  • Where were those birds on 9/11? Jerking off.

  • "have you ever heard those words in some other aspect of your life" .... LOL that was so funny!

  • @KhanAcademyFarsi LOL absolutely hilarious!

  • I love these two! How funny is Jeff? He completely cracks everybody up.

  • @marianware most pilots have a good sense of humor.. i thijk you need to when in the face of these kinds of situations.. cudos to them for staying calm they dont really even properly train for water landings the idea being you wont survive anyways

  • lol the laughing is hilarious!

  • captain Sullenberger seems being such a cool & humble man to me.

  • Angry birds game was made after this crash

  • 7 Birds ran into this video

  • Even cracked up Dave! Thumbs up for Dave inviting and having them guest on his show!

  • If you read the cockpit voice recorder transcript from the accident report there's even more comedy between these two. They actually have a discussion about company procedure on which engine to start first. Just before the landing, Sully asks Skiles if he has any good ideas. Skiles answer, "Actually, no."

  • @nocalsteve haha!!! Thanks for sharing that!!

  • damn those 5 birds thumbs down the video

  • that's true. I failed. lmao!

  • They look like beautifull experts. One the funny and the other one the calm. Both experts in their ways.. matching perfect together.

  • The co-pilot is funny! That was great!

  • @x8296x you are so right!!! It takes 2 to fly that kind of aircraft! The Co-Pilot was helping Sully and in turn they BOTH saved those passengers! They are funny btw :)

  • funny shit

  • 1:00 laughing explosion

  • If you are a pilot, don't tell Sully and his crew that "I can't land this plane (whatever it is) due to weather, etc.." He really doesn't wanna hear that shit.:)

  • Thats true I failed, Luckily, I wasn't the one taking control of the plane, lol

  • I played a Miracle on the Hudson flight sim game and made it to Teterboro. Just sayin'

  • @IdiotForPalin Impressive. Why aren't you on Letterman instead of these guys?

  • @Anticyclonic I know it's BS. Something about how when I did it, it was "just" a videogame.

  • @IdiotForPalin well aren't you special.

  • These guys don't make enough money for the amount of training, time spent away from family; not to mention, spending a lot of your personal free time commuting. I read Sullenberger only makes $100,000 ($110,000, tops). The average stagehand salary and benefits package at NYC Lincoln Center is $290,000 a year!

  • This is the first time I've heard the co-pilot talk and he cracked me up!!! What a funny guy! What a crew! These guys deserve a bonus!

  • the co-pilot is brilliant. funny guy.

  • I need that mustache.

  • @x8296x Well, because he failed!

  • "Im more than tired of telling this story" and i would be also

  • Fayul!

  • @metfankrizz raywilliamjohnson.

  • They look exactly like what I imagine the "typical pilots" look like. They're so relaxed and the co-pilot is just so darn funny!

    "That's true, I failed" FTW!

  • lmfao the co-pilot needs to get into comedy

  • That's true, I failed!

  • @x8296x

Thats because he's the co-pilot. He wasn't the big man calling the shots.

  • First officer is a funny guy, Why was his face not all over the news with the captain?

  • :D The co-pilot is a funny guy!!

  • Let's see....

There was Laurel & Hardy, Abbot & Costello, cheech & Chong, and now?????

    Sully & Skiles!!!

  • 00:35 LMFAO!!!!!

  • Thumbs up if you laughed @ 1:02 just seeing Captian Sully's response to FO Skiles comment, "That's true, I failed."

  • 1:17pm Saturday (EDT) - Time in New York, United States of America

  • This is why I love pilots always have a sense of humor and be serious at the same time. Now compare them to a cop or a security guard, its hard to get those people to laugh.

    God bless these pilots

  • @LSBonnPower and they have a MUCH harder job! I mean when yo apply to be a pilot, being responsible for hundreds of people isn't the first thinfg no your mind. A pilot is such an amazing job and we should respect what they've done.

    I agree with you totally

  • @joshuanesbit yeah really, well a cop has a risky job too but most of the time they spend their day driving around, pulling cars over, handing tickets out or block roads when something happened. And I dont want to critisize them, we need them too but they take life wayyyy to serious. Now these pilots just came to the show a day after the incident with the best mood, sense of humor and seriousness. I think pilots have more love for their jobs than police officers or security guards.

  • brace for impact....

was that a dirty joke by dave or am i'm thinking too much :)

  • Two of the coolest guys ever, and REALLY funny too! The co-pilot even cracked Dave up!

  • Credit to Dave and CBS for having them come aboard and help with the emotional healing!

