@THEGODOFPIVOT All their money gets to influence public policy even if their way is legally inconsistent. When you download a file from LimeWire, they are not losing money because it cost them nothing for the file to be made unlike it cost them money to make and distribute the CD. They claim potential losses, but why do they assume that I would have bought it in the first place if LimeWire didn't exist (or current file sharing sites).
If its really illegal or bad they should make a law that you have to ware headset in order to hear their music....... cause theres no point having a lawsuit..
I purchased The Music; i should be able to do what ever i want with it (well thats NOT file sharing with people ect.) I can be able to put it on my computer and ipod zune mp3 players ect. Maybe People One day will go on strike and wont even download a single song.
only corporate suckups listen to the orginizations and the giant companies such as the mpaa and riaa and all the other ones. they are liers and full of crap and shouldnt be taken seriously.
I hate how they can sell me a CD (which they should thank me for) then shaft me when I decide to share it. But when I walk down the street I could be forced to hear it from any number of sources. Fairs fair, I should be able to sue them when I hear their music by mistake. Maybe I didn't wish to hear it and I should control what my ears hear. I should be able to sue them for noise pollution and what they forced upon my ears.
If you purchase a computer program on a CD, there is a limit on the number of computers you can upload this program to. Don't technologies exist that allow restrictions on transfer of digital media from a CD to a computer and between computers? Microsoft was onto this problem long before the music industry. Is it me or does it seem like the "pirating problem" is not as bad as Sony and the rest are making it out to be, since they are not investing the extra money into protecting their CD's.
The RIAA gets a cut out of every CDR and CDRW sold. They get a cut out of every CD drive that is sold. They are also now getting cuts out of touring revenue and merchandise of their artists.
@BurnumBurnum123 The only reason the music industry is the way it is right now is 'cause the record companies signing artists the make shitty music, i mean who the fuck want to buy a cd with one good song and the rest of them shitty. Anyways RIAA suck big fucking balls.
@BurnumBurnum123 All their money gets to influence public policy even if their way is legally inconsistent. What sense does it make to buy a CD and not be able to rip it on your mp3 player because it's *illegal*? Like hell I'm going to buy the digital album of a CD that I already have, just to play it legally on my iPod/Zune/whatever.

