..
the ending is so sad....i was crying silently for quite awhile even after the movie ended. i love this movie though...it rightly deserves 10 stars out of 5
that is the most beautiful christmas movie ever. i always cry without fail at the end. though the music is supposed to be happy, it has a melancholy edge that makes you think the snowman knows he's going to be gone in the morning.
the desire to live in such a beautiful fantasy and having the snowman die in the end makes this such a bitter sweet tale, i well up with tears every time i see this or hear the song "walking in the air",i imagine myself as that little boy 16 years ago- remembering the days of childhood innocence and bliss
the music is fantastical, and then the animation is good but seems true and real and worthwhile, i mean credible.
Its a very belittled trait, but making something that seems loved is just gone nowadays.
I really do think that the 80's and early 90's say the end of imagination and real vision, now now, creativity costs 170% more, credibility costs 200% more and effort costs the accountant his home in france. Why cant i meant passionate people?
I heard Chloe from 'Celtic Women' sing the main song (mind you I'm 22 and I watched this last in my single didgets) and when I heard it I just knew it sounded familiar and it bugged me every time I heard it on that CD. FINALLY I told my mom we had to get this movie (we got it from the library) and I watched it and sure enough, the song was from this movie! Funny how certain things stay with you :) Thanks for posting btw!
yea I never knew who sung the origional, just when I heard Chloe sing it it brought up a memory that I couldn't quite grasp until I thought of this movie. It was just so cool to rent it again after so many years and hear that memory once again :)
I also want to say thanks for posting! I used to watch this as a kid. I had a vague idea of how the melody to "walking on the air" went but I couldn't completely remember. It was nice to hear it again.
I believe that at the ending, when the our perspective changes as we drift further away from the boy and the melted snowman, the boy resembles an old man kneeling at a grave (the lump of snow)
I've been watching this movie ever since I was born pretty much, it came out before I was born. We have it on video, and I try and watch it every year. It's one of my favorites, right up there with A Muppet Christmas Carol.
What kind of cruel person would end a story this way? Seriously! It's similar to dog movies, where the dog dies at the end after all these happy times. GG!
i watch this every year Channel 4 shows it on Christmas Eve and do the usual cry too , this always affect me no matter how old i get, not just the ending, even the happy bits like going back to childhood with fond memories or something.
every year i see it tho, i always forget certain bits like this cheerful Snowmans dance and the fab folky catchy music that accompanys it!
It's been almost two decades since I last watched the ending. It's too sad - I didn't think my heart could take it, and it couldn't. It should have been rated a 15cert.
Only an Englishman could write a children's story with an ending like that.
I suppose on the one hand it seems brutal and cruel but it is also beautiful and poignant too, the magic of childhood imagination evaporated in the harsh light of the morning sun.
i love this movie it will probly never leave my heart or mind this bringsme back to when i was like 5 years old and still new in the states it was some thig i looked 4 werd 2 waching every christmas but this year i missed it when it was on or i dont think they showed it this movie all ways makes my cry in the end but i wall alwas love waching it <3
i will never thank you enough for putting this online
i'm feeling like i'm 5 again, and i just cried my eyes out...
all of you, who understand the beauty of this movie, always remember that we will always be these little kids we used to be. Childhood is such a wonderfull thing, i will never lose it.
Out of all the books, TV, films, games and music I've ever consumed only The Little Prince, the last ever episode of Blackadder and The Snowman have ever really brought tears to my eyes. How do they do it?
This is by far the best ever Christmas Film i have ever seen. It brings back great memories of when i was a child watching this, shame we have to grow up, the world we live in now is pants.
My Fvaorite Christmas story.I like that David Bowie narates the beginning.Great art and music.Spur the imagination.Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
How can it be the North Pole? They fly SOUTH from Sussex, over Brighton and out into the Sea, which is going the long way round to get to the North Pole!
It makes me cry too!!! im 22 and since i was little...it always has made me cry..the melting snowman bit...i have a propper snowman with the same hat and i have to cuddle him when i watch it...sad i know but...
This story is a brilliant example of how the art of telling a story with music & pictures can stir the human emotions within us all. Pure innocence of childhood. How beautiful, how out of reach, but for memories.
God we can all use a little more of it these days. Merry Christmas to all!
Has anyone ever noticed the clock next to his bed? it changes from & o'clock (when he goes to bed) to 8 o'clock, i had no idea he had been out the whole night, also the fact he melted in only an hour is so awful!
possibly the most heartbreaking bit i think is when they hug and wave goodbye, especially when you know what's yet to come :-(
The song gives me goosbumps aswell very emotional and beautiful movie ever love it so much. When i grow up it will bring memories because this is a film that i think nearly everyone loves and crys at the end including me which im a kid. Still too sad because he spent a wonderful time and the snowman was his friend and a magical friend and they had a amazing time then he melts and that time they had together was like treasure and then the treasure had to be buried and its just toooo sad
They are showing this on channel 4 at 3pm till 3:30 on the 24th of xmas 2008 obviously and the end every single time i watch it makes me cry. Christmas wont be christmas if they dont show the snowman. Its my favourite christmas 'movie' Ever well cartoon i think well i dno its just my fav. Elf is too but this comes first the end is just tooooo sad i always cry alot of people do my sis is 21 and she says it brings alot of memories.
i do find the end of the film very emotional, even at 35 (believe it or not). it isnt just the melting of the snowman which makes people cry, it's the loss of friendship, imagining when we were younger and the excitement of building a snowman and juxtaposing it with the character in the programme. couple that with the atmosphere and soundtrack of the film makes it a very emotional and moving film.
sooo that song and montage of the kid and the snowman. That did nothing for ya eh? I'm a 25 year old guy, and that shit brings me to tears every time.
havent seen this since i cant even remember... im 18 now and i definately cried more than i thought i would, thank you soo much for putting this up it really brings me back. i wish the ending didnt have to be so sad :(
now i know its xmas as ive watched the snowman, i have watched it every year for as long as i can remember classic. i am going on a hunt to show it to my nephews and when i have children they will definately be watching it. very educational too! NikoKun i think i remember something like that but it may be just cause you have put the idea into my head, i dont se why they would have changed it
Not sure if I'm remembering this right, because it's been so long since I saw it originally... But in the scene with the girl looking out the window, and her picture of Santa flying with his deer... I remember an extra bit, which I can't find anywhere, in which after she's seen the boy flying with the snowman, she changes the picture of Santa to a picture of the snowman flying with the boy.
He might melt, but im sure he comes back again! You know wht this is so beautiful?....because its a nice world that is kind and inocent, unlike the world we now live in.
i adore this!!! it brings back memories of when i was little! thanks for putting this on youtube. i might have a go at singing this in the xmas hols before xmas eve. the ending is so sad it made me cry! lol cya xxx
oh god so hood i played it at a nursery i work at and there were only the adults that cried even me at the ending. its so sad thanks for uploading it even though its been over a year lol
It's called Walking in the Air. Several versions been done over the years, but the two most famous ones are by Peter Auty, whom sang the original, and by Aled Jones whom I think got more recognition in the media than Peter. Hope that helps :)
Heard a version of The Snowman song at a pub in Dubai while with my parents and came home and watched this on You Tube. Can't believe it was made in 1982.
Very fond memories of this film. I actually live in Dubai and there is no chance of snow but watching this gave me that snowy, Christmasy feeling. Cheers
i love this film soooo much!! ever since i was a kid and still to this very day i still love it...im goin on 25 but still watch it as it gives me that XMAS feeling!! sad when the snowman melts tho! lol

