  • You JUST DON'T GET IT - the ego defenses come from the split off shadow side of the inner child that doesn't get it's needs met or defends from it's position - so to eradicate the ego you first have to heal the inner child and then nuture and secure the inner child, then as Jesus said "Lest you can be like a child you can't enter the kingdom of heaven" - meaning when your inner child is secure it will show you the entire universe's origin as God in you spiritual heart within... Theory will not.

  • Few caveats I see here.

Ego is survival mechanism geared to demand respect and approval. It goes nuts when it sense you lack in that department. Nothing wrong with that, when you are 4. However if you don't realize what is speaking in your head later and you identify with that voice and you let it drive....you are screwed.

Desire pursuit or desire ignoring is what brings suffering. Balance is the key.

    Kaballah seems wrong here.

  • catholics are psychotic.

  • How do I get rid of my ego without becoming religious!?

  • I wish to share that Catholics are too creepy, and graven, and macabre.

  • I like it, if it protects me, from God's blasphemous powers. I do not like pagans, witches, orders, or malice. I, myself, wish to practice Kabblah-'Christian' with a Lord that explains and sells before performing like a philosophicaly immoral vile man. Save me a seat!

  • Only when one knows themself down to the deepest layers and you understand how that is relected onto to outer world is there an action of intelligence. This intelligence with awareness acts as a light. So let's say the ego is darkness, it has intellect but it doesn't act from intelligence and it has limited awareness. When you with apply awareness which is light to darkness which is ego, the darkness vanishes, there is no entity 'getting rid of' it. Darkness cannot be, in the presence of light.

  • Who is the "I" that is wanting to get rid of the ego...Furthermore, what is the entity that 'gets rid' of the ego?

The ego is simply a state and movement of mind, the can be no battle to get rid of it, otherwise it is one fragment of the ego assuming authority of the other fragments.

  • He says "pop" is in the glass, could he be a New York jew? I Love New York!

  • How the heck does he get up so fast!!??lol

  • I think the only way to get rid of the ego would be: hypothetically suffer a major trauma to the head and acquire complete amnesia, lose every single memory since you were born and completely start over again. Of course it would be a matter of seconds before your brain starting identifying with things again, even if it couldn't apply labels to anything.

  • ask questions, in search of broader knowledge. do not lash out into anger formed by ignorance.

  • So if I grow crops for food I am egotistical?

  • this dood is funny with his fake haircolor. but i have to give him da props because kabbalah makes sense. the basic concepts that he explains are indeed troo.

  • You cannot get rid of your ego! It´s not ment to die og disappear, it can not! But when the true Master arises from within, in Presence, and this can only happen in true presence, the ego will surrender and instead become the servant of you. It will help you function in the world of time, it will no longer be afraid to die and will no longer trick you into its world, which it has thousands of ways to do, but it will be your friend and servant.

  • To "kill" the ego would be disastrous and nothing less than a detriment. Control is key.

  • @th3d3adp0et Control is ego.

  • O.O huh?

  • WHY DOES HE ALWAYS SAY CHECK OUT 'THESE LINKS' WHEN THEIR IS ONLY 1 LINK????

  • pretty sure I saw this guy on comedy central once...

  • Now i'm hungry..

  • It's bullshit, all bullshit.

And that's not an egotistical statement.

  • @FreeHeretic When you don't know what you're talking about

and you insist on making stupid comments,

it is YOUR ego. Try twirling your dick in public you'll even get

more of the attention that you crave! Stay away from ideas,

    it's not your strong suit.

  • God feeds on EGO!! ..the supply is surplus

  • Hmm,I'd agree with you lupon18 but I have a friend who somehow becomes more egotistical when 'under the influence'.I hate when people change (in a negative way) on substances.is that their true self as well?

  • The only way to see the ego for what it truly is to have ego death, which is best induced by psychedelic substances (organic magic mushrooms, LSD, marijuana). For whatever the reason, these substances create a temporary loss of the ego, allowing your true self, or your SOUL to manifest it self consciously (instead of being controlled or trapped by the ego). This is why most psychologists have experimented themselves, starting with Timothy Leary and Richard Albert back in the 60s at Harvard

  • It's impossible to get rid of the ego.

  • Dismantle the ego-self. You can start today.

"The experience of no-self occurred yesterday. Today it went deeper to a complete release of all thinking as being "me". i am free." - Rich

  • if having a ego is a bad thing then the brog are the good guys.