  • I have been in zero at the moment. Although I have been in some pretty awful situations in a plane me being a pilot and everything. She should a been mentally trained to deal with it. it was her job

  • It's funny but has anyone said how the two pilots look very much like an older and younger version of Orville Wright, the pilot that flew the first aeroplane?! Just an observation, they should get together and make a movie of the Wright Brothers staring these two?!

  • LOL I LOVE HOW THE COPILOT

dave: so it was your job to restart the engines?

    copilot: yes,...i failed...

sully: its hard to find good help these days

    HAHAHAHA

  • Take a look folks...

These are the faces of heroes.

They didn't get shot at, they didn't get captured and endure torture, and they don't wear military uniforms.

They are also the ilk that all heroes come from. Everyman.

Hero is not an aspiration, it's not a status, and it's certainly not a decision or destination. A true HERO is just being a human being.

    ROCK ON HUMANS!

(I hope people see my post as positive)

  • Sullenberger for President 2012!

  • Its true I failed xD

  • I love the co-pilot... "I failed" it's how he said it

  • that one bitch still wount wear her uniform......what a drama queen......everyone look at me please

  • @shaun17304 Must you be quite so abusive? How many plane crashes have you been seriously injured in?

  • I like the co-pilot as well.

  • Apparently right after they landed in the water the co-pilot said, "Well, that wasn't so bad...." And then said, "You know, it would have been better if this happeened in July." (It happened in January, super cold Hudson water.) He's hilarious!

  • copilot hilar!!!!

  • I want this crew next time I'm in a plane. Funny AND dangerous lol

  • I remember watching this interview and just laughing all the way through. Jeff Skiles should do stand up, he's good with the one-liners :)

  • @x8296x Yeah, it was a CREW effort. Without the effective use of CRM (crew resource management), this easily would've been a horrific disaster.

There's a reason there are TWO pilots aboard every commercial flight... this is is an excellent example of why. Sully deserves every bit of attention he got... but I firmly believe Jeff Skiles should've gotten much more attention than he did. Leave it to the media.

  • 11:45am Sunday (EDT) - Time in New York, United States of America

    1:11

  • Respect!!

  • Best pilot!

  • Comment removed

  • the big three haha

  • Capt. Sully on co pilot Skiles: "SO hard to get good help..." LOL!

    Love it! =)

  • 1:52

  • I think the Tom Hank Film idea was meant to be tongue in cheek. How do you make a movie about a 2 minute near disaster? if you guys search Youtube you can hear the entire audio. It's actually kind of funny in a dark sense because the pilot is so calm and saying they're going into the hudson while the ATC is giving them instructions to land in jersey.

  • "that's true. i failed." hahaha best line ever!

  • I love how funny they are :)

  • a movie is reported in the works and Tom Hanks is being talked about for the role of Sully

  • @Isotec1:

After watching the movie "Airplane", I knew I wanted to be an airline pilot. Unfortunately, because of my poor vision, I was unable to fulfill that dream.

The Lord never closes a door without opening a window, Although I could not qualify as a pilot, I am now employed by US Airways, and I was hand picked by Captain Sully and Captain Jeff to be their official "Jive" translator.

  • No! Dear god, why does everything that happens in america have to be made into a film?

Tom Hanks isn't anywhere near old or wise enough to play Sully. Anthony Hopkins would be good. but no america, no, bad america. Stop trivialising everything.

  • If you read the transcripts of the in-cockpit commo between Sully and Skiles, when they are about to land Sully asks Skiles if he has any suggestions and Skiles answers, "Actually not". LOL. Both of them were cool under fire.

  • ...see what gets me upset about the entire flight 1549 situation was not how much attention and praise Sully received (he deserved every bit of it), but how LITTLE attention and praise the rest of the crew received.

This situation was a total success story because the CREW acted together and used excellent CRM (crew resource management) to handle the emergency. Without First Officer Jeff Skiles.. or any of the cabin crew for that matter, this easily could've been a terrible disaster.

  • I'm a pilot myself and I DESPISE the term "co-pilot." The proper title for the position is First Officer, and what most people don't realize is that the only thing separating the captain and the first officer is seniority with the airline. There are many instances out there where the first officer may very well have more experience and flight time than the captain, but has less seniority with that particular airline.

  • Wrong. The Captain must hold an ATP certificate.. The First Officer only needs to hold a Commercial License.

  • Wrong. The first officer most also hold an instrument rating

  • actually, I apologize captain35000.. you're still technically correct. even with an ATP certificate, an F/O still must hold an instrument rating. lol

  • MrBwisnewski and captain35000, you're both wrong lol.

