Thank you so much! Very helpful! I do have a tip though...for those who do not like using gel at all, try "Edge Control"...It is like a miracle worker and really keeps your edges down! I love it! I use the organics olive oil clear one and it is really really helpful (and I have really tough edges! Lol) :)
Hey PhillyDiva :) Im trying to learn how to do a sew in and from all the videos in utube yours are the most helpful! My only consern is the braids! As many times as i tried the braids werent tight enough and they wouldnt hold the wefts. Should i braid on wet hair? I understand that we dont have the same hair texture but my hair is naturally curly, so do you have any tips that can help me do secure and tight braids? Please help!
Like the videos phillydiva, have been wearing my hair in a curly natural state, but want try something new. What product do u recommend on your weave to keep it moisturized? I'm planning on using human Indian hair. Thanks again, an I'll be watching.
& u can also use bantu knots to make ur hair curly like the weave u have in..if u want them tighter u have to leave them in longer but yea great tips I'm still confused on how to seal the weaft when u being tho ): I wud love for someone to make a video specially on that (cough cough) lol
i found that pre-threading the needle is way more convenient i thread about 13 needles a little more than arm length and that last me the whole head, also i think a sewing net is good if u arent that great at braiding
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!! i'm trying to learn how to do my own weaves. it would save me so much money. how do you secure your wefts? do you a special knotting technique? that is what i'm scared of because i wouldnt want my tracks to fall out. lol. i love the hair you are wearing. it looks good on you.
Great tips, I've used both the cutting the wefts and folding over technique, I find that folding over definitely cuts down on the shedding and it's soo much easier when you take it out.
These are awesome tips! I don't even wear sew ins but I'm so in awe of you chicks that can do your own and have them looking fly I had to watch the video.
Great tips! ? when you flip the hair over are you sewing that weft onto the same place? i dont get it, have you done a vid showing this flipover methed
Hey, I'm glad you posted this cause I'm going to be exploring sew-ins over the summer, but I was wondering if u can further explain how u "flip" the track. I'm having a hard time imagining your explanation...=[
@AlmaDeMariposa flip the track is basically the method when you not cuttting the weft once you get to the end of the row...so you lay the track (in its entire 4 oz bundle), sew across at the nape of your neck as the 1st row...when you get the end, take the row and flip it over and start sewing the next row without cutting the track until you have no more hair to sew and then start using the next pack of hair.
@PhillyDiva19154 Hi I LOVE your hair videos and advice. I am going natural, and have been growing out my hair for the past 1.5 years. I wanted to know how much of your real hair do you usually leave out when sewing in your weave and can half wigs or 3/4 wigs cause hair breakage or damage? I love weaves and wigs but to me they look so much better with hair left out. Can you please spare some advice?
This is a brilliant post , I sew in my own hair too and I learnt a lot of tips and tricks over the years, sometimes trial and error LOL, but I do get some amazing results.
OK I LOVE SEW IN'S BUT HAVE A FEW ISSUES WITH KEEPING THE NATURAL HAIR MOIST WHAT PRODUCTS DO U SUGGEST( THE WEAVE I MEAN) TO KEEP ITS SHINE AND THE ENDS ALWAYS SEEM TO FEEL THE DRIEST AND I ALSO WANTED TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF HAIR DO U HAVE IN THIS VID I SO LOVE BIG HAIR
Hey PhillyDiva! I just recently started doing my own weaves a few months ago. Any recommendatons on hair weave company/products? How long do you keep your weaves in? When I go in the beauty supply, I feel like a kid in a candy store. Lol.
@MizzDivineGenius sew ins are cool to me...wind blows between tracks...lol. No but seriously I leave my perimeter hair out so I can pull up into ponytail if needed.

Regarding your leave out hair, have you experienced any changes to your curl pattern or any heat damage?
Just want a heads up to know if I should leave my natural hair out for my next sew-in.
Thanks!
ElectraAlex 2 months ago
@ElectraAlex yes...don't do it...get a full sew in. the heat damage is not reversible. If yiu do apply heat, do it sporadically...and use protectant.