  • using this guys example about the dinner for the friend, wouldn't by the host's insisting that his friend partake of the meal be satisfying the host's ego of pride (for the amazing meal offered)..suddenly the friend felt obliged to accept after the friend gave him a guilt trip over how much trouble he went thru for him???

  • @oromuisca Not necessarily. The chef could have cooked the meal simply to see his friend be happy. If to see his friend be happy makes him happy, then that is not ego but Love. If the cook is upset because the friend refuses to eat the meal....then that is ego. If the cook suffered to make the meal...that is ego too! The ego is very results focused, while the spirit is all about intentions. The spirit would have been thrilled just to cook the meal for a friend witht he intention to please.

  • @1971SuperLead I agree w/ the ego being result focused..so wouldn't the host cooking for making others happy a need to feel validadated? to b ego-free, he'd be BEYOND criticism & BEYOND flattery! good arguement 1971Superlead,though but i'm not trying to stroke your ego..ha,ha!

  • @oromuisca, It is possible to serve without being results orientated. The joy of servce is in the service itself. A spiritual person would have had a great time cooking a meal for his friend, and when his friend didn't want the meal, a spiritual person will not take the act personally. He will simply ask his friend what he would rather have, and maybe try to give that to them with a joyous heart.

If the friend likes the meal..... that's great, but if he doesn't....so what? It was fun to make!

  • @1971SuperLead that's right on! almost like "it's not whether u win or lose..it's how u play the game" there is a point where we need not even care weather we are enjoying ourselves either..we just are..the state of just being. Fun ends, Pain & suffering ends, joy ends... Bliss is what is the ultimate..it is a causeless happiness...when u are happy because of something, sad because of something etc..this is all ego based.. Bliss needs nothing to exist..it comes from inside.

  • @oromuisca Well, I do think bliss has it requirements. I doubt you could feel bliss if you thought you were alone. We do need loved ones to be happy. Friends or family are indespensible. No doubt fun is overrated, but peace, love, joy and are all essential for bliss.

  • @oromuisca Right NOW, my INTENTION is to help you, and that is joyful. If I do help you...that's great! If I don't help you.....so what?

Again, the Spirit lives in the moment and it's intentions is it's reward, but the ego hates what it does and so looks into the future results for it's reward. So sad for the ego, because the future never comes. It's always in the future! lol

  • For me, the ego/illusion/unconsciousness is a simple polarity within me...it's myself vs. my Self. This part of me has as much or as little power as I give it. To try and get rid of the ego is to not even see it for what it is...me. I have the choice to live in the illusion or not...of course, I have to acknowledge the illusion and my co-creation of it. Once I see it, I can make a choice on what to engage.

  • This is about a person seeking the "spiritual" higher level of nature - a person on the path, not someone who just wants to satisfy himself - with self satisfaction as the goal a person feels no shame at all

  • why is the person 'overwhelmed' by shame when he is given all the food? shouldnt he be overwhelmed by gratitude?

  • Ego is created by fear.

  • @F1amingstar Well said..... I troll through loads of 'Theories', but rarely come across pure common sense. I'm nobody special, but thank god for the few

  • I HAVE THE ANSWERS, TO GIVE YOU THE ANSWERS YOU NEED TO JOIN MY CLUB....

  • can somebody explain this whole thing in a really simple way to me? and possibly give a couple examples? my comprehension skills are too lacking to fully understand this:/

  • its simple. realize that your ego doesn't exist, it never did. Its another mental concept. let it go by realizing you are literally creating its existence by thinking of it. Stop thinking of it by realizing that it literally does not have any true existence to think of. Let go of the struggle between you and your ego, its completely unnecessary. Do what you can but accept your behavior by realizing that all attempts to make yourself a "better person" are, deep down, phony. Whats your motivation

  • YOur life is based on your decisions

Your decisions are based on your personality

Your personality is located in your brain (Yes!)

Your brains wiring is determined by DNA

YOur DNA was dealt to you by fate.

    Ego is illusion.

YOu cant get rid of something that was never there. You can only get rid of the illusion.

  • @NBTY4ever So you're saying egos don't exist?

  • @doritoesPLAY I don't see how any other conclusion can be reasonably be reached! What do you believe? And if you believe in a way incongruent with my theory, then what would the basis of that belief be?

  • @NBTY4ever Ok so. Your saying that ego's don't exist. Then why the hell do people have them? My belief is that egos exist because people have them and that they need to be handled and controlled. so the person doesnt become arrogant and all.

