If you want more consistency in the proximity detector, make more particels. place a minecart under thepressure plate, hit it with a bow enchanted with fire, this will make it permanently burn, which will make lots more particles

it is simple, in minecraft particles will only generate when you are within a certain amout of blocks of it, there for when you are within that certain amout it will activate thearrow detector, there for setting of the TNT.

@TheGodlikeBlock The pressure plate only detects the arrow if the particles of smoke from the fire are intersecting it. That's how the whole mechanism works, if you're too far away the particles don't render, so the redstone doesn't turn on.
