@gorillazhead Roger Waters is touring through 2013. Peter Gabriel still makes music. Genesis toured in '07. Procol Harum pop up every once in a while. The Moody Blues still tour, as does Jethro Tull. There's talk of an ELP tour. Rush have a new album out in May. Prog is not dead.
@HippieDude1414 I am going to go ahead and thumb your comment down just so you don't become a top comment and break them up, because you are absolutely right.
hay muchas bandas de progresivo y todas tienen su particularidad, no puedo comparar porque todas tienen un alto nivel. King crimson es una de esas bandas que no tienen puntuación porque la que le des se sale de la lista.
One of the best Crimson records. Pushing boundaries and adapting to what was the present in 1995. Precursor to the Radiohead revolution, without a doubt. Even if Yorke and Co. won't admit it.
@degree7 Clearly not. In the end, the prog bands survived and prospered. And what those punk bands? All gone. Punk was merely a temper tantrum thrown by those that couldn't hope to compete either compositionally or instrumentally.
Punk had a huge influence on a majority of the artists in the New Wave era. For EX. The Police, The Clash, Elvis Costello, Blondie, Tom Petty, The Jam, Joy Division, The Pretenders, REM, XTC
All of those artists I mentioned released critically acclaimed in the punk vein, and while their initial beginnings could be considered simplistic, they rapidly grew into creating more complex arrangements and songwriting. This birthed Alternative music, still in use today.
Haha, agreed. You got all those poor commenters! The Mars Volta's the only other band that I would define 'prog', as opposed to a half-psychedelic theme band with some instrumental freakage and less 4/4 than usual rock bands. Although that -is- great. But not prog.

Punk rock.

@degree7 You know what took the dinosaurs' place?
Mammals. But we wouldn't win in a fight. Punk bands appeal to the human aspects, but they cannot compete with prog in terms of raw musicality.
