On top of that, the "brake test" was unfair since you do not know that those 2 different people pressed the brake pedal at the same time. Chevrolet wins hands down and always will. there is no comparing the fusion and the malibu. the fusion wins hands down. i drove them both and the malibu cant touch the fusion in looks, handling, and power. the only way to find what you like is go take them for a ride. dont believe what others say. legroom was also something i needed, and the fusion had more, both front and back.

I hope Ford did better for 2011. CAR and DRIVER reviewed the 2010 SEL equipped with a V6 and they stated the following: "When it came to braking, though, the Ford was terrible. A stopping distance of 203 feet from 70 mph was bad enough, but we suffered fade almost immediately. The Honda needed 187 feet and didn’t suffer from fade, and a Mazda 6 V-6 on the same tires recorded 165 feet. It seems as if Dearborn has been scrimping on one of the most important systems in an automobile."

First of all, I'm not looking to buy a car to drive on the track. The brake test is completely unfair in that the Fusion was equipped with better wheels and better rubber. This makes a huge difference in stopping ability. I am on the fence as to which car to buy. That snickering little weasel driving the Fusion turns me off as there is no head-to-head comparison; just a glance at the Malibu sitting off in the distance. The Malibu is just an unpleasant piece of crap to him.

I watched another one of his videos where he knocks OnStar for navigation vs. getting the NAV system with the Fusion. Oh, he forgot to mention that you cannot get the NAV system on the base model, so you will have to buy the SEL model and pay an additional $1880.00. OK, he did mention that it is a one time cost vs. a monthly charge for the useless OnStar, however. At least someone at OnStar can send out a tow truck or medical assistance if you don't like turn-by-turn directions.

In my opinion, both cars have likes and dislikes. I'm not thrilled about the fact that Chevy ends up forcing you to buy the Compact Spare Tire and Jack Assembly for $100 and you also end up getting stuck buying the Body-Color Bodyside Moldings for $150. I doubt you will find a car on the lot without either of these options already installed. They should be included.

I like the Fusion, but I'm prefectly happy with my 04 Malibu. The Malibu in my opinion is my all time favorite. Alot of power, alot of room in the trunk as well as the back seats, the breaks are excellent, the gas mileage is good for me (~22-36 mpg)(though Fusion is probably ALOT more), and the steering is very fluid. My car has electric power steering, and I kindof have a lazy driving arm because it is just rediculously easy to control. It's also EXCELLENT in snow!

I see the difference in breaking being: the Fusion has sport tires while the Malibu has the base steelies.

Also the Malibu is no b-roller, but yeah the Fusion has a sportier edge due to its suspension setup.

I dont want to get in to vehicle problems especially turbos. any maker that has turbos on their motors are going to have problems period. It is just going to be endless.

About that ford running with Merc. Its actually a Loncoln( v 6) vs Merc, BMW, Jag and Aston(all v 8's) (check out 6 versus 8 speed channel video) . The only vehicle the Linc lost against was the BMW. VERY impressive for a north american car! FORD all the way.

he is braking while turning, which puts massive stresses on the chassis. so, its really a brake and chassis test. the chassis hold up great. compared to the malibu, it is built much better. the fusion, and any new ford is very well build.

i owned a malibu, and i hated it. id take a ford over a chevy any day.

And I would like to add that I have years experience driving both of these cars in both their 4 and 6 cylinder configurations and they are both very good cars. I work for a rental car company and would use whatever car I wanted, when I wanted. I have a lot of experience with different types of cars in both city and cross-country driving. The Fusion 4 is not faster than the Malibu 6 but probably is faster than the Malibu 4.

You know why the Honda costs slightly more? Because it KEEPS it's value and is better made compared to the fusion. Drive both trims for the same amount of miles. Then when it's time to trade them in. You will notice that the accord is wort a couple thousand more that the Fusion. And that it had a lower cost of ownership.
