Shostakovich was a great composer who fights "Artistically" against Stalin and Hitler and all authoritarism! And for him was the same thing to call this symphony "The year of 1917" or "My new experiment in music"...

The right conductor, but surely not the correct orchestra! I don't recognise any of the players

Nice interpretation though and probably my favourite of Shostakovich's symphonies and a great pity it's not played often.

@pitbull2005 This is the Simon Bolivar Orchestra which is the national orchestra of Venezuela. They look like a normal orchestra with people in their forties and fifties. The teenage orchestra plays almost as well, Teresa Carreno Youth Orchestra.

The confusion is in the name of the orchestra in the heading ... 'Director Christian Vasquez Sinfonica de la Juventud Venezolana "Simon Bolivar" ' - Juventud means 'youth'. I think the person who uploaded the video got it wrong.

They have of course 2 youth orchestras, the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, which I have seen live and the Teresa Carreno, which is travelling to Europe this year, for the first time :)

Yes... somehow the most underrated of all his `symphonies.

@maynardgravy Underrated indeed. Only because of ideological reasons. It glorifies the Russian Revolution. This is an epic symphony the best in my opion.