  • @doritoesPLAY I think people have the illusion that there ego actually represents something that trancends the fact that luck is the root of our lives. Let's say two alien biologists captured a human male and studied him. The one would say "They must breastfeed their young...LOOK...why would they have nipples if they didn't!" Like nips on a guy, the ego is just a mistake...a useless joke that nature plyed on us.

  • @NBTY4ever lol I don't think nip's would be there unless necessary. Just because we haven't figured out why yet...

The ego is not a physical thing, but just because you can't observe it, doesnt mean it doesnt exist... lmao

  • @doritoesPLAY OK. If the nips are necessary, then what purpose does it serve. We have been studying human biology thoroughly for 000's of year, and we have yet to discern any purpose for them. Until some shocking new information reveals that nips DO have some actuall use, I think we are pretty safe in saying they are useless.

Im really actually more interested in seeing if someone agrees or disagrees with my chain of reasoning as posted above then in discussing nipples, to be honest.

  • @NBTY4ever Science doesn't have the answers for everything and they never will. Just because we don;t know. doesn;t mean u can go ahead and assume theyre useless. What it means is that YOU DONT KNOW.

    Theres a difference.

BTW, evolution suggests that men wouldnt have them unless needed. I mean if a species doesnt need something, it naturally gets rid of it.

After 1000s of years men still have them, which means obv they need them.

  • @doritoesPLAY OK well I said I was only interested in discussing my thoery, enough with the man-nips fer chrissakes. IF you have a comment, concern, criticism or question about my model than please feel free to write back. If not, great...take it easy, and catch you later!

  • @NBTY4ever LOL Yeah I was only discussing my theory too. But whatever. Later.

  • @doritoesPLAY "if a species doesn't need something, it naturally gets rid of it"

Not true. Consider that while in the womb the fetus will grow an entirely useless coat of fur which it sheds before birth. Why? Because even though it's useless it's not actually detrimental; so there's no natural selection pressure to get rid of it. Our DNA is full of useless junk which no longer serves a purpose but stuck around since it doesn't actually harm us.

  • @studentofsmith Prove it's useless.

  • @doritoesPLAY That's not logically possible and you know it.

But let's not get sidetracked. Our species has gone through a long evolutionary process. It's reasonable to assume that we evolved many traits which served a purpose at the time but though changing circumstances and continued evolution no longer provide any benefit. Yet as long as these traits are benign they remain with us. Our many apparently useless but harmless traits is just what you'd expect the evolutionary process to produce.

  • @studentofsmith

If you can't PROVE what you say, then why assume it's useless?

I'm saying it could be useless but it may be useful. We don't know.

    Friggen useless argument.

  • @doritoesPLAY Based on what we know about biology it's probably useless so until some evidence comes to light suggesting otherwise it's reasonable to assume that it's just as useless as it appears. You're suggesting that becasue we don't know we can't make an educated guess and seem to be implying that in the absence of certainty the odds are 50/50.

Thar's like saying we don't know if there are invisible, inaudible, intangible fairys in my garden so we can't assume there aren't.

  • @NBTY4ever Ego is your sense of self.

This sense of self is real becasue we experience it.

Our INTERPRETATION of this sense of self, that we are an individual, is false.

Nonetheless we cannot disengage from the illusion. A sense of self is a necessary motivator to engage in the effort required to overcome entropy. If you didn't, at some level, engage the illusion that you are an individual you would simply lie down and die. That why animal life evolved egos; plants don't need them, we do.

  • How do YOU get rid of ego? .... Who are you who wants to get rid och this something that you claim to exist as "ego"?

  • Ego can't be removed, ever. If the ego makes me want, and I WANT to stop wanting, and I WANT to start giving instead, then that want/desire/ego is the propelent for the change in behavior. How could I ever give, without an ego? Wouldn't I have to WANT to give, a.k.a, desire to give? At the end of any enlightened giving session, it would have been done for the long lasting pleasure recieved; which of course is self satisfaction, which of course is the definition of ego.

  • I just had a "Matrix" moment right when I saw that chair. And it felt like that scene when Morpheus was explaining the Matrix to Neo for the first time (when Mr. Anderson was asking if that place was real, right after seeing those two chairs and that one tv in that white room, from that training program that operator was running).

  • giving and receiving are one. When you are participating in your favourite activity, are you giving or receiving ? Both at the same time or neither. The best thing is to stop thinking about it for that will surely drive you crazy.

  • are my actions for myself or all living beings?

