In 320 ad rome was already in full decline. The city reached it's peak prosperity was about 200 years earlier. They chose to make it in 320 ad because it had accumulated all it's greatest architectural marvels by that point (which is a sign of decline since it means lack of further building).
@NightElfHunterAlf Bocouse the one who will try to do that must recreate the society that was there, which icludes slavery, restrictid civil rights,no human rights and constant warfare. Its fine with me, i see the romans prosper under such influence, but i thing some people would have a problems with. Would not like. And on the second thought dont recreate 320AD, it would be better in 160 AD, with minimal scourge of christianity.
Fascinating, thanks. It all looks so nice to us. What can't be reproduced is the smell, the noise, the filth, the crowding. Ancient Rome was a torment to most of the people who lived there.
Awesome work guys. I'm an ex 3-D Animator and rabid fan of Ancient Rome. I'm going there for my honeymoon in October and your animation is perfect for this history geek to get his bearings.
Please keep the project going!!! I'm going to blog about this soon. If you need contributions to keep it going, I'll blog about that too.
Ah, Rome. The greatest city in the world. I would give anything to wander through the streets of Rome on a nice summer day in AD 320. All these great monumental buildings of antiquity are lost forever, what a shame.
Amazing. For someone who visit Rome 3 months ago for 4 days and visited many of those sites, it's nice to get a better idea of how they used to look. Especially the Roman Forum and Temple of Venus.
Rome is my favorite city in the world and I would give most anything to visit it in the year 320. This video is awesome and I can't even begin to imagine all the work that has gone into it so far. One critique though: Please change the music for something a bit more lively!
Please contact me about downloading. --Prof. Bernard Frischer, Project Director, Rome Reborn. E-mail: frischer@virginia.edu

The music on the video is "Long Past Gone" by Jamie Sieber. It was licensed from Magntune.

And now you discover that the clean, proper city you saw on images and Hollywood movies was actually some kind of Ankh-Morpork.
