Maybe he was excited about Mike's increased role in the band and what he was bringing to the table during the highly celebrated Fall '97 tour. Maybe he never anticipated that 13 years later there would be a global server farm hosting millions of amateur videos free of charge and that he would owe it to all of us to frame better shots.
this rocks for sure, but anyone calling this the "best weekapaug ever" really needs to go listen to new years 95 like right now and tell me with a straight face that isnt maybe the greatest phish jam ever let alone best weekapaug of all time
I've listened nye 95, plenty of times. Favorite reba and probably favorite overall show but this Weekapaug tears it up to me. Massive funk, really clean riffs, just super tight overall.

Yah - At Philly they had to slow it down half way through; Trey made a joke about it but the Paug's are not all out like they used to be. The Philly one in '09 opens on fire and Mike is just pounding but they had to slow it down at a break.

@mutoneon weekapaug had slowed down for years anyway....by 2000 it was getting funky and slow. it's the song evolving - if they wanted to make it rip; they will. They are musicians, not athletes.

If you don't think Trey and Fish weren't having a laugh at their own condition, you completely missed what was going on in that performance. Trey "ends" the jam after like 4 bars because at that tempo it already has he and Fish overwhelmed. And yeah, they evolve their sound over the years, and it has everything to do with how they feel. If the trend is slowing down, it's not by accident.
what a great weekapaug i didnt go to this show but went to hampton and winston salem a week later ,and did the whole summer tour in 97 ,what a fun time in phistory they were jammin so hard , cow funk .fall 97 was some of the best jamming ive heard phish do . im going to my 114th show tomorrow at merriweather,and cant believe how excited i still get the days leading up to the fun, great post,great weekapaug ive watched it multiple times,thanks