  • @zsalvati first you must to answer to yourself what is living being. When you'll understand that our inner 'me' or soul is energy which is not coming from nowhere and not dissapearing into nowhere, but is natural battery +-, allways interacted with other energies, then you can find out that earth, like universe, is perfectly selfbalanced energy house- 3 dimensional body for interdimensional beings. What that means? We are one? Yes, means you think of people- u think of yourself cause u part of

  • You don't.

  • Why, in the world, would you ever want to get rid of the Ego?

    How about the Id?

    How about your body?

    How about your emotions?

    Memories?

    Loved ones?

YOU are a whole being, stay that way!

Jesus came to give you spiritual life. That's because in His estimation, we are dead. Jesus being the Creator manifest in the flesh, His estimation is always correct.

He doesn't want you to be incomplete, He came to make you whole.

  • what if ego is satisfying oneself , so if the person you made the meal to was to satisfyi and the person takes that satisfying doesnt that mean that he is the ego too and only satisfies herself?

i thin the only way to get rid of ego is by satisfying youself balanced how you satisfying others , or by love or by death :S, or by giving or receiving

  • The problem is wanting to get rid of egoism in the first place. Egoism is awesome.

  • so the giver and the reciever are the same, there is no difference between them because as the giver gives and the reciever recieves, they both ultimately end up in the same state of mind so to speak, so they are the same, two sides of the same coin, you cant have one without the other and the important thing is that they both came to flowering at the end, so i guess every situation is just one continuous situation always happening in the now.

  • Egoraptor is awesome.

  • That guy has a large ego.

  • @SpyWhoLovedHimself

the ego that stares in no mirror is the worst of all! ;)

  • @gratex and If you try to destroy him to save THEM, they'll destroy YOU to save him.

  • I am not my ego but my ego thinks it is me.

It is a sentient presence, it thinks, schemes and plots.

Religion calls it original sin, its our animal base from the past and must be transcended. If it becomes a problem it must be cut down to size.

It can be very resistant to change , its extremely adaptive , cunning even,

Extreme cases of egoism are psychoelastic , very difficult to treat and fatal.

Killing the ego isn't possible, our instincts dwell there.

But ego reduction is always good.

  • Isn't killing your egoism a bit egotistic?

  • @eotto2001 When you put it like that it is. By killing something, you're insinuating that this something exists.

However, if the ego never was in the first place...

  • @the80ees No, I think all of it is pretty silly to even worry about it, but I talk to well meaning people and spiritual teachers who are like Elmer Fudd hunting for the silly ego because it is just damned hard to find. As much as I like Buddhism, I kind of have to go along with Freud and Erikson on the ego, however. You can't find it but it doesn't mean that it isn't there. People who don't have "healthy" egos don't fare well in this world. Thank for the reply.

  • @eotto2001 Thanks for a civil reply, somewhat hard to come by on youtube these days.

I think we're both on the same path. I retract my previous comment, I do think there is such thing as ego, certainly. My difficulty now is how to be able to transcend it. You talk about a healthy ego, and I do think that is a good starting point; for how can one learn to accept when they don't accept themselves.

  • @the80ees My way which is not the only way is to just acknowledge it without a lot of fanfare. The more you resist it the more energy it has. It does things like reminds you to pay the gas bill and drive on the right side of the road in the US and Canada. Being a war with it or trying to banishing it isn't a good idea.

  • @the80ees See if you can locate a copy of January 2011 SHAMBHAL SUN and look up the article by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche called LOVE & EMPTINESS page 21. He seems to get it and it is worth the read. If you can't locate it, let me know and can send a PDF.

  • @eotto2001 no its not

  • Comment removed

  • @eotto2001 well to be honest you are completely right! if you think your ego is an enemy then thats just another ego trap ,you project a new enemy and then you think you're ok, but the one that projects enemies is the ego lol

  • @eotto2001 ................ gtfo materialist

  • @magicalhearingman Hmmm!!! Make peace, not war... or something like that.

  • @eotto2001 lmfao................................

  • @magicalhearingman Is that your ego speaking?

  • I don't mind to sound snobby or rude, but did anyone else while watching this video have the feeling that this guy was way into himself.. The Leather armchair in a vast infinity of white, the cheesy special effects that imitate supernatural powers. I could almost here him thinking to himself: God, I'm good. There's a double meaning to that one too :)

  • @jnickel78905 hear*

  • The old shaman named Don Juan Matis calles the EGO a "Foreign Installation" Check out the book Active Side of Infinity by Carlos Castaneda. Don Juan thought the EGO could be knocked off, I do to. The video, "The Box" tells more.

  • @101thehunter Just got that book. That idea makes sense.

  • you cant get rid of your ego... yu can only control it.

