Balthus23, This is why I play basketball, along with all the ankle breakers. If you can't dunk yet, you need to start training. I highly recommend you to try the program I'm using - | 50 inch vertical [dot] com | - I m 5 7 and I can dunk!
In the 24 games Jordan played PG, he averaged 29.3ppg, 8.9rpg, 10.6 apg, 2.4spg. Between March 24 and April 14, 1989, he recorded a triple double in ten of the eleven games, including seven consecutive ones. In the game he didn't record a triple double, he finished with 40 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds.
There is something wrong with that. If he had a triple double in 10 of the 11 games and had 7 in the game he didnt got a triple double then he should average 9.7 rebounds a game minimum. Not 8.9
& 1 DPOY in an era filled with terrific defenders like Rodman, Ewing, Olaijawon, DJ etc etc. MJ probably would've had 2-3 DPOY titles if he played today.
Jordan early on did miss out on a few awards or nominations that he probably deserved. NBA All Defensive team in 87, MVP in any year he didn't get it after 1988. (Especially 1990 imo and 1997)
To me 87 was all Magic, he had a great year. Even though MJ had an outstanding year avg 37pts it was all Magic that year, now 89 maybe MJ should've won it and I think 1990 that was Charles Barkley but he got screwed over because everyone liked Magic. I think Magic should've had only 1 and that was 87. MJ should've had at least 7 or 8 MVP's
What a rare game. Thanks for the upload. The split of the double at 4:45 and the drive, pirouette and lay-in at 7:01 are amazing. He reads defenses and uses screens peerlessly.
totally destruction at the 4:44 mark no fuckin guard today escapes that trap that the hawks just put on jordan. they would of gave up the ball or turned it over....their ball handling skills aren't shit compared to his period
mj handling skill is by far the most efficient one i have seen. very simple but require a lot of speed and quickness. but the key is that he reads the defense so well.
i still don't understand how someone could average 32+ ppg, 8rebs, 8ast, 54fg%, 2.9stl, etc, etc, and not get the MVP award. 1989 was MJ's year. I know the Bulls didn't get 50 wins that year, but he still dominated. as good a season as any player past, present future will ever have. his numbers in 1988-89 season were tremendous. if any player had those numbers today, ESPN would be all over him. I guess they had higher standards back then.
thats cuz NBA back than was No Boys Allowed league unlike professional version of NCAA today. MJ should've won the 3 MVPs in a row. in '87, '88, '89. Nobody played better ball than him those 3 yrs. Not even Magic who himself said many times, MJ played in different level. Level of standard was way too high back than unlike today where ESPN is trying desperately to get Kobe his 2nd MVP despite Lebron is playing much better & should win MVP fare & square.
plus think about the 2 guys who were the standard of excellence, BIrd and Magic, both of those guys were leading their teams to titles and 60+ win seasons year in and year out. MJ was barely scraping 50 wins until 1990 and after.
true dat. People talk about Kobe missing MVP in '06 & '05 & some say he should have had 3 by now. If thats the case MJ is already missing 3 reg season MVPs so his talley should've been 7-8 reg season MVPs realistically speaking. Magic should've had 2 MVPs not 3.
@rsx2 Magic Johnson had the same "all around" year. The Lakers had a better record. Magic was awesome that year. I saw him make several game winning shots. I think that was the closest MVP vote ever.
MJ was the best trap splitter I've ever seen...

Next time, hold a mirror up to yourself & repeat that comment aloud. Now you know how the rest of us feel about yourself..

U know what cracks me up?
When these idiots claim that MJ during these days, scored MAINLY on dunks & layups LOL!!
Just like with this game, one can CLEARLY see during these years, his SUPEROR mid range game on display!
What games are these fools looking at? U can CLEARLY see that the MAJORITY of his pts are coming from 12-15 ft jump shots!
MJ throughout the 1st installment of his career, did a masterful job of mixing up his game with a myriad of jumpers, drives, post ups, etc..

I agree. I was just saying that Jordan should have been on the All Defensive team in 1987.

Naw man, '89 is debatable but Magic was definitely MYP in 1987. 23.9ppg, 12.2 asts, .522% shooting, and 65 wins.

89 debatable??

it was '89 - you can always tell by the kicks (AJ4) & that was the year that the "point guard" experiment was in play...

Just look at how he beats the double/trap at 4:44. Jordan's reading of defenses was second to none.

Sometimes I wish they had left him at point guard. He was ridiculous with all those triple doubles he started getting.