As of 10/17/2009, H.R. 3371 (the "Airline Safety and Pilot Training Improvement Act of 2009.") was passed by Congress. First Officers working for part 121 operations (airlines) are now required by law to have an ATP certificate, thus leveling the playing field in terms of certificates held by the flight crew. Seniority is the only difference on the flight deck now.

  • @X6insane6X hmmmm requirements for an atp - The minimum pilot experience is 1500 hours of flight time and 500 hours of cross-country flight time, 100 hours night time, 75 hours instrument (simulated or actual). Other requirements include being 23 years of age, instrument rating, being able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, a rigorous written examination, and being of good moral character. Without an instrument rating your basically just a CPL

  • @MrBwisnewski boy are you incredibly misinformed. do your research before revealing your ignorance.

  • to the captain and co pilot, may the god bless you and give you a long lasting life,

  • the pilot is heroic but the mayor is not.

  • January 15th - National Sullenberger Day !!!

  • Sully gives credit to his entire crew, he does not like to be called a hero. He said it was a team effort great people there

  • What's the co-pilot's name? He's funny as all get-out!!

  • Jeff Skiles yes, very funny man

  • @defdanesy His name is Co-Pilot :I sure am glad I was flying with someone who was serious as all get out otherwise I would be at the bottom of the Hudson" LOL

  • @defdanesy co-pilot's name is Jeff Skiles

  • @defdanesy Co-Pilot's name is Jeffrey Skiles, 49 years old at the time, married with three teenagers. He has been flying since he was a teenager. Mr. Skiles, has worked for US Airways for 23 years. Both his father, James and his mother, Deloris were trained pilots. Mr. Skiles and his wife had talked about the improbability of making a safe landing on water. Still, before Friday, Mrs. Skiles felt the most dangerous part of his job was the drive to and from the airport.

  • @defdanesy Jeff styles

  • @defdanesy Jeffrey Skirles

  • jeff skiles

  • @defdanesy Jeffery Zaslow

  • why is everyone ganging up on jfreak91?!...there is actually no minimum age to take flying lessons...you just can't solo till your atleast 16 (14 in a glider)...its actually not that hard to fly a plane...it only takes 2 fingers to fly it (pilots know what im talking about)....and ALOT OF MONEY....i know people that got their private pilots certificate before they got their drivers license.

  • They're both really funny.

  • Even though I don't know these folks, I'm happy they are alive and well. Real classy, heroes.

  • At 1:01 Jeff is all like "That's true. I failed." He's pretty funny, the co-pilot

  • Clearly, you jackasses have not read the incident report. So, there is no further point in me arguing with you internet wannabees. Let me just state this nice and slow. EVERY SINGLE AIRBUS A320 leaves the factory WITH THE DITCH SWITCH. I am sitting here looking at not only the technical manual for the 320 cockpit, but also the incident report. So please, idiots, move on.

  • well okeagle25 :) There is no "ditchswitch on that A320 for US Airways, it's not an active item.

  • Absolutely wrong. Wanna see the manual? It's not an "option" from Airbus. And by the way, only ONE documentary I've seen has correctly mentioned this fact. Simply, because it ended up being irrelevant.

  • Well GUYNSKY, there is a ditch button on the airbus planes with basically closes up completely to keep out water. Sully pressed that button shortly before he hit the water

  • I will reply anyway you PUSSY!

  • Ok, it probably isn't something to laugh about, but the guys needed a laugh after all that stick and rudder.. Laughing is good for the soul.

  • Umm. Relax?

  • Love Sully, but I feel like Jeff skyles doesn't get much credit, He's so soo handsome too and has a nice deep voice

  • My mom knows Captain Sully. She worked with him a long time ago. Not kidding. She worked for PSA.

  • Soooo funny,

  • "I'm more than tired of telling this story."-Jeff Skiles that is so true, I'd feel the same way.

  • 1:30 sooo funny! i hope you all get it!

  • No, none of us get it. It is only you, the only smart youtuber, that got it. Us mortals have no brain function other than things being explained in detail to us, so that we also can understand.

    Idiot.

  • Imagine having to re-live a moment such as that over and over. What a great crew and even better people!

  • "Imagine having to re-live a moment such as that over and over."

I HAVE imagined myself in this situation.... and when I do, the story becomes even more interesting and riveting with each re-telling!! ;o)

  • Im not saying they dont have any skill, cuz it takes a lot of experience and knowledge to fly an airplane (im a pilot myself)

but if that river wasnt there and they impacted the ground in a wooded area and people died, people wouldnt be praising them and then people would bitch more about how "UNSAFE" flying is

the only thing that impresses me about this crash was the calmness of the pilots

the whole event still amazes me regardless of the fact

  • yea but the river was there and the people were safe. if thats your level of intelligence then I dont ever wanna be in any plane your flying dipshit. thats if u really are anyway.