its not technically artist but the record companies idk how much money the artist makes from the cds but i bet they make more money wen they sell tickets and lets see file sharing is basically free promotion and free promotion means they don't spend money on promoting their stuff and they gain more fans and more fans means more sold out concerts so the artist wins the record companies are the dicks and artist that are fucked up that are only in for the money. *cough*metallica*cough*
You're right, Many of the A-list artist just don't give a fuck. As long as there pocket are full, and the money keeps roling in. Companies are diftrent from another. But, yes you're right.
the RIAA and sony are money grubbers. the reason why so many people download music and not pay for it is, because a single cd is about 15 dollars and only 1 song may be good. they are doing all they can , just to get more money.
you were doin good chris until u started talkin bout file sharing. just get a p2p file firewall, its that simple and most anti virus progs. come with one. just double check.
It's simple. Purchasing a cd does transfer ownership of the copyrights. If that were the case, there would be no point in anyone wasting their time and money obtaining copyrights for their intellectual property.
Sony is not the biggest loser here. It's the little guy that actually wrote the song(s)you fail to mention.
Sony can go fuck itself. I bought the fucking CD, and I will be able to put those songs on my music device, and give the songs to my friends (for free at least).
I just wanna know if it's illegal to make a duplicate copy of a CD that you purchased for a family member or a friend? It's retarded to think that this could be illegal. Even when I was a kid I used to make copies of my cassette tapes for family members. And keep in mind that I'm not talking about computer downloads or ANYTHING computer related.
I haven't bought a new CD since I was 16 years old. I have never bought a DVD, only rent. I'm 27 now. I don't use P2P, I just despise these fucks, and would never give money to them. I get all of my music from services like magnatunes and jamendo that are DRM free. Good work RIAA. Keep digging.
In my opinion, it is okay to buy a CD and rip the songs off of it onto your computer only if you use those ripped songs for personal use (i.e. storing on a portable music player, or simply listening to it on your computer), and if you are not making any profits from the ripped copies.
RIAA is god. You bitch ass nigger only complain b/c you can't do nothin' about. All you chinks do is bitch bitch and bitch. In reality, you spics are too scared. You all just wasting your time. RIAA pimp slaps all you hoes.
Fair Use clause (which came from the BetaMax case) allows people to create personal back-up copies. If I let a friend listen to my PMP (for me an iPod), does that constitute stealing? No! Infact if a friend were to enjoy a song on my iPod, I acted as a grass root advertiser.
RIAA or the musician or whoever owns the right to SELL the music and not how a person listens to it. It is utter bullshit to only allow music to be heard in one medium.
i have a question, okay i went on the twilightprincess main website (owned by nintendo) and i did a quest on there, they gave me 5 free mp3s from the twilight princess soundtrack, would the RIRAA count that as a crime?
It's the funding of the creators we need to change. We need to change it so, that piracy does not hurt it. Preferably so, that piracy even boosts it.
Everyone has become a distributor, services are no longer needed. Imagine a company that makes ice cubes for cooling drinks. Why would you buy their stuff, when you can create ice cubes yourself? If the ice cube company would take the same approach as MPAA and RIAA, they would be lobbying laws to make refrigerator illegal.
you can buy this burger from us, but u can eat it on the street but not in the shower, in the subway but not in the school, what the hell ? the burger is mine to do what i pleas with it as long as i dont give it to ANYONE ELSE !
i think i should have the right to stack my music in my PC liberery for ez access and ipod for actually using it !
Jamendo is another awesome place for free music. Free, LEGAL music. (Yes, some artists actually realize that it's good for them to get their music onto as many iPods as possible.)
sorry but sharing music online is a way for people to find new music. so like me if i like what i hear then yes i will go buy it. and i also pay to use these programs. its only bad in my eyes if you buy the cd or whatever. but i back up all my cds. i have had the black album my metallica stole from me 14 times. is it right that i would have to keep buying this cd 15 times because somebody took it from me after i was the one that already paid for it. take it easy.
i know, i paid 500 for a sony camera, it didnt even come with software! i had to buy software! Their a horrible company imo, their only SEMI redeeming feature, was the PS1 and 2 other than that, meh... though their mini disc players were decent
You don't want to have to re-buy the same content over and over Chris? Isn't that what a subscription is? Only, without actually having anything to show for it when the provider goes bankrupt, or the record company pulls out.
Buy once, play forever - don't "buy" things on a per month basis.
I believe when you buy a cd you should have to right to put it on your pc so you can listen to in any ware in your world. NOT to share it by P2P networks.
How can this fellow be talking about Digital Music Rights and not be aware of the Jammie Thomas case that just happened a day or two before his video was made?
If you buy the CD\DVD or what ever, it is yours if you share it on the internet that is illigal but if you just rip it to your computer I just think that is legal (right?) it is still in your pocession..
Well, it's pretty much rubbish what the woman was saying about artists making little to no money from gigs, merch etc. It's quite the opposite. Artists release an album as 'advertising' for the live shows etc. I'm pretty sure more money is made from an artist turning up and playing for an hour and a half than recording, finalising, mastering and printing 500,000 cd's... Jeez.
all ill say is, I dont buy a piece of art for the canvas, i pay for whats on it. Same goes with cd's for me.
The RIAA shouldnt be telling me anything to do for something they didnt create. They merely recorded it and distributed it which anyone can do.
So as far as the whole what can i do with the music. Well, Big D said, theyd rather have 10 kids at the show and one cd purchased, than one kid at the sho, and 10 cd's purchased. And ill live by that. (since i want the art, not the package)
oops, wrong statement, well in short, i mean i believe in freedom, so i want freedom in music. since its not the RIAA's its the artists, and i think they just want their music to get out there, and people to see them at shows. so, yeah... cause the actual artists make the money from the shows, not the RIAA, so ill make sure to go to more shows now :D
OK RIAA is looking like a bad monster. They need to make prices cheaper. If you do that everybody will be happy. I think most people people want to pay for their music. But its expensive. If they lower prices, file sharing would be reduced.
Also the thing that bather me about digital music is that I am paying the same price as the CD but lesser quality. How fair is that?
Like hell they dont earn money through touring and merch, why do it otherwise? Also, absoloutely right, you are legally allowed to make one copy for your own purposes. Sony have produced tape to tapes, CD to tapes, and recently MP3 players for years, like hell they can turn around and tell me not to copy.
Ugh! I do NOT Like the RIAA! They sued that poor mother and dead people... I scratch my CD's so bad, I'd rather have them on my computer... I still purchase CD's, they should be glad... I just bought Reba's.. Love, Jolene Sugarbaker The Trailer Park Queen
And now that the courts have decided that an IP address is infallible proof they can sue anyone they want and win as long as they can prove that that person has the ability to use a computer.
where not loosing anything we have the interent and god blessed torrents and programmes like limewire, frostwire and all that. The companys are even lucky that alot of people are buying the cd'd not illegally downloading them. Sony needs to make a move.
i rekon that it depends on how you use it. like example i bourght family guy season 1 2 3 4 and wen i upload funny parts i it i think that i have rights that im allowed to do that but no they go on deleting them. F
the bands dont makemuch from the cd's , just the merch and tickets. little for music. its the aging hipsters at the riaa, or whatnot who get screwed. piss on the record companies, aside from underground labels, and indie labels. piss on these rich bastards
The original arguement was the SHARING illegally of purchased copyrighted material - and indeed the profit that can be attained from that action is criminal. Having said that after obtaining material a single user can back-up as needed. Back it up, transport it and make it available to THAT single person at his or her disgression. But certainly do not copy for redistribition and profit making purposes. ----- DAVIDEO
i have no problem with someone saying i cannot download something for free, because that IS theft, where i have an issue is when they only give you WHAT THEY WANT TO GIVE YOU.What about recordings that were on vinyl that never made it to Cd but DID make it to Limewire?
Sony needs to die. Like, seriously. They're doing more harm than good to the technology world. Here's to hoping that the failure of their overpriced Homermobile known as PS3 will be the beginning of their end.
Sony is the same company that infected people's computers with a rootkit, which would be illegal if anyone else did it. But Sony can get away with it because its a large corporation apparently.
Some of Sony's execs should have been taken to court to face criminal charges for the infections.
this is why I buy vinyl