  • wtf keeep jesus out of this its irrelevant, he is irrelevant

  • @whydoineedmoney

How is Jesus irrelevant to a discussion of the ego?

  • @donsteigerwald because a discussion of the ego is all about you, no room for jesus he can show up when u discuss Christianity

  • @donsteigerwald Please indulge me as I try to put your ideas into plain talk.

The original sin is part of our human makeup, our animal base which struggles for control. God comes into a mind when self is cleared out of the way of Truth.

And God is the only power that can overcome ego, because its an inside job,.

Only God can bring sanity when ego takes hold, getting rid of self is impossible without God's help. But if we draw near(surrender) He reveals Himself(within) and sanity is restored.

  • @jonesgerard

Mr. Jones: Thank you for your input. Let me restate what I said, only in a more 'plain talk' as you descibed it, way.

God created a man, Adam, from whom He made a woman, Eve. From these two people all mankind has come. These two people chose to not trust God and to instead trust someone else (Lucifer, Satan, the father of lies). Because they made this choice, all of their offspring (us) are born separated from God, spiritually dead,

But God foreknew and fore ordained a Way....

  • @jonesgerard

Mr. Jones....Before He created man, God perdetermined that He Himself would become flesh and blood and live amoung mankind and then pay the price for their choice. That price was His own death as a man. By His death, He provided a Way for all people to come back into fellowship with Him, the Perfect One. By paying for that first wrong choice and all of the subsequent wrong choices, He provided a way for mankind to again be born of His Spirit. So by making this way......

  • @jonesgerard .....He provided mankind the option to choose Him. To choose Him is to choose life. It is to choose freedom from the tyranny of our wrong choices. The Bible calls those choices sin. In the greek it literally means to 'miss the mark', as in shooting an arrow at a target. When we refuse to beleive, that is, to accept Jesus' death as payment enough for our sins, we remain dead, spiritually separated from God and that BY OUR OWN choice! Yikes! Why do that? We can know God, today! Jesus.

  • @jonesgerard .....made the Way. In fact He IS the Way! Jesus prayed for us. You can read it in John chapter 17. In verse 3 He gave the very definition of what eternal life is.

He said "and this is eternal life, to know thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent".

Of course that's what eternal life is! God is life! He is the source of all life, He is the Creator of all! To NOT know Him is spiritual death. But we don't have to stay that way. We can recieve His free gift!

  • @jonesgerard ....to finally adress the ego: not an issue. It's who we are. We don't need to lose who we are, but we do need to be born again. If we remain as we are, we remain dead in our sins/wrong choices. We remain blind and dead! Jesus said "I come to give you life and that more abundantly"! Abundant life is to know God, it is truly awesome to know Him. I so wish everyone would recieve His free gift. It (He) is truly wonderful. Blessings to you Mr. Jones! Jesus loves you immensely.

  • @donsteigerwald spiritual death is to not know yourself, to not accept that you enjoy sinning

  • @whydoineedmoney

Do you know the Creator of the Universe? If not, why not?

According to Jesus, to not know Jesus Christ, whom was sent by God and whom in fact was God manifest in the flesh; the ONLY begotten of God, ever, is Spiritual Death.

Notice He doesn't consider 'knowing one's self', because He knows the heart of every man and everyman enjoys sinning.

Admitting that, I would agree, is the beginning of recieving eternal life. For once you admit this truth, you can repent.

  • @donsteigerwald dude can you seriously cut the crap i dont give a shit what you say jesus or god wants, ive got a bible i could read that shit myself i want your opinion dont quote books, and dont try to save my soul thanks

  • @MandaIdz Got it, you want my opinion. This discussion on ego is pointless if you don't know who you are and why you exist. That's why I bring Jesus to it.

If you do not know God, you are spiritually dead and blind and will remain that way until you stand before God at which time you will say "but dude, didn't I work at being a good person?" And He will say to you, 'get from me....I never KNEW you". Knowing God is competley up to you, right now. Once you do, ego (you) takes a second seat.

  • @jonesgerard

You say, "spiritual death is to not kow yourself". I say, if you have not been born from above, you are spiritually dead and no manner of knowing yourself is going to change that. One God can raise the dead. He wants to raise you too. All you have to do is recieve His free gift of eternal life given in His Son Jesus (see my previous posts). Blessings to you.

  • @donsteigerwald My opinion isthat to be spiritually dead is to either be brain dead or physically dead. If the spirit dies, the body goes with it.

I was spiritually asleep all my life, dreaming I was awake but disconnected and stumbling through life.