  • yes actually i am a pilot, and the fact that there was a river there is just pure luck, its very hard to find a good landing spot IN GENERAL in the NORTHEAST as it is, not to mention for large aircraft like the A320. so i really dont understand how i insulted you or the crew in my last comment? i was just stating pure fuckin fact. maybe if you actually FLEW an airplane in the northeast youd fuckin understand and keep ur fucking simple minded , oblivious- to- everything mouth shut?

  • Comment removed

  • @jfreak91:

you re a pilot? fuck u, you re a motherfucking internet gangster fuck you

  • if you have enough speed and pressure water can be as hard as rock, soo the plane had to slow dont to atleast 90knts witch is petty much a stall and he still managed to land the plane with no engine and 40000lb as a glider on water droping from 3400ft, he is a good pilot,i also herd that he is an airforce jet pilot

  • Luck and skill combined can get you a long way, but had theu crashed on ground is not necessarily fatal. Look up for instance SAS flight 751, 27 December 1991, out of Arlanda Airport, Stokholm, Sweden.

All survived, even if the main hull was ripped apart.

Having said that, I prefrer my flights crash free, regardless of the impact surface.

  • Err... Those numbers in your nic is the year you were borne right? Because if that's the case, you're 17/18 wich means that there is no way in hell you are a pilot.

  • if your such a fucking smart ass look up part 61.103 in the FAR/AIM asshole. then you'll "errr...." think abuot what you just fucking said to me. that is if you even know what the fuckin far/aim is.

  • and what do you define as a pilot?

  • considering i've been "flying shit" since my 13th birthday and was awarded two awards for my "piloting" before my 16th birthday, you should really reconsider the merit jfreak's comments have, even if he poorly constructs his arguements. What he says is quiet correct in that there is an element of "luck" in most survivable airline crashes and although this is the case it does not diminish the skills and fantastic personal traits this crew showed that day.

  • a pilot to me means our anchor & leader.*

  • LOOOL HILARIOUS.

  • What great people and pilots

  • "And it's your job to try and restart the engine..."

    "That's true. I failed."

"It's hard to get good help."

LOL...I had to watch this twice. Heroes - and hilarious, too.

  • They're not only great pilots, they're funny too.

  • the co-pilot is a funny guy :DD

  • Yeah I think Jeff seems a cool guy! They all are! :)

  • I really feel for he FO as well. He should have got the same praise as Sully. I dont think the media understands that bringing that plane down safely and the decisions that were made are a joint effort. Yes Sully had control and he made a truly fantastic landing, but i wish the FO had got more recognition for his part. I dont even know his name!!

  • dave is the best

  • The big 3 :D:D

  • Skile's just great...ahaha

  • the big 3...hilarious. I love Dave

  • Damn, it looks like I'm going to stay single the rest of my life. Abe Lincoln's dead and Sully Sullenberger is taken.

  • Jeffry Skiles an unsung hero of flight 1549... Sully is great, but most pilots in the industry really felt the co pilot didn't get much praise, it was a team effort, not just one person. But congrats to both of them and everyone of the crew members.

  • thats true........ i failed XD

  • rofl....co-pilots HALARIOUS........n a smart ass :P

  • co-pilot is the best and pilot is my idol hahahahahaha and the speaker is the worse laughing ever hahaha

  • Bwahahaha the co-pilot's halarious

  • the co-pilot is awesome

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahaahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahaahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahaahahahahahah ahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahaahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahaahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaha hahahahaha

  • I am terrified of flying, as the 2nd flight i was ever on almost went down over Atlanta. However, if that flight crew was operating the aircraft I feel like I could step back onto a plane.

  • how did it almost go down?

  • almost undershot the runway as a result of incredibly bad weather

  • what a great interview!

  • i've always wanted to be a PILOT, but end up taking medicine instead..sigh..

  • whata great guys

  • A Hero can be anyone, sure they were just doing their jobs, but being a hero is doing the right thing with courage no matter the odds. So are these guys heros? I believe they are.

  • To actually see that all pilots are not blinkered arrogant robots is absolutely refrshing!!! These 2 guys have not only shown their courage at the landing of the aircraft, but they have shown that their inner strength is just as strong after the event by making audiences laugh at their cavalier attitude. Fantastic interview!!!

  • hahahaha the co pilot is very funny guy!!!

  • Comment removed

  • That co-piolt has a second career ahead of him as a television personality. Funny! :)

  • He's so funny. ha ha

  • The co-pilot is hilarious.

  • ever heard this coming out of a cockpit? lol