In my opinion, it is okay to buy a CD and rip the songs off of it onto your computer only if you use those ripped songs for personal use (i.e. storing on a portable music player, or simply listening to it on your computer), and if you are not making any profits from the ripped copies.

Fair Use clause (which came from the BetaMax case) allows people to create personal back-up copies. If I let a friend listen to my PMP (for me an iPod), does that constitute stealing? No! Infact if a friend were to enjoy a song on my iPod, I acted as a grass root advertiser.

I bought the CD! ITS MINE! I can do whatever I want with it! If the government has a problem with it, then they can kiss my ass!

I'm not that big on filesharing, I don't feel like joining a private tracker and not very many people seed good music in FLAC.
So for me I just buy good old cds at independent shops and then I rip them with Exact Audio Copy as FLAC files.

sorry but sharing music online is a way for people to find new music. so like me if i like what i hear then yes i will go buy it. and i also pay to use these programs. its only bad in my eyes if you buy the cd or whatever. but i back up all my cds. i have had the black album my metallica stole from me 14 times. is it right that i would have to keep buying this cd 15 times because somebody took it from me after i was the one that already paid for it. take it easy.

You don't want to have to re-buy the same content over and over Chris? Isn't that what a subscription is? Only, without actually having anything to show for it when the provider goes bankrupt, or the record company pulls out.
Buy once, play forever - don't "buy" things on a per month basis.

supahman14 4 years ago
Well, it's pretty much rubbish what the woman was saying about artists making little to no money from gigs, merch etc. It's quite the opposite. Artists release an album as 'advertising' for the live shows etc. I'm pretty sure more money is made from an artist turning up and playing for an hour and a half than recording, finalising, mastering and printing 500,000 cd's... Jeez.
cohaagendesu 4 years ago
all ill say is, I dont buy a piece of art for the canvas, i pay for whats on it.
(since i want the art, not the package)
goemon4 4 years ago
oops, wrong statement, well in short, i mean i believe in freedom, so i want freedom in music. since its not the RIAA's its the artists, and i think they just want their music to get out there, and people to see them at shows. so, yeah... cause the actual artists make the money from the shows, not the RIAA, so ill make sure to go to more shows now :D
goemon4 4 years ago

And now that the courts have decided that an IP address is infallible proof they can sue anyone they want and win as long as they can prove that that person has the ability to use a computer.

Sony is the same company that infected people's computers with a rootkit, which would be illegal if anyone else did it. But Sony can get away with it because its a large corporation apparently.
Some of Sony's execs should have been taken to court to face criminal charges for the infections.
