@bleviee thank you for saying that. It means so much to me and to others that have been abused. It breaks my heart to know just how many people have been affected by abuse.
To all others that have been sexually abused like me remember that we are stronger now because we know that we can bounce back from something like this.
@countrymusicfreak18 You're very welcome! I meant every word I said. The strength that my best friend showed in leaving is something that I don't think I could ever have on my own, but she did. She's the only woman on Earth that I respect as much as I respect my mother, because they're the two strongest women I've ever had the honor to know. The strength it takes a relationship like that is absolutely incredible.
@countrymusicfreak18 you are absolutely right. in bouncing back, moving on with our lives, and showing others that life hasn't broken us makes us all stronger. any type of abuse, whether it be sexual or not, takes its toll on even the strongest of people. it breaks you down in a way that nothing else can or will. but to rise above it, to walk away and live your life unafraid shows true strength. my hat is off to you and to all the others, including myself, that have been or are being abused.
(1/2) While I'm fortunate in that I've never been sexually or physically abused, like so many commenters on this song, my best friend, my "sister," was. And even though she leaned on me and on a very dear friend of hers, a man she wound up marrying, it was her that came through. She found her halo again and she learned to shine. To all of you who have been through it or are going through it now, you aren't alone. Someone in your life cares, and even if they don't, I do. You're in my prayers
(2/2) and my thoughts and I hope you understand how beautiful and strong you really are. I know this song was written about Big Kenny's sister, which I why I love it so much, because it's about my sister, too. I hope that one day, you find someone with healing arms, and they help you find your halo again. God bless.
@bleviee thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful words. Being abused or in an abusive relationship is something that so many out there don't and just can't understand. Unless you have been through it yourself or you know someone who has, you cannot fathom the depths of pain that it leads to. It is an experience that will break even the strongest person completely until they are left as a shadow of themselves. I spent 5 months in an abusive relationship. I left 4 months ago, and am just now
@bleviee finding my way back to myself thanks in large part to the wonderful friends and family support I have in my life. There are more victims of abuse out there than people realize simply because of the fact that it's still not politically correct for it to be discussed. And those that do come forward are often blamed for the abuse or told they are stupid for staying/going back. Abuse is effective in large part because of the fear that it instills. Rising above that fear takes strength.
@draimanfan1984 You're absolutely right about why people don't understand. Information about recognizing and knowing how to prevent abuse needs to be more widespread, more than just handing us a "cycle of abuse" chart in high school. It took my best friend telling me what was going on; I should have known before that.
I'm so sorry to hear that you were ever treated like that but I'm so very proud of you for leaving. Stay strong, my new friend.
i remeber listening to this song when i was little and it came on the radio, and i didnt know what it meant, and i just listened to it again, and i finally understand the meaning, and its still a great song.

Someone ran away with my innocence too. It will never leave us, we are the ones who get on with our lives and never let it get to us until we are alone, throughout the day we are normal people with no problems in life. When we get home we wrap ourselves in a blanket, turn on songs like this and cry. We are the strongest kind of people and should never forget that, we put on a brave face though we are stuck in the past as the world moves on around us. xx
I had forgotten all about this song. Beautiful song! I remember when this came out. The official video is amazing! Can so relate of this. Thankfully God freed me from that yrs ago.
this is such a good song, kudos to big and rich. they did a nice job. this song is great for helping to heal. it has helped me immensely. this song is my story and my past.
I know how it is to be raped. I was 19, in the military, and was told I would not be believed. 21 years after it happened, I told the guy I ended up being with six weeks after the rape what happened. I wish I'd told him then what happened... it would not have taken those 21 years for him to learn of my darkest secret. He still loves me after all these years. Thank you Big Kenny for such a powerful song which helped ME to heal! <3
this song means alot to me because my gf went through alot of shit and im glad shes mine now and never has to go through it again amazing song though these guys are amazing thanks for the video
@techn9ne122089 --- this was my song for a number of years once I heard it. Not only did I think it was probably the best of theirs from that album, I related to it on so many levels.
Well, within the past few years, I found my someone who understands. I'm am glad your girlfriend has found the same in you. When you're damaged goods, it helps when you can find the one person in the world that understands you, what you've been through, and is there to help you through the rest of life.
@techn9ne122089 same here bro...i understand completely what you guys are working with...same thing happened to my gf.....and cause of me that bastard is rotting in prison for 45 years
I can really relate to this song. It mkaes me cry everytime i hear it and even though it was physical abuse from my ex and not sexually, this song still means so much to me.