And theres a world of difference between knowledge of self and "Know thyself".

  • @jonesgerard In my opinion, if you do not know God you are spiritually dead, however, I am willing to concede that 'dead' might be misleading, so I will agree to call it 'asleep' to have some common ground.

Jesus said "I come to give you life". When the creator of the Universe says "I come to give you life" it is automatically implied that we are dead, at least in some way.

Knoweldge of self: self-awareness, to "know thyself' is to search out one's own desires, likes/dislikes, motives, etc.

  • @donsteigerwald Knowledge of self is what I got talking to a shrink, it was limited and without power to uncover the lies that concealed the truth. In short I didn't even know if I was telling the shrink the truth about me and he said so.

But with God's help I came to Know Thyself and found the truth .

The underlying truth was self revealing once the lies I told myself were cleared away.

Being spiritually asleep was just about as good as dead.

  • @donsteigerwald Religion is of no use today, your giving yourself into icons such as Jesus and other Biblical figures. When you understand that there is no such thing as beliefs and they are just that - only beliefs - then you will understand that your ego is phony. However you can never get rid of your ego NEVER, and why would you want to? If you didn't have an ego you wouldn't know who's mouth to put food in, when eating in a restaurant.

  • @markst Thanks for sharing. Religion is the disciplining of ones actions. Jesus is God the Son, manifested in the flesh who did not come to establish a religion. He came to give us new life.

He, being God, knew that we were spiritually dead and blind.

He came to give us spiritual life and sight.

Eternal life is to know God, NOW, always.

The ego is simply part of who you are. I agree, you can't get rid of it and why would you want to?

    You are important to God!

    He loves you very much.

  • @donsteigerwald The religion or idealogy you subscribe to is irrelevent, whether it's Christianity, Hinduism, Hebrew or even Kabalah. These belief systems are only there to ground your ego - if you believe Jesus is only the way then it gives your ego a sense of pride, an illusion of feeling special, which is evidently quite clear. Now if this works for you then carry on - but only a person who is insecure about their beliefs will propagate them to others, as they are not humble.

  • @markst The idea that insecurity is the only basis for someone to 'propagate' their beliefs to others is patently absurd.

If you had knowledge that someone filled a swimming pool with Hydrocloric Acid, would you stand by and do nothing as a bus load of children came running to jump into what they think is fresh clean water? Would saying something be your insecurity? NO.

Jesus said He came to give us life and that to live and die separated from

    Him would be torment.

    Love obligates me to plead

  • @donsteigerwald haha that is got to be the dumbest analogy ever. You people walk around with this stuff in your head like as if it's all fact. How can you be so certain that people will burn in eternal hell just because they don't accept your savior? Also what kind of loving God is so insecure about himself that he has no choice but to let his creation go to eternal hell for not worshiping him? It's certainly not a God I'm willing to worship. In fact you know what your shitty God can suck my

  • @markst **dildo.

  • Its from the book : Anthony de Mello - Awareness

  • She would love me at the cost of her happiness and I would love her at the cost of my happiness, and so you’ve got two unhappy people, but long live love!

the Jesuit church in Milwaukee. He opened each conference with the words: “The test of love is sacrifice, and the gauge of love is unselfishness.” That’s marvelous! I asked her, “Would you want me to love you at the cost of my happiness?” “Yes,” she answered. Isn’t that delightful? Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

  • Lmao the ego. HAHAHAHA YOU CAN'T CAN YOU TAKE YOUR HEART OUT NOOOO THE EGO IS THE HEART OF YOUR VERY SPECIES AND SOUL THE EGO IS AN EGG FOR SUCCESS IN THE ATOMIC WORLD.THE EGO, THINKS IT CAN REMOVE ITSELF, THAN U REPLACE IT, WITH A MORE SENTIVIE THING, CALLED U GUESSED IT! THE EGO!! YOU ARE AN EGO. DONT HIDE OR SUPPRESS IT, GO AFTER YOUR GOALS AND ENJOY YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!!

  • You cant get rid of your ego. Why is that? Because "I" or "You" is ego. Its like a dog trying to bite his own tail. You trying to destroy you. If you destroy you there is still you left one that destroyed you. get it ?

  • if the host would take his ego out of it he would be greatful for the guest's presence and not be concerned wether or not the guest is eating. if the host says his night is gonna suck because the guest didn't give him the satisfaction of eating, then to me that seems egotistical.