You are so right Ankeshed.
I'm from Denmark, and I watched The Snowman the 24. of dec. when i was a kid.
I love the story, the music and somewhat also the sadness of it all.
It reminds us all, to cheerish thoose moments in live, that are so special. They can be gone in a glimpse.
I ordered The Snowman on Dvd. So my son can watch it. I think it makes a man more humble to life if he get's the story underneath his skin.
Looking forward to seeing it again.
Take care guys.

I love this film, still!
& yes it does make me cry at the end.
& for those of you who don't understand why people cry?
Probably because its tradition every year for most people to watch it.
It brings out so many memories and I can't help but cry! Plus the endings a tad sad!! :(

...I dont get why you guys cry over a melted snowman..
dylanfan16 3 years ago
i do find the end of the film very emotional, even at 35 (believe it or not). it isnt just the melting of the snowman which makes people cry, it's the loss of friendship, imagining when we were younger and the excitement of building a snowman and juxtaposing it with the character in the programme. couple that with the atmosphere and soundtrack of the film makes it a very emotional and moving film.

sooo that song and montage of the kid and the snowman. That did nothing for ya eh? I'm a 25 year old guy, and that shit brings me to tears every time.

Does anyone else remember that?

It's the only Western animated movie I've seen that looks and sounds like Soviet one.
And the boy that sings is wonderful.
I cried.

Cheers
