  • this man has inspired me so much sinc i saw it a little over 2 years ago on Broadway I have searched high and low for a recording of him singing this... He can sing but not only that he can act! i someday wish 2 sing on Broadway and most of that is due 2 him. When i saw him sing this i cryed beacuse of how beautiful it was

  • Alex is amazing. I saw him on Broadway and not only his voice was beautiful, but his acting was incredible. He was so emotional during his singing - he was sobbing; with tears streaming down his face. His performace was so incredible, my husband and I flew back from Indiana a second time just to see him again.

  • I am shocked that this man is only 28 years old. In total and utter shock. He is incredible. And from what I've heard, an AWESOME person.

  • I saw him sing this live. I was crying.

  • me 2 it still makes me cry every time i listen 2 it

  • He has a better voice than Colm Wilkinson, but Colm has great acting talent!

  • Colm has some crazy ass eyes in all his roles ;) Love it!!

  • I fell in love with Alex voice, he is just fantastic.

  • hes so young! born in 1979!

  • wtf! A 29 years old Jean Valjean! That's amazing! And his voice is really good.

  • he looks much older!

  • He's good, yes, but I don't really like his approach to the song. My favorite is still JOJ. He may not be the actor that Colm Wilkinson is, but his voice makes me gay for the duration of whatever song he happens to be singing. It's magnificent.

  • I don't know... did you seem him on Broadway? His interpretation here, methinks, was meant for a solo performance. The Broadway one was quite amazing.

  • He's my favorite Jean Valjean!!! Amazing!!! I saw him on Broadway and he was soooooo good!!!

  • Wonderful

  • Amazing...

  • omg!!!I saw him on Broadway and he captured my heart!!!I absolutely fell in love with him!!!It was soooo amazing..I cried like 10 times!!..and this song..o man!!!..and the rest of the cast..max von essen, lea salonga, and sooo many other very talented people!!!Man I wish they did a revival recording of Les Mis!!Amazing..amazing...wow!

  • oooooo....WHY DIDN'T THEY MAKE A REVIVAL CAST RECORDING??!! I mean, with all the random recordings out there, you'd think a re-emergence on Broadway would warrant another...I don't even care if it's with Daphne RubinVega...Norm Lewis, Alexander Gemignani, Aaron Lazar, and everyone else would make it more than worth it!

  • o my god i love him!i saw him on Broadway and completely fell in love with him.i think he is the best Jean Valjean or at least one of the best.i dont like colm.

  • Wow, he is amazing. I saw him live in New York and loved his performance.

  • Alex was a very good Valjean (and a world-class sprayer - first five rows needed umbrellas).

But Colm Wilkinson was and always will be Jean Valjean!

And as for the 2nd best I've seen --- JOJ IS COMING TO BROADWAY!!!!

  • Alex = The. Sex.

    :)

  • This man is an amazing singer and AMAZING actor. He was brilliant when I saw him. I don't really like Drew as Jean Valjean (he looks/sounds WAY too young, I miss Alex!

  • I think I'm falling in love with Alex...this is a great perfprmance!

  • I've seen Les Miz over 20 times and in 4 different languages(I used to bring students every year)...and Alex just ripped my heart out both times I saw him! His entire performance was so thoughtful, and it's great to hear all the words...some of those british accents were a bit much.Matter of fact - everyone in this revival really has great dictionand acts well(I'm not talking about Daphne...I mean Lea). Poor Daphne...you're not supposed to hear cheering when Fantine dies - are you?

  • I enjoyed your comment. I've seen Les Miz many (but not 20) times, in the West End, OBC, other BW casts, several tours & final nat. tour). Daphne was painfully miscast. Loved the cheering comment. Perfect metaphor! Overall, I thought the (pre-Lea) revival was below par/rough. Celia was great. I also noticed the diction was excellent (better than I've heard before). Of course, the show is always changing, so we never know what will happen tomorrow!

  • i love this song, and he does it beautifully

  • alex was awesome ill miss him does anyone know how drew is doing as valjean

  • Excellent!

  • He's not even close to his best here; that's the scary part. Compared to how he was when I saw this, he sounds like he has strepp throat. Why on Earth won't they release a recording of this revival?! It's better than the original in every way except Fantine (Daphne Ruban-Vega...blech). That's it, I'm downloading this flash and ripping the audio off of it.

  • Nice voice! Can't wait to see "Les Miz" when I'm in New York.

  • ONE MORE THING.....Alex Gemignani's voice is SOOOOOOO CLEAR!!!!!!!!!

  • this was such a gorgeous, satisfying performance! and Alex Gemignani has this amazing face, where you know he's young, yet he has this sense of being aged and mature at the same time. he's a performer i can't take my eyes off of! <3 :D

  • aaaahhhh i LOVE Alex Gemignani!!!!! and to think that he's ONLY 28 YRS OLD and can play such a challenging mature role so beautifully!!!!! i can't to wait to see him july 4th (my b-day) in Les Mis!

  • I totally agree with you. He was absolutely enchanting. Have a great day.

  • this performance made me cry. so heart felt!!! and incredible voice

  • sylvesterbird- as long as it's not JOJ ;)

  • Aww, our widdle Beadle's all grown up and singing at the Drama Desk Awards. ^_^

  • I think it's "let him be, let him live"...

  • What does he say at 3:20? It was supposed to be "let him live," but I heard something like "let him gieeee..."

  • Yes it's pretty clear he sing "let him be, let him live" Why the hell would he sing "let him live, let him live"?

  • yeah! he said "let him gieeeee..."

  • Mmm...When he crescendos into the "Bring him home" and "let him live" his vowels are kinda spread.

He did a good job, but I've heard this song done better. It was beautiful on the pianissimos tho

  • he is AMAZING... and so young! I saw him on bway a few months ago and was blown away!

  • sylvesterbird, I totally agree. He was brilliant.

  • i was speechless for 10 mins after this song when i saw him live. he is the best valjean i've ever seen or heard.

  • darn he did a good job. arrrg lea was supposed to be the one to do a prod for Les miz, but i she was sick that day. that's a bummer! nontheless AG represented the company so well. bravo!

  • you can kill me for this if you want, but i seriously like alex gemignani's valjean better than colm wilkinson's....

  • boy are you wrong there...

  • no seriously. gimignani's voice is not quite so...heavy? i don't know the word for it, but in the 10th anniversary recording colm wilkinson's voice could get kind of screechy. just my opinion, but there you go

  • You're right. I loved it. I think his voice has much more flavor to it than Colm's.

  • Colm has always been pretty terrible. I've never understood the mass devotion to him.

  • thank you a person with a brain on youtube colm sucks

  • COLM IS MEDIOCRE

  • You are right. He is great.