  • If my ego completely "died", then how could I know whether I existed or not. I would exist or not exist, but there would be no self-reference to acknowledge it...so then would not all things that I experienced lose their meaning. It would be like entering a dream state, and if you woke up from it, you wouldn't remember anything that happened because your awareness was completely shifted...

  • @TheMrAlwaysRight If you killed your ego you would sit in a chair and starve to death. Our instincts reside in ego too, survival, social, sexual instincts.

TheBIG problem arises when ego gets in complete control, it can't handle it ( its not supposed to). Then it needs reducing, cutting down to size ...but ego don't go down easy. It can be a deadly thing too, but no-one can save their face and their butt, something needs to go. Suicides are all killed by their own ego.

  • @jonesgerard are we talking about the same ego? I mean ego simply as thoughts of self-awareness...without an ego, I would still eat when I felt hungry, I just wouldn't be aware that I was doing the eating, I would just eat and be completely consumed by the thoughts of how it tasted or smelled for example. My instincts are not in my ego...even if I got rid of my ego, I would still feel the emotions of fear or attraction, but I would not have that meta-awareness that causes me to realize I amthere

  • @TheMrAlwaysRight I've experienced an ego out of control in my life so I know the extreme conditions. Your experience is with a normal sized ego.

With an out of control ego the instincts run amock , sexual lust, paranoia for survival etc and addiction. When my ego was cut down to size the symptoms disappeared.

Unfortunately the ego has an astonishing capacity to rebuild itself(survival instinct), whilst it serves a great tool for invention it can also destroy.

  • @jonesgerard I think you are referring to the ego as "an inflated sense of pride in oneself" rather than simply "self-awareness". While you may be right for the ego you are referring to, it doesn't really apply to what I've been trying to describe...

  • @TheMrAlwaysRight And...we cannot be rid of ego, the best anyone can do is keep it in check.

  • @jonesgerard

    Look at the Jiddu Krishnamurti.

  • @jonesgerard

And what about animals and or insects- they too have an ego? whose instincts reside in?

  • @007SeanC it probably depends on sentience, dogs are sentient as are apes and others. Insects, I don't know.

Colonies of sea anemonies repel intruders but they don't have a brain between them.

  • @007SeanC I believe they do. Self awareness is a reflection of the ego. Fight or flight is the EGO's way.

  • I was thinking about this ego stuff and it sends my brain in circles haha.

So what would happen if I was able to enter a state of mind that was completely unaware of my self or my own identity. If my attention became so consumed by experiences of lets say music for example, and I became completely unaware that I was creating music. Then would I not now become the music? Would I ever regain awareness of my self identity as a human being? Without an ego, how could I possibly know if I exist or not

  • @TheMrAlwaysRight Yea man, I was thinking along those same lines...I think that is what we see with alot of the artist that we appretiate the most. They become engulfed in their music so much to the point where it seems that they are alienated from the rest of us "normal people" But I think that when an artist reaches these new heights in music, he/she isn't actually changing so much as to loose their identity, but in a way they are actually just reaching the peek of who they really are.

  • @TheMrAlwaysRight Its Kind of like going on a journey to find yourself through your music. Being lost to ultimately find your way. Ha This stuff trips me out sometimes

  • @maal4860 "Being lost to ultimately find your way."

Not being lost, rather admitting you are lost.

A certain level of humility is essential to getting free from ego.

Spiritual priciples are always a paradox.

Victory over ego can only come by surrender ,admitting we have no power over it.

  • Where have you been hiding? Thank you.

  • By achieving an identical nature to the upper force are we talking about becoming God? or like God?

  • humans beings are the only creatures in this universe (that we know of)

that can measure, or even have a sense of "meaning".

    We invented meaning.

    Without us meaning doesn't exist

(there may be alien lifeforms out there that have a sense of meaning , but we haven't discovered them yet,)

  • everyone is different, we or the society needs people have high ego and depressed people. there is a balance to everything, just like god and the devil. Agian stfu, this vid is too misleading, have a high ego is not a bad thing. you/we are what you/we are!

  • How do we get rid of the ego? Mmmm execute Andrew Cohen

  • what about death and destruction they are evenly a part of this life as much as us receving the good and please dont give me the old " its our choice excuse" because i didnt ask to be born into a chaotic world where people are born and die in the same minute. how can such horrible things be a gift from the higher being/creator. also dose all this ego stuff apply to a mentally retarted person? i dont think they have the capacity to understand anger and y they feel it. it comes naturally in all

  • You can stress it away, don't mind the hallucinations. You "spiritual" people are selfless hoping to be good. They kept me like this for years, and I was just being used. Emotions in today's world are bad. Think of the interaction from the other's p.o.v.

