We have two blind Ring-Neck Doves; one's name is "Lonesome", we got him four years ago from a friend; but the other one we raised from birth and they do very well in the cage together. They lead normal lives and know where their food and water is. We give them vitamins and take good care of them. See more about our pet birds and animals on my channel at Dragonrider65. Hope all the other animal lovers enjoy what they get to see in the people here who also love and care for our animals?
That is amazing, how does he find his food? can they smell the food and water or do you help him each day? He must be able to do it on his own being his age yea?
I used to have a morning dove, His name was samuel and we used to let him free in the house, and in the morning exactly a 7 he would come up to me and start pecking my eyes, lol, he used to do that every morning but he died of old age.
Please....is there any info u can give me on the habbits of blind birds, diffrent ways to feed them and give them water? Reason i ask is that my Bird seems to be losing his sight, and it's really troubling me. Please help me in any way possible.
I did a few things to help him out. First, I replaced his paper with this cardboard stuff you can get at most pet stores. Better on their feet (since they wont be on a purch much). I also included one oversized (but with lots of bark/grip) perch, really low to the ground. His food bowl, as you can tell, is a huge tupperwear thing. I also dip his beak into a thimble of water (by holding the cup to his beak, not actually touching him)
Does your bird still wistle at all? becuz mine is jus screeching when sum1 comes close to him. I think he's still in shock from losin his ey sight, and is still trying to get used to it. It's so sad to see him like this....he used to be so active.
thanks for caring !

This makes me sad, but I'm also happy that you've been able to give him a life that he would not have had otherwise...

They can live as long as 30, but it's really rare.