  • livenowdoing-Man your a genius.

  • I know a lot bankers that are so thrilled to give away money then during a default of repayment recoup it from everyone else in a neat little derivatives short sell that forces everyone to pay them back , they are to big to fail. I love that the banking mentality has so much trust in man, credit mans trust in man, except you must bet and invest in failure so you can profit with out risk. New York bankers mentality values being expressed here.

  • Sweet!!!!

  • the reality is you cannot get rid of your ego, but can only suppress it by understanding your insecurities. and you can never get rid of you insecurities either - only mask/cover them which of course means you are not being truly honest with yourself and letting your ego control you. the opposite to suppressing it.

  • It's important to remain realistic--especially in thinking about such abstract concepts as the ego. EVERYONE must remember that without desire, I would not wish for others to be happy. Without desire, I would not wish to reduce suffering. MOST IMPORTANTLY, the underlying motivation to eliminate one's ego IS happiness--a arguably selfish desire.

  • This is good, I think I've learnt from this. Thank you!

  • 2) I just got up and went into the kitchen for the purpose of pouring a drink for myself, I came back into my room to relax, then I drank from the glass to satisfy my thirst and I wrote this comment to prove a point. Again a human being can not escape his own ego.

p.s. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Kabbalah a Jewish theological term?

  • A human being can not escape its own ego.

If I help a homeless person by helping him is a selfish act.

  • @bananabread119 Do explain, I am greatly interested.

  • @AutomHatter

Again a human being cannot escape his own ego, meaning he cannot escape serving his own desires and selfish needs. If I where to help out a homeless person then there has to already exist a motivation or desire to do set action. This becomes a selfish act because I am mearly fulfilling my own desires by doing so, and there is no clear distinction of this, including having sex to fulfill my selfish desires. Therefor it is harshly criticized that altruistic acts do not exist.

  • @bananabread119 That is true. Giving a homeless man food because it makes me feel good is not an altruistic act because it is not selfless (it made me feel good--a possible motivation). However, selflessness is not so hard to imagine. I'm sure an atheist has existed that saved another's life by sacrificing his own without regard for his bolstered reputation or any other reimbursements.

  • @bananabread119 What about for instance when a mother gives her life to save her child? yes it will make her feel better that the child will be saved at her cost but I don't think the motivation behind that would be to make her feel better. It would be to make sure the child is safe.

  • @AutomHatter well, it depends, I would run into the street for a kid, but I'm not sure I'd not kill it if it was going to kill me. People have the odd quality of being capable of strong delusion, and they'll sacrifice themselves for another, thinking that's survival. It is sometimes.

  • @returnoftheramble3 So you think that the sacrificing of yourself to save another is a delusion?

  • @AutomHatter yes, I have sacrificed myself many times. It is a delusion. The whole reason they chose you was because they didn't value you, and afterwards, they still won't value you. You did it because you wanted to; you have an odd desire to make someone happy who doesn't care about you. I dont think I'm going to die when I run into the street, if I do, it was an accident, not a sacrifice.

  • @returnoftheramble3 So what kind of scenario are you referring to in that last post exactly? It sounds like you don't have very good friends and/or family. But maybe you live the hard life.

Ya, If you run into the street and get hit of course that would be an accident. But if you shoved a child out of the way to save them and got killed by it that would be a sacrifice right? And I don't believe you would be doing it for your ego. At least I wouldn't...

  • @AutomHatter no, you'll just do it by instinct. My sister was the epitome of the damsel in distress, and I have run out into the street for her. I didn't feel good afterwards, and I didn't do it for me or because it was the right thing. I did it bc there was a strong emotional feeling. Afterwards, she was nice to me awhile. It didn't last. All the sacrifices I've made to be good were for another, not me, and they were pointless. It needs to be symbiotic if it isn't temporary.

  • I propose that it is not necessary to make one's intention of receiving to be for the benefit of someone other than the receiver. If receiving for one's on benefit/pleasure is egoism, then it would mean that one getting something out of the intent of the well being of another would have to be ego. e.g. I "get" pleasure by receiving for another's well-being. I suggest: receive with intent of receiving.

  • And everytime he had tried to destroy it it had become stronger. So he uses the "water form" in martial arts to allow it to not hurt him but at the same time not commit violence against it. Then realizing he needed that part of him just like the good on order to have balance, he accepted the reality and the battle ceased to exist. Amazing story and I am quite sure much was taken from Kabalah since he mentions it to Joe at the end.
